- I've decided to use my VFX knowledge to take my Kenobi edit to the next level, and among other things I will alter the look of the Fifth Brother.
This was a first testing phase from the last week.
By the votes of majority of faneditors on Reddit, "Look only" version will end up in the final edit.

My god he looks so much more intimidating now, and it’s even way more accurate to boot.
Wong: "Give me that geisha look fam."
Seeing someone describe a depiction of something completely fictional as "accurate" is painful and embarrassing.
@@CrazyHorseInvincible he’s a character who existed in one medium (animation) before being transferred to another. (live action) it’s perfectly rational to consider the degree to which the new design in Kenobi is similar to his original design in Rebels. The changes made in this video or objectively more in line with his original design. I thought that was neat, so I left a comment expressing that notion.
@@rohanthomas4134 "Similar to his original design" credits your intelligence more than "accurate." It acknowledges that we're talking about art rather than a definitive and objective standard of accuracy. It also doesn't give fictional events the same weight as real-life ones.
@@CrazyHorseInvincible But are there not aspects of art that we can apply objective criteria to? Are there not many instances when the word “accurate” is useful when talking about art? A well crafted painting can can portray the accurate dimensions of whatever subject is being depicted. A well researched story containing a historical figure can show an accurate representation of that historical person’s personality and mannerisms. The word “accurate” is useful to communicate a great many things depending how old is used, including when talking about that.
I’m not trying to give fictional events the same weight as real ones and using the word “accurate” does not in itself the denote that. I liked the video, I wanted to compliment the person who made the video. The video maker was clearly attempting to alter the fifth brothers design to be more “accurate” to his animated counterpart, I thought they succeeded, so I called it accurate.
Wow it actually looks like an alien! Nice!
We’ve always had aliens that look nearly human
@@jacktheflash8478 yes but the fifth brother in Kenobi just looks like an Asian whose been painted white.
Soo much better
Can someone explain to me how this is possible? His face is visibly thinner, yet all the visual details behind him are intact. How would software know what is behind a person if it does't have that footage?
The warp is too much
The third one looks like the Rebels character, but honestly even just the one in the middle works great.
I think the middle one is best 👌
Same
Ye
I agree. No need to change the actor’s face shape.
I prefer the 3rd but middle is fine, it just looks more expensive and a better match to the Rebels appearance!
There's always a RUclipsr who does better work than the Hollywood nerds.
this guy's not just a youtuber, he's a professional vfx artist
@@derk8665 One who DID work on the franchise to say the least.
He’s also working on top of what Disney already did
He IS a Hollywood nerd. But he cares.
@@ronniewhitedx I’m sure plenty care they just aren’t in a position to do much about it
Makes you wonder if Disney blew the entire Kenobi budget on cocaine or something.
More like it never had a high budget to begin with
Graft
The middle one is such an improvement.
The 3rd looks the most alien and as such is my preferred design. Awesome job as always.
I agree I want the one that looks more alien. I am sick and tired of everyone always making aliens look and sound too human, we need more creativity, style and diversity. I don't like the one in the middle because it looks too human, the one on the right looks more alien as it should be.
Nice job; I always thought that the original looked like they'd given up halfway through...
I'll never understand why they simply didn't make a new inquisitor if they still weren't going to make him look like the Fifth Brother?
yeah, it served no purpose other than baiting people who watched sw rebels
@@alvinobege7307 was that their goal?
The middle one.
Are you going to make all of his appearances in the show like that, or just the footage for your edit?
Because I would like to use this your fix of him and the fix of grand inquisitor in my edit, if you don't mind of course.
He got a feet shorter in kenobi they should've picked a really tall actor for character accuracy
And wasn’t he Spanish in rebels?
@@jacktheflash8478 a slight accent yes.
Brooo comeee onnn. Disney didn't even tryyy how can some guy on youtube with 1% of the budget make something so much better! I mean no offense btw this is great and your passion shows.
This is going to be ground breaking when done
please tell me you're dubbing over him like you are with the grand inquisitor. i HATED his voice in the show
Honestly his voice wasn't that inaccurate from what it was like in Rebels. Obviously could have been better, but can't really complain there
I don't even know why they didn't make him look like how he was in Rebels, instead it's just an Asian guy with green facepaint
Because Disney doesn't care about pleasing fans or getting the lore right with anything
The 1 on the right is the best as it's closer to the Rebels version of the Fifth Brother
"Look Only" looks great, in my opinion. I do wish that Disney had chosen a different actor for that character, though, because this actor doesn't look anything like fifth brother. The character in the Kenobi show just doesn't look like an alien- the makup job just isn't good.
Doing what Hollywood won’t… honoring the source material!
Wow it really makes you see how lackluster the character designs were in the original. God I hated how they did Cad Bane. He didn't look like a Duros at all. just looked like a angry blue guy with red eyes and sharp teeth. These alien races need to feel distinctive and decidedly otherworldly and inhuman. Disney has been playing it way too safe. They need to put the artistry back into it.
more like lucasfilm
Things like these make me very happy, realizing I can look forward to a great project but also very sad how much Disney shits on their properties to make quick buck.
Wish you did make the face a little thinner and perhaps making him appear a little taller but you can only do so much!
You made the dude look more like a real alien.
Really digging the middle one!
The only way to fix this guy is to redo the face completely in CGI.
Have you done all the sequences?
Not yet. This will be a huge edit when it comes to fixes and general story flow, so I'm still testing out what works and what doesn't. But I did create a setup for changing the look of the inquisitors, which makes the whole workflow a bit faster.
Middle one is my favourite!
I'm sorry, but how can they look at the picture on the left and be like: "Yup, we nailed it."
It's just an even bigger kick in the stones knowing how small the crew is doing this. Freaking Disney man.
The inquisitors looked ridiculous in this show lmao. Good job fixing them
Really makes you wonder why the fuck Disney a couple worth hundreds of billions of dollars, won't make it look like this??
Loved the show but this design and the grand inquisitor is one of those 'really?' moments. You see in episode 3 what the race that the grand inquisitor should look like and can look like straight from George's vision, but no......lets just fuck it all up
I think the warp is too much. if that was the disney version, I would call him long boi every time i see him. and i know the original has longer face but rebels always had a bit exaggerated and cartoonic proportions.
This is so frustrating. To think just a pair of contacts and a little bit of darker makeup would have improved the look of Fifth so much.
Now it doesn’t look like a cheap Halloween mask. Why was it just flat yellow in the first place???
Here before 100 subscribers and just commenting for the algorithm bump. You deserve whatever success comes your way!
Due to the abundance of veins on his face, he looks like a zombie. Reminds me too much of the resurrected Liu Kang from MK D:
Now for the first time I saw how he looks in the animated series and he looks more like a golem than a dead man.
honestly im not even mad about the design in kenobi, im just baffled about the fact that the actor sounds and acts nothing like Fifth brother
Any voice rework? Hard to take Sung Kang seriously in the role as it is
Raiden from Mortal Kombat
Didn’t realize how bad it was until now 💀 can’t wait for this edit
Much better without the yellow tint in the skin.
This was the worst character
I also think the middle look is best!
Oh wow ❤
Middle preferred
This is so impressive but it also pisses me off that it has to be made in the first place.
Excellent!
The middle one looks MUCH better than both the original and squeezed one. great job !
Squeezed one?
@@jacktheflash8478 the third one’s head is a bit too thin and looks like its been squeezed, a nice middle ground between the second and third one would be perfect.
@@cpaul562the third one isn't squeezed it's source accurate
The fact that FANS can do a better job at THIS than a multimillion (Probably billion) dollar company just baffles me
Who definitely could have given the show a larger budget
@@jacktheflash8478 budget helps but you also need talent and passion.
You put the production crew of Kenobi series to shame with these videos!
The darkened skin, the angular veins, the elongated face and the slanted eyes are a reminder that he's supposed to be an alien species, not some actor in makeup
If they didn't think they could pull it off practically, why couldn't they use Motion Capture/CGI?
He looks a bit like that painting from IT
Asian Jeremy Clarkson
I think the warp's a bit much, but the reface is great. Although, in this case, I didn't think 5th looked bad at all as he stands. He wasn't GI levels of "oh now THIS needs a fix"
Kenobi should have been a movie, I understand during the time of filming that covid was still a concern but other than that reason it really should have been a movie. It could have been exceptional because a project like Kenobi should really be movie tier, especially considering that Han Solo got his own movie. With a movie budget they could have made the inquisitors look so much better, with use of CGI, and they could also have scrapped the majority of the series since a lot of the parts served no big purpose and wasn't really that great. It was a limited series with only 1 season so making it into a movie would've been the better approach. It could have been great, and I'm not trashing the series because I did like it but it had it's flaws but it could have been perfect. It deserved to be a movie and it surely would have made a lot more money for disney.
It definitely needed a higher budget
Go with the one in the middle. The pinched head looks awful.
I like the middle
That one ended up in the film.
Agreed middle is best
Digging the middle one.
look yes, warp no
The middle one is best.
The middle is best
Middle is best...
Woah. This is awesome. Far more close to the original character from rebels. Reminds of one the characters from Mortal Combat 11 lol
Yes, I’m sorry but the Fifth Brother isn’t a fat Asian man.
He shouldn’t look like the guy who plays Wong in the MCU.
I agree that the design isn't all that good, but how is he fat? Just looks like he has a bit of a wide face.
@viagray8098 hey that the actor who played han in fats and furious
