🌹A story involving the mistreatment of a servant named Sambukan by a zaminn (a local feudal lord) in the north, who then sought refuge in Vellayakoundanur. Muniyappan, who was present in Vellaiyagoundanur, also accompanied Sambukan. At that time, Palliyappanayakar, the zamin of Vellaiyagoundanur, was unable to collect and pay the tax, which resulted in him being imprisoned in the Konnoor jail. Sambukan, who was aware of this situation, met the zamin and paid the dues to secure his release. In gratitude for Sambukan's assistance, the zamin granted him the right to serve in various panchayats, including Koovakkapatti, Usilampatti, Ammapatti, and Natthapatti. Muniappan, who had accompanied Sambukan during this endeavour, appears to have a significant role in the local community and is described as the protector of the surrounding people, known as Sri Muniappan🌸
🍉It seems that this temple has a long-standing cultural and religious significance in the region. The temple festival is funded through the collection of taxes from the people of four panchayats, indicating the communal support for the temple's activities and rituals. The mention of devotees coming to the temple with "Vel" (a type of spear associated with the god Murugan in South Indian tradition) and Sheep suggests that the temple may be dedicated to a particular deity, and these offerings could be part of the religious practices and rituals performed there. The presence of more than 5,000 Vel (presumably statues or representations of Vel) around the temple further emphasizes the importance of Vel in the worship and religious ceremonies conducted at the temple🍇
