I feel like it was missing something without that. Not that it wasn't a great cast - so fun to see that group together, esp. John Oliver - very unexpected.
Rachel Dratch is a treasure and I miss seeing her every week on SNL. Almost no person is as inately funny. I feel like her voice and facial expressions were designed in a government lab to disarm and incapacitate via weaponized mirth. Just her fully standing next to a seated John Oliver and still being barely at eye level is somehow funnier, to me, than it should be.
Saoirse-Monica Jackson of Derry Girls is probably as innately funny. She could have worked full-time on being just lovely and succeeded, but she instead worked at turning her face into silly putty. But, wouldn't the best be to have Dratch and Jackson in the same sketch, film or show?

@@Jivolt Irish, as they would point out (it's set in the time of the troubles), but yes, if you love British humor you'll almost certainly love it. The troubles add an important element but are not at all the focus of the show. I have had friends who needed to watch with CC until they got used to the accents. Also, though you'll be tempted to start with Liam Neeson's appearance several episodes in, it's worth waiting for to fully enjoy the context.
Thank god for the triumphant return of Second Chance Theatre. Please please please do more of these. Do an entire show of them. I love it. In addition, do another segment called Last Chance Theatre. For all the sketches that bombed at table read or were even just terrible ideas out of the gate. PLEASE
Gabe Kaplan has an identical twin brother who was a Doctor for a friend of mine. He prescribed medical cards for people in Montana. In his office he had a photo of his brother Gabe and would always mention that his brother was on Welcome Back Kotter.
The commentary at the end is some of the most insightful information I've ever heard about SNL and sketch comedy. Young comedians need to hear about the many failures that are made in the process of creating great entertainment!
not just comedians, everyone growing up. because no matter what life you lead, you will encounter failures but that doesn't mean it's the end. and if you listen to UK comedians pretty much everyone tells a story how they failed at Edinburgh Fringe, it's like a rite of passage.
Frank, is the best character in this sketch to me. I hate that they expect men, to not be a man and threaten a little violence towards obnoxious individuals. Will, plaid it well. I should look up his real name of Frank, but he is perfect for the part. The conversation afterwards, yeah birds are amazing and appreciating them, doesn't mean you need to kill and eat them. It's toxic to kill, I am up for a good fight, but I don't want to take a life. It's just sad that they keep expecting guys to bottle it up until they go to war or go insane. Then they label them toxic. Maybe toxic is forcing people to be something they are not. Intelligent conversation sure, but at the end of the day. I might need to throw down a little bit. I will take you to the hospital and buy you dinner afterwards, no hard feelings. Plenty of ladies I'm sure have the same sentiments. I get it, being socially awkward is a good reason not to bring a person around when dealing with a client in a business. My social awkwardness should be clear with the above. But I'm done apologizing for my existence.

As a young person, the message to not give up, and that there are second chances in life, was really inspiring to me. Okay, I'm not young, but old people need encouragement too!

I haven't even watched this yet, but seeing Bowen Yang's face made me happy for him. Don't you think he's beside himself with awe and excitement, working with these legends? So cool. Now, I'll go watch the vid :)

I think it's hilarious, but the audience would have to know the history of that place to get the joke. If it was a cruising ground in the 70's and 80's, you'd have to be 50+ and from the area to know that.

The greatest Welcome Back spoof was their take on Pulp Fiction. They recreate the scene when Marvin gets shot, starring Vinnie Barbarino as Vince Vega, Freddy 'Boom Boom" Washington as Jules, and Arnold Horshack as Marvin.
I never realized how much I needed Second Chance Theatre in my life. Maybe next time with McKinnon or Strong? I'd love to see what of theirs never made it.

I understand how incredibly frustrating the negative commentary can be. It's ridiculous how petty people can be, as evident by our current political climate. Also, who's going to a late-night talk show for accurate information?! Anyway, thank you for what you do. I'll continue to watch you and tell myself how much I love you. And I love the end when you act like you're the end card or whatever then look straight at the camera. It's legitimately funny. Have a good one, sir. Thank you for your comedy.
Cool it. Seth does not do well in the warm embrace of an appreciative audience. Like a fine wine grape, he must suffer on the rocky hillsides of self-doubt, drawing whatever humor he can find with his long gnarled roots and...it appears I have taken this metaphor too far. But the point is hopefully taken. Seth needs and deeply desires constant Corrections.
The Canadian version of this sketch would be Bruno Gerussi. Keep the same costume. You’d only have to change the name and use The Beachcombers theme at the end.

Bobby Hegyes did a guest spot with QT during his SNL appearance in a Spade sketch spoofing This Is Your Life. He got resounding applause upon his entrance.
Really appreciate this as someone who is starting up in the city doing comedy. Been to a taping of the show & got to talk to Seth briefly, much love to the team, great niche bit, my father loved welcome back Kotter & got it on dvd for me to watch as a kid.

I feel like these really show how some sketches were just ahead of their time. Or maybe we're just so familiar with Will's ability to be an incredulous unhinged everyman that we're primed to enjoy it. Either way this sketch is great and I love Seth for giving these things a second life.

Just woke my roommate up because I was laughing so hard, ran it back from the start, now we're pretty sure we've both awakened the neighbors.

I feel like these really show how some sketches were just ahead of their time. Or maybe we're just so familiar with Will's ability to be an incredulous unhinged everyman that we're primed to enjoy it. Either way this sketch is great and I love Seth for giving these things a second life.
This was like the time when I was a kid and won a kickball in a Kellogg's cereal 2nd chance sweepstakes and then got kicked in the nuts with it.
It was hysterical. Such a breathe of fresh air to have some silence.
