Happy freaking Friday! What vehicle should replace Jade? Should I replace Jade? is that a real question? What do you think? do you think? do you care? are you still reading this? am i still typing this? why am i still typing this? banana pancakes!!!
iamjake I say do whatever you want. Perhaps if you had something more reliable you could focus more on the adventure and less on is Jade going to make it. I know I get anxiety when my car is not very reliable. Enjoy those pancakes buddy.
a pickup truck of your choice with a sleeping platform and camper shell I fell like it would be more practical, i love my first gen tundra reliable and tons of space and she wheels pretty good
Just remember man jade will always be awesome but we are here to watch your journey not just your Jeep you and your travels are what captivates your audience
Jeep TJ in my opinion are awesome. You could even. Go for a LJ if you want more room in back but still want the 2 doors. Also recommend a roof rack tent
I love the attitude. And Kenzie is a keeper. You know that whatever you decide we will be here waiting to watch and enjoy. Those 2 dog's are living the life. Thanks Jake
There is NOTHING on a CJ that cannot be replaced. Back before the internet, I had a similiar problem with my CJ7, and I sold it. I never should have, as the next Jeep (YJ) cost me more than the fix would have been. I was just sick and tired of problems, but I should have had patients and spent less fixing rather than buying another. Now, thanks to the internet, any part can be found. It's good mechanics that are getting harder to find.
Love the journey, love the energy, love the channel. Just a thought on this video: We anthropomorphize our vehicles and it feels good, but there is a time to make changes to meet needs. If you have the means to increase reliability and comfort, I'm wagering that all of those that have helped wrench on Jade would understand and support you (jump in one way or the other wrenchers) and I'm also wagering that Jade would find a loving home based on your contacts. Just thought. Travel safe, Jake.
I see breakdowns and 'obstacles' (what could go wrong) as a dynamic addition to your journey. Conquering them builds character and adds to the storyline. Just my 2 cents.
It broke my heart when my CJ-7 died, I had the beast for 17.5 years....2 engines, 3 transmissions, 4 clutches, 1 rear axle, 1 new frame, 2 rewiring harnesses, 2 floor pans, 1 roll bar, 2 Daylighters with windshield brackets, hard top, soft top & a classic bikini top, 2 new fenders....I could go on forever with the replacement parts I paid for the beast....I spent enough to buy a brand new Jeep....I truly miss my old CJ but I now have a truck that starts every time & has a working fuel gauge......lol
Hey Brother, I'm the guy who sent you the "mil spec" water jug way back when, that I'm SUPER pleased to see that you're still using (p.s. to prove it I know it was sent to you from Jacksonville, NC....not that you would remember that though..lol). I am re-attempting my Appalachian Trail thru hike starting on Feb. 27 and I'll be recording it on my channel "Team 2E Tales" under the playlist of "Livin' La Vida Hobo". I was hoping maybe you could maybe just throw out a mention my way, I would greatly appreciate it. Take care and be safe!
I love that you're keeping Jade. You're like me, you feel for the blood, sweat, and tears you put into your vehicle. It becomes a relationship, and you just don't throw those away :)
If you want to keep Jade, have you thought about getting a small teardrop trailer? You'll have ready made sleeping and cooking arrangements and Jade can live on! I pull one with my TJ and it's great.
Bro, jake, I’ve been watching you since 14k subs. I honestly think you needs 4 door wrangler ( who cares what year) think about all the space you’ll have. It’ll be amazing I wrote this before watching, But Jake, I totally understand you gotta do what you gotta do
Hey Jake. Remember next time you can drive Jade with no clutch. Put her in 1st low and start her in gear. Once your moving you should be able to rev match the engine and gearbox and get her into a usable gear. Might just get you to a safer place!
I always enjoy your videos and Jade is an important part of your journey. But a journey is about discovery, adventure and from the experiences, change. I honestly believe you should find a good, unmolested Jeep JKU. It will provide you an unlimited number of options for outfitting and because it is a more relevant vehicle in the aftermarket, you might even find some opportunities to demo manufacturers products which will help with the journey. Additionally, parts are abundant and the JKU has proven itself to be very durable and reliable. I owned an 07 and loved it until I bought a new JL this year. If you have the resources, you should upgrade. I think it will even fill you/renew you with new energy for the journey.
I agree with other comments; get a JKU; you need the space now that you've doubled your team. I appreciate your persistence and dedication to keeping Jade running, and breakdowns make for great videos..........However, being stranded on the side of an interstate with a woman and two dogs is just not good; all kinds of bad things can happen; even worse if the weather is bad. Keep Jade in a garage and make her restoration a long-term project. Looking forward to more videos!
I understand being faithful and true to Jade. I've had 6 Jeeps, But you don't want something to go out while doing 60 on 95 with a tractor trailer behind you. Because by the time that TT stops it'll be in front or on top of you.
I think you should look at it as a business opportunity. You need to get a sponsor that sells jeep parts and does jeep repair. Maybe you can get Jade a totally rebuilt for free or maybe another old classic Jeep and document the whole thing on your channel. We all love Jade but I think that it is all about the adventure in any old classic Jeep
As an owner of an 1980 CJ-7 (original owner) and a 2013 JK, you have to finish your 50 state trip in Jade. I have driven both across the country and I don't really remember the JK trips because it is so easy and routine. I recall most of the CJ trips. Memories for a life time.
I know you said you were going to stretch Jade, but don't you have a wagoneer? That would be the perfect rig for your new family of 5 plus you could run a permanent sleeping platform. I really love Jade, I hate to see her cut up but ultimately you gotta do what makes you happy!
I had a slave cylinder go on a vehicle years ago. Couldn't afford to fix it right away so I put a bungee cord around the clutch pedal and around the steering column to pull it back up. Had to rev high then pop the clutch. Worked for a week or so to run errands till I could get it repaired. I still suggest an '05 or '06 Unlimited Rubicon for you. My 5th and favorite Wrangler 😊
This is why I’m such a big fan of your channel and your journey jake, i can completely relate to you being faithful to YOUR jeep, i have a 99 TJ that has taken me from Illinois (where i live) all the way to Colorado and Utah and showed me places I thought id never see. Now its been crippled by so much rust its basically undriveable but I promised myself id never let it go, and seeing you hang on to jade no matter what even with the temptation of things like the new JT gladiator or any of the awesome new 4x4 that are perfect for overlanding you still stick with that YJ
I’ve been watching you since 14k like no lie and coming back and seeing you grow is amazing. Your pride in your videos no matter how many subs you have is something many people can’t do
Awesome video! Look forward to seeing the new mods and sleeping arrangement! I was able to meet up with Jake and his girlfriend at the Florida Jamboree and I can honestly say that both of them are EXTREMELY nice and genuine!! Both are truly wonderful people! Good luck and stay safe!
you both look like you are handling the adversity well. Jade has become way more than just a Jeep to a lot of people . I was hoping the day I finally got to see Jade it would be in the original configuration but it does make sense why you are planning to change it. look forward to see how this plays out!! thanks for bringing us along
@iamjake you should get a 79 SERIES,75 SERIES Toyota or a 76 SERIES Toyota then you have plenty of room to sleep inside and you can modify them a lot. Plus they are great off roaders. Or even maybe a TROOP CARRIER TOYOTA
You should see about a small bugout style camping trailer. Or something similar to the old teardrop campers(the small ones). With a custom stretch you may run into problems finding replacement tops. It’ll probably have to be custom on a yj/cj.
Your an awesome dude Jake, u find light in the hardest situations and always have such a positive attitude💯👍 huge inspiration to myself and I’m sure lots of others, your living the dream my man🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Buy a small camping trailer. It will make your life so much easier. You don’t want to stretch Jade the amount of work you will need to do won’t gain you that much space.
Have you reached out to Jeep for a vehicle? You are doing them a great service in promoting Jeep! Hey Jeep pay attention! Cheaper than one commercial on a network.
Seems to me like going back to the trailer setup might be a good option. I myself would love an off road teardrop styled trailer, or one similar to your previous trailer but I'm sure there are many things about either of those setups that I wouldn't like as well. It's all balance and priorities. I'm only 1 person and a dog so for now my 2nd gen 4Runner is enough space for us since I have a large roof rack for overflow.
Well....either go full bore and see if a new Gladiator is an option. Sounds kinda sell-outie. Or you can get an RV, tow Jade and wheel in the states. I only suggest that, is to keep Jade "on the road", while giving you some comfort and space.
I’m looking forward to the upgrades. Something I’ve been thinking about for my TJ. Given your goal I think this direction makes sense. I lot of folks are suggesting a new reg. Yes reliable may be better, but there is something about the simplicity in the yj that fits your program.
I like Jeeps a lot but if this was my lifestyle I wouldn't cram it into a CJ7. There are apparent reliability issues with Jade. Stretching means you now have an unreliable stretched version of the same. Standard parts you rely on will no longer fit. You need a reliable overland vehicle with the space to fit everything and live comfortably . Lots of options from vans, trucks and SUVs. Jade could even be towed with you for exploring. If Jeep is a must you need a JKUL. Many pull behind or roof top options for living like the Ursa Minor. Good luck with your choice and the adventures ahead.
Jake, why don't you put a hard shell back on with a cut out on the top and a pop up, almost like a pickup camper. you can sleep inside up top, and get thru the inside from the hatch or hole. Just my two dimes. You could make it a flip top tent with support bars over the hood or on the front bumper get enough length.
Aw man. You drove right through our neighborhood (the panhandle). If you are ever in the area, you should definitely stay longer! The emerald coast is gorgeous and has plenty of campsite, food, and sights to keep you busy. Safe travels, Jake
Plot Twist, Jake buys an old Toyota and doesn't have to make any repair videos other than changing the oil every 5000 miles to make the engine last. And names it Eiko meaning prosperity
I would have put it in 1st, cranked it up in gear, and shift without the clutch. Same speed in and out of gears, like they did in the old days. When time to stop pull out to neutral and turn keep off, put in first, crank up to get going again. I only did it shifting up but you can go both ways if you're good. Did this back in 95 when I had my 90 YJ 2.5. Don't change Jade, it has so much character...
Glad you were able to get Jade working again! She's been through a lot of on this journey. Only you know what will work in your situation, and can determine what mods she needs. Know that she'll always be in our hearts, regardless what configuration she might become.
Yo Jake! You were here in Dallas and didn’t say anything bro! Could’ve swung by my house and checked out my LJ for ideas and get a feel. Can’t wait to see a stretched Jade! Safe travels!
Glad to see the shackles holding up. People used to tell me to get rid of my Blazer but I can’t part with it. Vehicles become part of the family. Sometimes they can be frustrating but you always love them. Hope to see you again if you come back to New Hampshire
If it were me I’d get a ext cab, long bed Tacoma with a topper it meets your stealth camping needs in the bed, and there would be plenty of space under your sleeping surface and on the roof. Buy something newer and instead of paying in time and money for parts, in addition you can upgrade it for your off road needs. Keep Jane for local trips.
Stoked to see the stretch as I have a one ton CJ7 build I’m about to do the same thing to. I also have half a CJ tub that I’m going to turn into a camper trailer. God bless!
I love it.. Breaks plastic bleeder.. Well i got good practice.. I was thinling it.. Damn near spat my beer out.. I did turn wrech..always called myself a parts replacer.
Have you ever looked at Tera-flex revolver shackles? Increase articulation of the axles and reduce the strees on the suspension. Have a set on my XJ and love them.
Hey Jake you are an extremely good film maker and I love your style on filming, I would love to see more of the landscapes that you see while traveling through all the states! Keep it up there is no better channel on RUclips!!
I think most of us have come to the point in life when a beloved vehicle has met it's end. When an auto stays in the shop more and more and we're paying more in repairs than on a small monthly car payment it's time to put our car friend out of their and our misery. It reminds me of one "King of the Hill" episode when Hank's truck finally was allowed to pass on to the heavenly junk yard.😥
stretch it LJ length those tops arent hard to fit but very expensive. too bad you rolled past VA probably could have stretched the frame and tub in about 3 Days and fabbed you a couple rear shafts. Oh well you are in TX lots of good shops out that way
You should also see if jeep will sponsor you and hook you up with a brand new JL or something I’m sure this channel has sold many people on the jeep lifestyle
Jake, Have you thought about a used class C Motorhome and flat tow Jade behind you. That will give you a lot more options. You can get some really good used class C.
I own a TJ but you stick with jade! Stretch her and if you are already going for a custom Jeep you probs should get a custom hard too because you won’t find one anywhere else, love the content and keep on jeeping on!
Have you thought about adding a flat tow bar to the front of the Jeep? Can't wait to see what you do with Jade next. I've wanted to stretch my YJ like a bobbed CJ-8.
Keep Jade! Definitely do the stretch. Goes right in with having the Jeep become whatever you need it to be. I know if I ever took my XJ on the road to live in I’d push up the roof for sure. Don’t replace. It’s already come so far and now with the opportunity to put more design into creating a rig that suits your needs, then yes you gotta go for stretch! Super excited!
Hi Jake! I’m enjoying my new to me ‘01 Wrangler :) Also enjoyed a beer with Veronna and Richard in Clatskanie last December, they’re rad! Enjoy the adventure, friend!
one plus of having a soft top jeep - you'll never be stuck because you locked your keys in your car. I've done the head dive through the back so many times.
Jade is an Awesome jeep, she is old, but rock solid!!! Don't give up on her!!! So many people worked on Jade in more ways then one, and this is why you are where you are at, don't give us on Jade,, she just needs work!!! You don't need a new Jeep!!! Make Jade work for what you believe in and what Jade has produced in the past and what she can produce in the future!!!! I am a female racer from the coal hills of Pa and I have placed 4th in my division a 4cylinder 4 runner!!!! I won $20 and a trophy, that I did not expect, but We were a group of 3 girls, who just wanted to race and have a great time!!! I am Jake, go back to your roots!! The Live you are living, is with you and Annie!!! Don't ever forget that!!! Peace out and be safe!!! I hope you respond. Thank you
You'd be so happy with a 4wd pickup truck with a cap on the back you can use as a camper. You shouldn't have any problems getting places vs where the jeep can go, especially considering how much stuff you cram onto racks or a trailer with that jeep. Having an instant camper that's always set up and ready to sleep in would be a game changer. I'm planning on switching my 2008 wrangler I use for photography trips to a pickup and cap camper due to the abundance of parking lot camping vs BLM (even though I always prefer the woods). Plus, being able to sleep where I want to photograph a sunrise would be a huge game changer in terms of not having to get up 2+ hrs before a sunrise.
keep her but getting something newer and more reliable. yes jade is full of surprises and that ads to the adventure but its also a major stress factor i personally would rather my road trip to be as stress free as possible and just travel
Getting stuck in my Jeep is life telling me to slow down and take in whats around me. Can't just fly by all the good stuff all the time. @iamjake Next time the clutch slave goes just put it in 1st gear and you can get the Jeep moving with the starter. Requires a fully charged battery. Not good on the starter but it may help get off a busy highway in traffic.
It depends if you want to keep up with the 'jeep thing'. In my case, after two xjs, i chose a wj. It has more room to sleep in, that's what i do occasionally and i'm very happy with it. But for an every day camper, i don't know
Get the Wrangler TJ Unlimited (also known as an LJ). It's cheaper than buying a new jeep and you get the reliability and look of an older jeep but with the space and suspension of a newer one
Drive her until the wheels fall off. Safe travels.
a pickup truck of your choice with a sleeping platform and camper shell I fell like it would be more practical, i love my first gen tundra reliable and tons of space and she wheels pretty good
iamjake 4x4 sprinter. Banana pancakes!
It kind of pains me to say this being a Tj owner but for what you do with your Jeep a JK would make your life much easier

This journey is about you and this car. Get a full full restauration. Jade is a character.
J10 frame swap and 2 CJ tubs chopped and welded to fit.

Keep Jade, she's your "soul" Jeep 👍
If you stretch her you will change your brake over angles but you can make her a 6x6 gain some room and keep close to the same off road jeep you have

Only option = 2 Door, Manual, JK. Awesome versatile and a true Jeep. A JKU Auto, just wouldn't be the same.
I’ve been watching you since 14k like no lie and coming back and seeing you grow is amazing. Your pride in your videos no matter how many subs you have is something many people can’t do
You r the perfect example of the Jeep life style !!!
You can still drive with out your clutch slave cyl. No tow needed.
I meant it! I’ve been watching since that day! And as for your question for us? Keep Jade! If you don’t, it was great meeting her!
@iamjake you should get a 79 SERIES,75 SERIES Toyota or a 76 SERIES Toyota then you have plenty of room to sleep inside and you can modify them a lot. Plus they are great off roaders. Or even maybe a TROOP CARRIER TOYOTA
You were literally right down the street from me. Got excited about a possible Texas Jade Jamboree. Maybe next time. Happy trails guys...
At 20:45 when you pulled ahead and backed up Jade was leaking something. Nice job fixing it. What a good time!!
What you need is an off road teardrop style trailer with a little more storage and a double bed
Have you reached out to Jeep for a vehicle? You are doing them a great service in promoting Jeep! Hey Jeep pay attention! Cheaper than one commercial on a network.
I think it’s so awesome that you and your girl are doing this. (And that fur babies get to come too ;) )
Seems to me like going back to the trailer setup might be a good option. I myself would love an off road teardrop styled trailer, or one similar to your previous trailer but I'm sure there are many things about either of those setups that I wouldn't like as well. It's all balance and priorities. I'm only 1 person and a dog so for now my 2nd gen 4Runner is enough space for us since I have a large roof rack for overflow.
teardrop camper?. I built a tiny camper out of a 5x8 cargo trailer and its awesome.
You guys will love the stretch! I stretched my Tj 15 inches last year and it by far is the best modification I’ve done. Good luck!
Well....either go full bore and see if a new Gladiator is an option. Sounds kinda sell-outie. Or you can get an RV, tow Jade and wheel in the states. I only suggest that, is to keep Jade "on the road", while giving you some comfort and space.
Dorsk84 that’s definitely too expensive.
@@JosephSamsor for a new RV yes, but there are a ton of older, and if lucky low mileage, ones for sale. Shit.... buy a old bus and convert it.
Land cruiser for sure, 80s series or newer, or a truck with a truck camper
Checkout Runaway campers they are out of Ocala FL. Small affordable campers 4x8 and larger campers.
Yes upgrade! It’d save you so much hassle! But incorporate things like jades paint scheme into the new rig so she’ll always be with you :)
I’m looking forward to the upgrades. Something I’ve been thinking about for my TJ. Given your goal I think this direction makes sense. I lot of folks are suggesting a new reg. Yes reliable may be better, but there is something about the simplicity in the yj that fits your program.

If Jeep is a must you need a JKUL. Many pull behind or roof top options for living like the Ursa Minor. Good luck with your choice and the adventures ahead.
You should honestly do a TED Talk about all your adventures and how you have inspired others to take more adventures
Your girl seems to be a cool patient chick. A few of my ex's would be bitching nonstop about stuff out of your control !
Jake, why don't you put a hard shell back on with a cut out on the top and a pop up, almost like a pickup camper. you can sleep inside up top, and get thru the inside from the hatch or hole. Just my two dimes. You could make it a flip top tent with support bars over the hood or on the front bumper get enough length.
tom Brown exactly 👍

Welcome to Texas!!! Guess just passing through. Was hoping for a meet up!
Man I don’t know if you two are a couple but that girl is perfection in every way.
Chip Mautz haha done that in a 85 f250 before
Glad you were able to get Jade working again!
Safe travels!
you should get a 4runner.
Glad to see the shackles holding up. People used to tell me to get rid of my Blazer but I can’t part with it. Vehicles become part of the family. Sometimes they can be frustrating but you always love them. Hope to see you again if you come back to New Hampshire
Y'all have such a great attitude about everything. Love it. Good role models. Keep it up!
WOW! Fort Pickens is in my backyard! I've lived in Pensacola my whole life. Love the beaches here.
Right on man. Make the best of it. Easy fix. I've never done it and now I know. We all learn and share brother. Have fun and be safe guys. Hi Annie
You two have had a great run, but here's to new adventures in a new rig.
Great straight line “what ever you want it to be “ love it ! Great video!
God bless!
I think the Jeep makes the videos for me honestly. That thing is so cool and I love watching you document your trip in THAT Jeep
Oh well you are in TX lots of good shops out that way
Im new here and love your adventure i pray god to get my health back so i can do that stuff with my kids one day xxxxx
You should also see if jeep will sponsor you and hook you up with a brand new JL or something I’m sure this channel has sold many people on the jeep lifestyle
Kenzi seems rad, dude. Fun smiles from both you you. Enjoy the ride.
Jake, Have you thought about a used class C Motorhome and flat tow Jade behind you. That will give you a lot more options. You can get some really good used class C.
Great idea! Another vehicle to break down and have to be fixed roadside!
you kids have a great positive attitude and thats what it takes to handle life ! Be safe and have fun kids!
Get a jeep TJ. Still an older vehicle with the classic look but they have 4 coils so no more leaf springs which is what seems to break all the time.
Also if you want a little more storage space, get an LJ
Looking forward to the stretch! Glad Jade is back on the road! Keep on Jeeping on!
one plus of having a soft top jeep - you'll never be stuck because you locked your keys in your car.
Texas boys are always quick to help out
keep her but getting something newer and more reliable. yes jade is full of surprises and that ads to the adventure but its also a major stress factor i personally would rather my road trip to be as stress free as possible and just travel
But for an every day camper, i don't know
Of Course!!!
Get the Wrangler TJ Unlimited (also known as an LJ). It's cheaper than buying a new jeep and you get the reliability and look of an older jeep but with the space and suspension of a newer one
Cheaper!? They run for about $20k here in Arizona. That and they are super rare.
@@CodyTheAddictedGamer Yeah. They're hard to find. Costs around 13k in Illinois
