WHAT A GREAT LESSON BROTHER!!! I love playing all genre's of basslines. Traditionally OF COURSE I'm a rock n roll guy but these days I'm dabbling in country, funk, AND NOW GOSPEL. STRAIGHT ....CLEAR...EASY TO UNDERSTAND TEACHINGS MAN. You are a great teacher.
Bro, I really appreciate you sharing this and educating us on more traditional gospel bass..see the thing is, I congregate at a Hispanic Apostolic church, and many times they throw in these types of songs that I wasn't too familiar with because I was only taught the very basic chromatic walk on the bass. And of course, now and day they play more newer generation music. This really helps me; thank you 🙏🏻🙏🏻
In 1977 I attended a special Sunday evening service at the 3rd Baptist Church in Frisco USA that was recommended not to miss by a dj on a gospel music fm station in Oakland and there was choirs from 3 churches there and a visiting pastor from New Orleans. And all them beautiful people! what a night
1:48... Great work! I stand corrected, but I think you might have got it backwards there. It was Gospel music that influenced Jazz (Blues) not the other way around. I think scholars like Wynton Marsalis support this account too. Once again, great work, maestro!
Wow! This is a great lesson I don’t play in a gospel church but I’ve always been impressed by gospel musicians especially the bass This has helped me locked down the knowledge I have acquired by ear and trial and combined with what you’ve taught in this video I feel like I really get it now Thank you
Man I sure wish someone would do a video on the vocal bass/baritone line in traditional old gospel songs like Amazing Grace, I'll Fly Away, In The Garden. I have sang in a choir before but only way I can sing bass or baritone is to follow person beside me. And when I have sang in special music in quartet in small church I usually got a practice tape with just my part, so that helped. So take top 10, 15, or 20 most popular old timey gospel songs and play the bass/baritone line.
Wow you’re an amazing Teacher, I don’t think I’ve seen anyone on RUclips or anywhere else that makes the theory or techniques so understandable. You have gift brother Thank you for sharing it. 🙏🏼
Lovin' what you're layin' down man. I was always into gospel but was only ever intimidated when I heard Gooch play. But, that's understandable, amirite? Take care.
Travis, I would be willing pay you if you would be willing to type the Chromatic walks on top of the lyrics, and include tabs? I've wanted to learn to play this song for a long time. Your instruction is very clear, but just a little fast for me.
Travis, thank you, this is just the thing I need to know, but it's a struggle, the way the sequence is spread across the bars. I'd like very much to see the bass line measure by measure, especially at chord changes and the turn around, from you or anyone. Again, thanks. Tom
Hi sir! I love your bass lessons, it helps me improve my bass playing though im learning/practicing using my guitar😇😅 hoping and praying for another bass giveaway (hoping for a chance to win the giveaway) so I can practice effectively and jam with my co-worship team 🙏

please explain to me how to understand the numbers? i can't understand letters like 1 3 5 in A string and 7 in E string ?im familiar in only in letter chords only. thank you appreciated
The numbers he's using are in reference to the Bb scale (Bb-C-D-Eb-F-G-A-Bb). So when he says a number, it's corresponding to what order that note is on the scale (example: 1-3-5 is Bb-D-F because those are the 1st-3rd-and 5th notes in the scale). When he mentions playing on a certain string, he wants you to play that note where it's found on that particular string. Hope this helps 👍
Travis, Being as white as the driven snow, I have NEVER played black gospel (except when, in our Southern Gospel Group, we ventured into a black gospel number every once in awhile. My question is about guitar/amp setup. I have a Fender Ultra Jazz Bass playing through a Hartke KB15 Kickback Amp. How do I set each for the best black gospel sound? Thanks-Don
I can't help but laugh so hard at this because it's so true about simple Southern Gospel Bass lines. I am one of them and want so bad to escape it..😂😂😂😂. I'm slowly learning. Thanks for the video.
I googled how to write gospel basslines and your tutorial pop upped only. So if goggle thinks highly of you I'm going to honestly give your content a try and see if I get that coveted gospel sound at will.
What you doing is persevering what was passed down to us to another generation! Thanks for pouring into the culture sir!!!!!
Amen! 🙏🙏🙏💝

Gospel/negro spirituals paved the way for other black music genres like blues, jazz, bebop, skat, country, rock, rnb, etc.
That's Right.
That is so true and right.

Hi Travis, I'm a patreon member but can't find the link or loops anywhere. Can you help me out please?

Hey travis can you slap bass without a pedal or it can come out without having one??
I can't help but laugh so hard at this because it's so true about simple Southern Gospel Bass lines. I am one of them and want so bad to escape it..😂😂😂😂. I'm slowly learning. Thanks for the video.
African Americans GOSPEL, JAZZ and BLUES made Gospel music that's where it came from!!!!!
Can anyone tell me how to find the patron loops for this video?
Hello I have a question, what kind of bass do you have?
This is superb. I'm a white bass player and I'm going to learn this stuff.
what are the numbers hes talking abt in level 2
Can you redo this video, go over that 736 part and slow it down
In the key of Bb, 7 is A, 3 is D, 6 is G
i wish your bass were a little louder than your voice in this video. other than that, this is useful!
Love you Brother, unless I am mistaken, but I believe the Jazz players got the whole Jazz thing from Gospel.
Jazz players were largely gospel musicians that didn’t wanna keep playing the old and repetitive gospel music all the time.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Great video! Silly question but what strings are you using?
pretty sure he uses the fat beams
Bout to be on church bass fighting for my life
what was the name of that foot pedal for bass guitar, u tube video..the one that slows it down and loops ?
I told you !!!
What pickups are in your bass?
I googled how to write gospel basslines and your tutorial pop upped only. So if goggle thinks highly of you I'm going to honestly give your content a try and see if I get that coveted gospel sound at will.
So did you?
Hey
African American Musician in the South Created the BLACK COUNTRY BLUES, African Country Gospel Music. BLUES music Came before Jazz a little History.
African American is the inventors of BLUES, JAZZ, GOSPEL, RAGTIME, ROCK AND ROLL, SOUL AND SO MANY MORE STLES OF MUSIC.
Blues came before it all, jazz just ripped off gospel for the most part. I personally love big band music but I despise bepop.
@@SrChalice I see your out look.
Okay!
@@SrChaliceSpiritual gospel music preceded the Blues
Quick question: why did you make those notes Dom7 is that something Gospel uses because I thought those should be Maj7
He explains that around minute12:30. Quick answer: Gospel is in Blues like Blues is in Gospel.
