I stand corrected! Boichi did grow up super poor and still found a way to make his dreams come true. Based on the advice it made me think he grew up privileged, but he was drawing on the backs of calendars because he was so poor he had no paper to draw on.

This artist is giving advice from his own personal experience. I would have never been able to do that. When i was younger, getting out of high school I had to get a job and go to school. There is no way that I could have just sat there and done nothing but draw. I do my manga as a hobbyist and if I manage to get to the point where I can sell, then fine. But I have a 9 -5 job and i have to do adult things before I can do manga work. Luckily i have the weekends and 'some' nights to work on my craft.

The comics scene is harsh here in the U.S. Many people have day jobs because the pay is bad. Only top Marvel and DC artists are paid well.
The biggest dream shared by indie comic pros for the longest time was to create a graphic novel, have it picked up by Oni press, IDW, Dark horse, Image, or Top Shelf and pray that a movie exec or streaming company will buy the rights for it. Or get scouted by an animation company and be offer a desk job as a storyboard artist if you are lucky.
This does not happen for everyone, and whatever that company offers you might be crap. No royalties. Your life work is owned by someone else. Not to mention those publishers I listed aren't doing too well or gone under.
The other option is to go through scholastic and have your children's comic be placed in school libraries. It is hard to do, and I doubt you'll keep the rights for your work.
With the self-publishing route, you will need to slowly build an audience and market your stuff. Again, it's hard to do. Keep your day job or learn French and move there. Many great animators and artists here in the U.S. had a previous profession or toiled as a broke gig worker before they hit it big.

Adding to your comment on the cosmos, not that we have a Saturn return BUT the concept of Saturn and Jupiter play themselves out in real life archetypes.
The concept of Saturn is the pressure of contraction and boundaries . You can sit back, give up and do nothing or lean into the pressure and build something. Jupiter comes after to enlarge and open things out, revealing the fruits of your labor or lack there of.
Did you build something you can stand on or are you left to rot in entropy and chaos.

For any of y’all who think Boichi is privileged or excessively lucky don’t know about his career path. As someone who researched him in the past he quite literally got it out of the mud. This guy was born into one of the most poverty stricken areas and had make 15+ works to even be recognized as an author. Not to mention his living conditions were dog💩 even after childhood. That being said some of the things he proposed in this video are very surprising considering his background. Living with your parents at 25+ making no type of revenue or contribution is not something that would slide in my household or most people’s day and age. Koffee is right about him being optimistic though. Dude even went out of his way to cheer up his viewers in that video after dropping a huge bombshell.

i agree, if your financial situation isn't good, go to school and work on getting up there, the truth is, you're less likely to make it at a young age if you don't have credentials or know people in the industry that can basically give you a good word. it's also true what people say, you won't find what you actually want to do until you are in your mid 30s. if you don't want to work to the bone for it, quit trying. honestly... you'd probably hate working on a deadline, and i know a lot of people out there can't even finish 15-25 pages in 15-days. and trust me you would hate to sell your IP to a company just to have your editor shit on your work and tell you to add more men and women who are fat, POC just for the sake of diversity... its not like diversity is bad but it's kind of annoying to scrap what you had and thought it was cool for the sake of everyone else. Makes working less fun and more like you must just to make ends meet, and that's not how you are supposed to see this job...
nepotism can get you places tho..
i forgot to mention, don't shame for living with your parents, the average rent is 1600-2800, if your helping your parents pay bills with whatever you got, you doing good and TY, the economy is shit. fortunate my mom lives with me and me and my sibling support her financially.

To build your craft you must find the time without becoming a burden to your family and friends. You get breaks at work build on your craft on your breaks. Those days off you build on your craft. If you need to do laundry and other stuff you schedule yourself strictly. There's no other way.

I want your take on Hunter x Hunter and Togashi. And you talk pretty big shit like you can make me care about your work like Dragon Ball. I don't give Drafgon Ball Dragon Ball being where it was and as big as it was overwhelmed pop culture in such a way I couldn't ignore Dragon Ball in good conscious. It's not like it's a better or motivational work to me than Hunter x Hunter. You sound like demon mode, on always. But that's like breathing to a GOOD hunter. So as a fan, and as someone who already understands you view point. THat's how the world works by the way by force of power. Nothing about current world relations is voluntary other than not wanting mutual destruction. I get what you want Mr. Trapped in the 80's machoism. But you're not Kenshiro and wouldn't survive what happened that led to Fist of the North Star, let alone survive it's wastes. So my question Mr. Presumptious Koffe. Is' whee do you get off talking like a cult leader, but being. creative? Like You sound like what the RWBY Creative war was about. Someone who just got sick of the mundane then went rogue like Randall Savage and Lex are in Young Justice. What Darkside are you so afraid of that'd you'd forgo talking about human lives value in any capacity to tell others. Cause you're just a product of Carpe Diem. You're just a product of wanting a glory that's long since past. You think you REALLY got sauce like Toriyama? Well we see with your first game not your successful run of a Mana. I'm no hunchbakc and I'm not on your side. I;m more of a Koinzell or Gon. Somone who get's pissed off easily and will take it there if you're going to talk like this. Start with your analysis of HxH or someone point me to it. Cause your braking point was Togashi in the 90's in his second series. I'm working on my own Pixel Manga a Remix IP. My boy thinks highly of you but this entire video just made me raise my left eyebrow harder than any character did in any MainFrame animation (Reboot, Shadow Raiders, Beast Machines). Intense, inspiring.....to people who don't know better.
