Honestly, these graphics docks make a lot more sense for handhelds than they do the miniPCs. You get the convenience of playing games on the go, but then you can also come home, plug it in and get better graphics while playing on the big screen!
I agree, I've always treated my rog ally like a nintendo switch and i think that's where it really shines. Getting home and ploping it into an external gpu just makes sense
I have made my Ally X as an all in one PC paired with my 4070Ti Super 16GB on Razer Core X. I dont have to install gaming & productivity software on multiple PC and I can game on the go unlike a gaming laptop. I also have a workstation and laptop setup but my go to now is Ally X.
$999 for the RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB, and $1099 for the 16 GB. That's around $500 just for the slow Thunderbolt enclosure and power. Far better options out there.

At first glance, I thought this literally defeats the purpose of a handheld. Then again, I've encountered couple of forks who claim they actually use their handhelds as their main PC. So it might be viable option for some who doesn't have main desktop PC.
Handhelds are a great mini PCs/second screens. This loses some of the size advantage, but if you travel a lot it makes sense to have a dock at home for your demanding games and just take the handheld on the road. I haven't invested in an EGPU dock yet and not sure if I will, but the Legion Go proved to be an excellent replacement for my PC (even if it's a pretty underwhelming handheld).

They really should have made a version of this that just had the PCI-E slot. Even if it was twice as big, this would have been the upgrade people who had a Razer Chroma dock were looking for.
The onex offers a built in m.2 slot for extra ssd storage. I wonder if they'll offer an ssd expansion card for their mindlink slot considering i'll be using thunderbolt 4
Aren´t you losing some performance by having the internal display enabled? Doesn´t it gives the USB4 link an unnecessary overhead? I remember that for EGPUs, it is advisable to just use the external display, connected to the EGPU. Regards, RC

My use case: get up to 64gb VRAM for LLMs in a way that makes both my phone, my tablet my desktop and my laptop irrelevant. Not wasting any more money on garbage until chinese manufacturers get their light bulbs on.
buy miniforum docking station with oculinc, it is possible and cheaper, but as for me it is the most convenient, and any mini PC in which there are 2 connectors for nvme connectors in one of which we put m2 adapter to oculinc. The card itself and the power supply unit at least every day change. For me this is the best option so far

It's the same thing because they both have the same chip the Z extreme chip so whatever that Ally X is kicking out it'll be the same thing on the legion go

This is really cool and all to see, but it diminishes its purpose as a portable gaming device. Nonetheless I do believe once these devices reaches their obsolescence, this GPU dock would really be useful to extend its lifespan.
I think the only thing missing from Khadas Graphic was a space to insert an SSD, like some docks have. Ok, it could be due to the bus bandwidth, but it would still be a nice feature.

The price is insane for what you are getting. Yes it's small but you can get an entire desktop with a 4060ti for $1100. I like to see a bake off between the Mind Graphics and the ASUS XG mobile 3080.

It's not a big hurdle to take 30 seconds to turn your device off before connecting/disconnecting with Oculink. It just offers much better performance and latency because there's no added protocols past PCIE, and it's simple/affordable for a manufacturer to implement.
Handhelds are cool, but imagine having a tablet with ryzen ai 9 370 hx or new Intel lunar lake with Intel arc v140 igpu. Like minisforum v3 but with better battery and better igpu. You can game, use it for work / school, watch Videos late at night, very portable. I am sure this is the future and not notebooks.
+ turning off the handheld screen (or assign the integrated gpu to it) should result in better performances as the USB connection is dedicated to the eGPU (no need for a video stream back to the handheld)

It's super small so size is great and it's upgradable they are coming with better Nvidia graphics for it before the new year. It's just a little loud and that gives me some anxiety it's only thing I don't like

The aoostar egpu dock is the best option. $200 and get a 4070 ti super and it should run you under $1000

These handhelds need Oculink, it works way better than Thunderbolt when it comes down to GPUs.
Oculink isn't really plug and play. Future handhelds should have TB5.

Try it on your Framework laptop. I think you will have one. I have the old 11th Gen Intel in a case because I updated mine to AMD.
