I love watching Adrian. I noticed this for the first time when I saw KC live at the Greek Theater in Berkeley and I see the same thing here. He is like a happy genius little kid with his toys. Human at its best.
He surely is. Even though musical giants like Zappa, Talking Heads, Bowie and Robert Fripp rated him among the highest of the high - still the public don't really have him in mind when 'greatest' guitarists are talked about
Amazing we are all in this growing up phase and new wisdom to all of the new things happening right now. We all knew something was happening but just could not figure out what it was. We are all waking up at so many levels and personal epiphanies at different levels and stages. I am in my late 40's and obviously knew and know of Adrian and Crimson. I just listened and re listen to 1981 - 1984. I have been binge watching Belew's work with all of the stages of his career. While I was listening to all of the others, I missed Adrian. Incredible guitar player. So different than any out there. I am enjoying this new discovery of the work. The future is bright.
Adrian in Amsterdam, as that is the boat hotel in the background. He played in Groningen, and Belew has a way of making a concert personal with every member of the audience. A giant in the guitar world, yet unknown in the mainstream as always the case.
The sounds he created with racks of analog effects & synths have come together in just a few pieces of equipment. His guitar is a triumph. Piezo bridge for acoustic & synth output along with a sustainer. He must be in heaven. Spending a lot less on gear no doubt.
Throughout most of this, I was interested, intrigued... But 2:45 completely blew my mind. I had tears in my eyes, my breath gone, and goosebumps all down my arms. To call this man a genius would be incomprehensive.
they're both cool enough to be able to influence (and be influenced by) each other - and then take all that further their own ways. this dialogue between all genuine musicians is endless and part of what the music world is all about.
In reality if you listen well fripp is different from belew...no better...different is less blues and melodic to Adrian...it isn't worse or better is a different style...he's got more influence by classical and asian / europian folk music...I love them too...I don't choose...crimson must change the line up to take their spirit...the latest is a great band...but I hope they'll do new material...in the spirit of the king crimson...sorry for my english...
I was lucky to see KCrimson in their farewell tour 2019, but ABelew was not part of the líneup. without this monster, I was all the time thinking how powerful is his contribution to one of the greatest prog rock band of all times.
He influenced everybody practically, all modern guitarists are aware of his ground breaking guitar work. For sure he did influence Vai through the Zappa connection but i think that Steve Vai was actually more influenced by Eddy Van Halen. Belew was playing with Zappa while Vai was employed as a transcription assistant for Zappa, in 1979.
Steve Vai is dismissed by many as a hair metal guy, Adrian Belew is dismissed by as an art nerd by many others. The truth is they are closer than their respective fan bases realize and both geniuses.
sublime. i saw him at the bulli heritage hotel and he came out after and he had drinks with the slightly unruly pub crowd, very funny , humble man for a soaring genius
"Quit playing that Phantom of The Opera Music!" as my Dad would yell at us whenever we would set up are instruments in the yard and play when we were young. He would threaten to pull the plug if we kept it up. Good times.
I love the ability to create... and express ones self! I hope that I will find the right teacher for me to learn the STRINGS!!!!!!! Im gonna start with a Fender Bass first! I pray to GOD will make the strings become an extension of my fingers, body and soul!
and great choice being a bass player...you get to drive the root note of the chord and rhythm of the low end, which is such a huge controlling factor in the sound and style and direction of a song, and you will definitely have more bands to pick from, everyones a guitarist.
I bought myself a Japanese Stratocaster when I was a teenager. I ended up selling it a number of years later. It had red streaks on the white pick guard... my fault. Red Ernie Ball pick. Cream body with honey-colored neck. Whammy bar 😊😘 Voice... I've always carried that around. I got very proficient with it over the years.
Funny, when I made that comment, I hadn’t seen him again until recently. I saw him at a festival, playing with what I considered some random band. The band was amazing though with an incredible horn section and two women singers. I can’t even remember the name of the band, but Adrian was lead guitar. I was grinning ear to ear because the people who went to the show were pretty much there to see the band, but I was there to see Adrian. He slipped in some King Crimson I think I even heard lone rhinoceros riffs in their music and I felt like I was the only one who noticed. It was amazing.
Yeah, you would think that? But I went with a large group of people and those people didn’t know who he was. They were a much younger crowd. I also socialized with a lot of people and said wow Adrian Ballew was great wasn’t he and they were like who? It was strange, but it was a very small festival. Anyway, that’s not saying much because younger people these days are listening to music like K-pop…
Now that's why he is the only guitarist that was allowed in King Crimson together with Fripp. Before, Fripp did all himself and it sounded great. But I think Fripp heard him play and was so impressed he invited him in. And then they had two guitarists. He is matching Fripps talents. And he also has a great singing voice
These sounds bring to mind a desert landscape, like trekking across the Sahara, the wind shifting the sand amidst the vast backdrop of an empty expanse....
Man..how did we get to the pohnt that there are almost no players like this around? We nee another punk rock/innovative moment to kick start music again.
/watch?v=UWfxQ4QFM4M In this video he explains what effects he's using, and how he makes some sounds. If you like him I highly recommend checking on his interviews, he's generously explaining lots of things. It inspired me a lot!
I think Robert Fripp had an influence on a lot of the musicians that he’s had in king crimson. You hear the Fripps influence in the projects that Adrian Belew, Trey Gunn, Tony Levin have done outside of their respective times in king crimson.
I love watching Adrian. I noticed this for the first time when I saw KC live at the Greek Theater in Berkeley and I see the same thing here. He is like a happy genius little kid with his toys. Human at its best.
All-time favorite show…
Isn't the Greek Theater in LA, didn't know there was one in Berkley.
@@JohnnieDelong yes the original Greek Theater is in LA - but there is also one at UC Berkely
Well said.
Yep yep ... That's Art. Amazing a little boy with crayons. Never lose your little boy. F. The world. Just play
He’s got a complete mastery of sound from his guitars. I love his enthusiasm and creativity. Great guy.
One of the most underrated guitarists....
He surely is. Even though musical giants like Zappa, Talking Heads, Bowie and Robert Fripp rated him among the highest of the high - still the public don't really have him in mind when 'greatest' guitarists are talked about
@@danguee1 Adrian can play with anyone and be a tremendous asset. xxx Adrian, best to your wife, Martha.
I think he is overrated, his work in King Crimson incapsulates the worst era of the band
@@manuelpedrosd I don't agree with that at all. After Belew left was the worst version of the band.
Don’t you know that this comment has been banned from RUclips for being overrated and stooopid!!!
I met him in Melbourne Australia when he toured with the Krimson ProjeKt and his Piwer Trio. He is a lovely genuine human being.

I love an artist who enjoys the work. Put a guitar in Bellow's hands and a smile will quickly follow.
Put a guitar in my hands, and I play Flamengo, not acrobats on an electric guitar.

Esse homem não é desse mundo é um absurdo sua compreensão criatividade musical ele é um monstro
For all the tech he's using, Adrian still wears an old school watch.
The people riding bikes past in the background have no idea a living legend is making a video only feet from them. So cool...
YES!!!! That is exactly what was going through my mind when I saw life just carrying on through the window.
I used to park my car in front of Smart Studios not knowing that's what it was, and that Garbage was producing their first album in there.
Love to hear Adrian and Jeff Beck play together, that would be monumental.
I miss Jeff Beck.
Gotta love Adrian, even on serious pieces and somber compositions he can't help but slyly smile at the music.
This is just next level. Amazing.
His talent is matched only by his imagination. Great stuff.
I can listen to him all day long with eyes close. Carry on Mr. A Belew!
I love this genius man. I even love his shoes :)
What an incredible talent. Just listening, he takes you to so many places. Thanks Adrian! 👍

He went to the best school of rock
Indeed. I scared my sleeping cat jumping up out of bed to shout an approving, rocking, "Yeah!" right about then, too.
He can make the guitar sing in so many different ways.
I wonder if he lives in the city of tiny lights. What an artist!
OMG, his vocals on that live City of Tiny Lights Zappa recording. Something else entirely. The man is a superman.
Adrian Belew - another sorely under rated great. Unique talent and serious musician.
Way under rated guitarist and composer!

I can definitely see this guy being a huge influence on Steve Vai. Strange how that hasn't come up anywhere.
He influenced everybody practically, all modern guitarists are aware of his ground breaking guitar work.
