Rachel Dratch is a treasure and I miss seeing her every week on SNL. Almost no person is as inately funny. I feel like her voice and facial expressions were designed in a government lab to disarm and incapacitate via weaponized mirth. Just her fully standing next to a seated John Oliver and still being barely at eye level is somehow funnier, to me, than it should be.

    • @TheAureliac
      @TheAureliac 5 месяцев назад +5

Saoirse-Monica Jackson of Derry Girls is probably as innately funny. She could have worked full-time on being just lovely and succeeded, but she instead worked at turning her face into silly putty. But, wouldn't the best be to have Dratch and Jackson in the same sketch, film or show?

The troubles add an important element but are not at all the focus of the show. I have had friends who needed to watch with CC until they got used to the accents. Also, though you'll be tempted to start with Liam Neeson's appearance several episodes in, it's worth waiting for to fully enjoy the context.

The commentary at the end is some of the most insightful information I've ever heard about SNL and sketch comedy. Young comedians need to hear about the many failures that are made in the process of creating great entertainment!

not just comedians, everyone growing up. because no matter what life you lead, you will encounter failures but that doesn't mean it's the end. and if you listen to UK comedians pretty much everyone tells a story how they failed at Edinburgh Fringe, it's like a rite of passage.

    • @Tabaruq4Chokora

Frank, is the best character in this sketch to me.
I hate that they expect men, to not be a man and threaten a little violence towards obnoxious individuals.
      Will, plaid it well.
I should look up his real name of Frank, but he is perfect for the part.
The conversation afterwards, yeah birds are amazing and appreciating them, doesn't mean you need to kill and eat them.
It's toxic to kill, I am up for a good fight, but I don't want to take a life.
It's just sad that they keep expecting guys to bottle it up until they go to war or go insane.
      Then they label them toxic.
Maybe toxic is forcing people to be something they are not.
Intelligent conversation sure, but at the end of the day.
I might need to throw down a little bit.
I will take you to the hospital and buy you dinner afterwards, no hard feelings.
Plenty of ladies I'm sure have the same sentiments.
I get it, being socially awkward is a good reason not to bring a person around when dealing with a client in a business.
My social awkwardness should be clear with the above.
But I'm done apologizing for my existence.

Also, who's going to a late-night talk show for accurate information?! Anyway, thank you for what you do. I'll continue to watch you and tell myself how much I love you. The Canadian version of this sketch would be Bruno Gerussi. Keep the same costume. You’d only have to change the name and use The Beachcombers theme at the end.

Thanks. Very glad to see Second Chance Theatre again. I wish we could see the original sketch too. So nice to get more Rachel Dratch - after all the times she would show up on John Oliver and her various Seth appearances it feels natural she just wandered in when he was on here too. This sketch wasn't too bad, really, although I think the lower-key feeling probably helped. I'm not surprised it bombed on SNL. I kept wondering if Gabe Kaplan would show up at the end.

Ferrell playing Trebek (now dead), should be led into a dark room by some guide, before the 'Jeopardy' theme kicks in and the lights turn on. Now Trebek is fated to host 'Celebrity Jeopardy' in some afterlife, with Sean Connery (now dead) and two other dead celebrities (like Brando and Joan Rivers) his guests.
