Disclaimer, I am not a medical professional and do not perceive this video as a full guide to traumatic experience. It’s a very complex topic and I am covering a bare bones skeleton of it within a world of fiction. At most, The lion guard shows baby steps to how trauma occurs, how people heal and struggle with healing, and what it does to self esteem for the character Kion. Please do your own research if you are struggling with a traumatic event and seek professional help.
That odd moment when you realise that Disney Junior shows do a much better job at storytelling than modern Disney ever could.
Fr tho, i remember being obssesed with Princess Sofia when i was a kid and now that i look back at the show itself it was genuielly good, not a masterpiece because its was still made for kids but it was cool.
Not really odd and that was just unnecessary to bring up?
@@MariaRose-pv9qfeh i disagree
This is still modern Disney tho
it's kinda true though because modern Disney now barely has any storytelling nowadays
Lion King 2 was also very dark.
Child abuse, generational beef, Zira training her son to kill simba and they say kill rather than destroy or some other sugar covered word, Simba having ptsd from Scar even years later, Zira willing to kill her own daughter (one of the only disney villains who wanted to kill their biological child). Even Zira's lullaby is so dark she's fantasising about killing a child, talking about blood and how their deaths are her lullaby. This movie is seriously so dark.
That's exactly why I love it!
Also, there is also a debate that some of Zira's children are 'adopted', as Kovu is mentioned to be an orphan, a term usually saved for children missing all of their parents. This could imply that Zira kidnapped Kovu from some other lions, which makes this even worse.
@WyvernoftheStars Same, I love it so much because it doesn't hold back.
I think Nuka is definitely Scar and Zira's son, he's the perfect mix and even in simba dream about scar he looked so much like Nuka until he walked into the light. Vitani also looked like Zira plus I just like the idea she is Scar's daughter. I think they just said that about kovu because otherwise its incest with Kiara and its just a throwaway line because for the rest of the movie they treat him like he is Scar's son. Simba even says "He followed in Scar's footsteps now I must follow my fathers".
I honestly would not care about lion incest but its Disney so need to be kid friendly.
@WyvernoftheStarsThey never said Kovu was an orphan. They only said Scar wasn't his father.
At least in the film, I've never seen the show so I don't know if they retconned it there.
Child indocktrination
Spoiler for mufasa moovie:
We seenthisbin the realistic snimation universe as well the child indoctrination i mean
It seams like a minor detail but takas father tells him all tve time fufasa will betray u u have to be cunnibg and screaming sonetines u are born to be king
Al these words got to takas head so much that when sarabi chooses mufasa over him he views as as an betrayl and get verry mad becouse his heart got broken there
And when the animals choose mufasa as king over him he tries to be understanding but again therebisnthisbechonof his fatherbin the back of his mind and some switch in his head got flicked and sadness and jeslousy turn into hatret .hatretbtowards the brother he once wished for
@WyvernoftheStarshim and vitani ARE adopted. Otherwise kovu and Kiara would be cousins …
It's hilarious how Kovu and Kion are basically the same age, and by the time Kovu was totally grown, he had a mane! That'd mean Kion is now an adult, just has no mane.
I can imagine all the other lions tease him about his lack of a mane in adulthood.
That's probably why he's friends with other animals
Kiara is older than Kion and Kion isn't shown during Kiara's childhood in TLK2 suggesting he was born after her meeting with Kovu so Kovu is older.
He’s a late bloomer 😅
@Markus2E5I6 exactly
@Markus2E5I6 we've seen the two together as cubs. They're the same size, have similar mane tufts, and are at the same stage of development.
When Zira told Kion about losing the roar to using it on her and other lions, I’ll be honest.
What an amazing lie that was.
Yep
This proves of what a Great Villain Zira is.
Zira was such a good villain.
@@racheljackson4428 Yep.
Well, Scar lost the roar because of him killing his lion guard.
About the blood/spit; It isn't unheard of for placeholder colours in animation to be bright red, since it stands out. Especially for translucent material like spit, having a solid colour as a place holder helps you place it better.
But boy does it look disturbing if you forget to actually ADD the correct colour XD
@@Anamizuki makes a lot of sense! I’ve also been told it’s Komodo dragon spit lol
@@kaytoartDo you watch any Christmas films?
@@kaytoartYou know Disney has made and produced odd, kooky and Babyish stuff but sometimes they have moments that are 😂,sad and AWESOME!
Who else thinks tlg would be WAY better if it wasn’t targeted at little kids, like if this was maybe a 12/13+ series, and they were able to more clearly show these elements of trauma, this show could’ve been fucking legendary.
Edit: Guys be nice please this is just a debate not an argument 😭😭
agreed, the show kind of suffered from having to be dumb a lot of the time.
Well, even if I was 12 years old, I watched the show just to know how this story ended and I don't regret it.
Yeah, I do not see the logic in grouping The Lion Guard in the same demographic as Paw Patrol, or Bluey.
The only other Lion King TV series that I remember was Timon & Pumbaa's spinoff that was on Toon Disney in the 90s, and THAT was a more comedic show with a larger audience range since it's demographic was 12/13+ (It wasn't as heavy as The Lion King movie itself, but it has some episodes that even little kids would find too much.)
In short, I agree that The Lion Guard should've been aimed at teens and allowed to be darker (and maybe not be absurd with the lore. I think we know what I mean.)
Yup.
disagreed. little kids also get to have shows like this. If we go down this road no show would be targeted towards little kids "because all of them would have been better for older kids" naaa I also don't like this thought. Us being older means we can engage with the show but it isn't made for us.
there is a reason they show THIS to this age demographic and it's necessary, it teaches valuable things. Older kids get other shows.
so this show can be legendary and be for little kids. and (while i have never watched it fully) from what I see in this video it is already. Being for older people doesn't make it better. It's as good as it is BECAUSE it was made like this
This is really why we need to keep kids shows done well, with love and respect. This can help kids understand that sometimes you can't just "fix" things. That there is no "going back to normal". Just finding a new one.
Not really?not every kid is gonna help with that and they shouldn't be taken seriously imo
@ivoeggetterobotnick3598 Knowing things can't always be fixed is a very important lession that everyone should know. Many adults struggle to accept when an illness or injury are permanent. The sooner people learn that lession, the healthier they will be.
@@ivoeggetterobotnick3598 But sometimes, depending on your environment, your family and or community, as a child who's being parentified, and or just having a big responsibility like being an older sibling or kid who has to tackle schoolwork/club activities, this message is pretty important. The age demographic for this show is 4-10 to what I understand, and I don't know about you, but at least by age 7, I knew I was responsible for things that a child shouldn't typically be responsible for, yet was anyways because of the circumstances in my household.
@@ivoeggetterobotnick3598 ...What kind of sheltered la-la-land do you live in?
So two things.
1.) scar wasn't responsible for anything they did in a real life setting.
Because in a real life setting when the Lions liver cannot properly manage the poison.
It literally damages the brain.
You are no longer you.
2.) kions entire story was a" I am the same as my abuser, because I have something that makes me similar to them arch" except the abuse wasn't something that was done directly to him by the abuser.
Is that forgiveness part, was the whole forgiveness is for you not for the abuser.
It helps you move past the pain and anguish without excusing the conduct.
This is why kion's training was literally nothing more than a mud mask and things that would help them relax.
Because in a loins circumstance like this it has nothing to do with treatment that you can receive.
It's all in your genetics you either will overcome the poison or you won't.
And scar literally says in the first movie that when it comes to brute strength he does not have it.
He was strong enough to survive the snake bite but he was not strong enough to survive the after effects of the poison.
It permanently and forever changed him, altering who he would have been, and altering the conduct.
Ironically we never see the pride landers making amends for training people that simply having a scar was evidence you were bad.
That’s enlightening. I wish the show elaborated about forgiveness like that, but more of a self-reflection and saying to yourself that you forgive yourself for being put into situations out of your control because people don’t realize that forgiveness doesn’t have to be expressed towards the abuser.
If you ever saw that video of the Lioness that got bit by a poisonous snake they can survive because of sheer poundage but it looked like she was having a seizure and her cubs and fellow lionesses could only watch helplessly. I am not an expert by any means but he's lucky he wasn't smaller because if it was full injection like in a paw or leg he would likely be dead or at least close to it. It's truly dependant on the type of snakes venom some snakes are more dangerous than others.
I saw Kion's treatment as a therapy of sorts, as him learning to accept that he is scarred but that doesn't make him evil lile Scar. Self love.
the forgiveness part is spot on. when you forgive, it's not about excusing the other party's actions or forgetting about it. it's acknowledging that what they did was wrong and that it hurt you, but you won't let any of your hatred, anger, etc affect you. that you will let go of said hatred anger & etc so that you can start healing
crazy
8:42 he says “I forgive you” because in reality learning to cope and let go in a healthy way instead of continuing and holding onto a grudge is honestly stronger than demonizing and trying return the blow to the enemy who just wants to destroy one’s self
It’s a very Christian thing to do. Disney, in its good parts, has godly messages. It’s not like the world to forgive such an evil person. It’s Christ who taught that. You forgive because God will always forgive you when you ask. Not forgiving is hypocrisy. It does show incredible human character. But there’s also justice- so Scar would face the consequences of his actions while also being forgiven. There is no act unnoticed by God, so we should forgive because that is the least we can do to pitiful souls. Also, forgiveness heals yourself.
2:24 Here's my personal headcannnon for that: when he says when the leader of the Lion Guard is "of age", he means of age to start training with the current Lion Guard to one day take over their duties. But since there's no Lion Guard to train Kion's guard, they basically are winging the whole thing and figuring it out as they go. Basically, Scar broke the cycle, and Kion's guard was meant to be the one to restart the cycle.
That make sense
Scar taking a little playful sibling tease to such petty levels is very on brand
Playful sibling tease? Bruh Scar was freaking wounded SAVING the Pride Lands from whatever it was that Rogue Lion was planning to do while Mufasa was sitting on his haunches doing nothing. And then has the gall to laugh and act like Scar getting wounded in service to his kingdom is no big deal and starts calling him Scar.

RE: Vitani leading the lion guard, I think what rubbed me the wrong way about it when I watched TLG (which, granted, was quite a few years ago) is that it runs sort of antithetical to the initial conceit of the show. The first episode focuses on (to my recollection lol) the pushback Kion receives for instating an interspecies Lion Guard, so in that respect it feels like such a slap in the face to have the series conclude with an all-lion Lion Guard and no systemic change at all. Vitani replacing Kion isn't the issue imo; it's moreso the fact that her Guard is all lions.
Also I think something that bugged me while I was watching was the lack of interspecies (romantic) relationships - or even just interest, like crushes etc. I know that it's a kids show and that sort of thing realistic to the natural world or whatever, but if you're presenting them all as sentient creatures who all equally participate in society then it just feels a little... weird, right?? Like they're saying something about interracial relationships or implying that the only valid couples are ones that can have biological children? Maybe I'm the only person bothered by that but it does nag at me in basically all of Disney's animal-related media lol
@@sunstartle you’re very right, Kion had been the only one to take the instruction very literally and is the first to have that species diversity so it’s a bit disappointing. However this is also the first full female lion guard so there is that too!
@@kaytoart True!! I do support the all-female aspect of it very much :P
They're also all Outlander lions, it would make sense that Vitani doesn't know any other pridelander animals because:
1. She's new to the land.
2. The rest of the pridelanders would initially know her as an invader that came to kill their king.
Why would any of the other animals join her guard?
My theory is that simba gave them the position so that the pridelanders would start warming up to the former Outlanders. We know how they treated Kovu so they were probably pretty frosty to the former outlanders too.
Ngl, the fact Mufasa only appears to Kion and not to Simba who very much so has never been told once in his life that the death of his father wasn't his fault is completely messed up.
Also off-topic, but I guess this was because it was a kids show, but the Lion Guard whenever mentioning Scar acts like he was killed by being tossed into the fire on Pride Rock. And when they first showed that to me as a child, I was like "Didn't his own hyenas literally eat him alive?"
Scar saying he killed Mufasa was literally what gave Simba the power to pin him down.
@@drewluczynski9609 Huh, I guess I missed that.
Either way, if Mufasa can appear to his descendants, why not appear to his own son?
@ I can’t say. If you’re referring to LK2, maybe it was because he was watching over Kion at the time. Best answer I can give
@he does appear and talk with Simba (with Kion present) in one of the season 2 episodes “The Wisdom of Kongwe”, specifically to address what they should do about Scar’s return, guiding them to seek out Kongwe’s help. I don’t know if this means that he has been chatting with Simba on the regular or if he specifically needs Kion there to get the ball rolling, but considering Simba isn’t surprised at all, Mufasa must’ve chatted with him at some point after Kion got his roar.
@@falconanddragons2214 There's nothing to suggest that he doesn't.
8:39 Okay, I’m going to say he meant he forgave him for what Scar did to HIM specifically. Especially since he literally summons the past lions to judge Scar seconds later.
This is why I love TLK Series and TLG Show. It's written incredibly well and coming back now older, I saw myself in Kion and the other characters feel like characters and not acessories to Kion. They have their own flaws they must work through.
Bunga with his recklessness
Makini with her naivatey
Anga with her cold nature
Beshte with his almost blind trust
Fuli with her attitude
and Ono with his anxiety.

@@kaytoartokay, I like your video, and all...but Makku has tried killing Kion when he was a cub, it's not hard to see why, he doesn't like him, dude
@ but in this episode, he is trying for good and does nothing wrong. He continues throughout his appearances and this episode is the start of that. Within the episode, the animals plot to drop him into a pit and Mtoto hears their plots as Makuu causing trouble because of the bias towards crocodiles

I really love seeing others take this show seriously. I know it's not perfect, but I love it sooo much
As someone who was dignosed with mental trauma and depression its not something that can be healed within a few days. It can take years and honestly it never goes away. I still have depression but over the last 2 years i’ve found something to help me…or well someone. But mental health is a very complicated thing and unless someone’s struggled with it…they won’t understand it
Considering the theme of mental illness and trauma here, it’s what I always say: “The worst scars, are the ones we can’t see”.
With the new Mufasa movie released and that we saw the past of Scar and Mufasa, if I were to write the in between of the new movie to Lion King 1 then I would write that they did attempt to heal Scar, but because of the bitterness and the snake scar's effect he ignored the help in favor of his own bitterness (I know that in the new movie Scar got his scar from a lion, but if I were to write it the snake reopened the scar causing the poison to take affect).
The snake would aid in his sense of right or wrong, but his resentment would aid to his final decision. This just shows that despite the efforts of those around him, he chose to hold on to the past and use it to aid his choice resulting to the rest of the movies and series.
Idk this is like a way to explain and mash both the series and the movies together since the writers did that in season 3 and the 2nd Lion King movie. I kinda just wanted to fill the plotholes that the movies and series left. TvT
The mufasa movie is AU
@@madnessarcade7447 From what I researched though, the movie was just a prequel to the Lion King. I don't find anything about it being an AU(alternate universe) since it considered as the origin of Scar and Mufasa. And the other comments also seem to agree that it is a prequel.
But if I misunderstood what you meant by AU then please explain ^v^.
@@CallmeYuwan He's saying the obvious fact that it's only a prequel to the crappy remake. Also, obviously, Scar(AKA Taka)'s family didn't know about the snake venom that was messing with his mind and Scar lied to everyone about how his teammates died.
@@Optimegatrongodzilla Oh I must have misunderstood it since I just thought that the remake was just a remake of a good movie but with real life lions (By the way yeah the remake was crappy).
Also yeah I know that Scar's family didn't know about it, I was just trying to write in some parts that would make sense since Mufasa seems to be the type to care about his brother (the original Lion King movie, not the remake).
I remembered, the moment I saw this show airing on TV, I immediately fell in love with it. It's one of those rare cases where a young kids show actually has good writing! You could tell that they genuinely love this series, however simple it is in general.
Yeah but the season 1 and 2 voice actors, they were either cringe now or really good
@@Countryballgaming21 You mean the main cast?
I haven’t watched the video yet but I came here to say this
he was forced into government work as a kid.
his sister gets the praise while he does all the work
his own abilities have caused harm instead of destruction a few times
he’s dealing with insane expectations from himself, his father, his very kingdom (majority are adults, placing all these responsibilities to a young kid)
During season 3, he is clearly in a very vulnerable position as he tries to heal not only from the venom but from being separated from his home, reminiscing his glory/not so glory days as the leader of the Lion guard.
Him being vulnerable has made it a lot easier for Rani to use him and manipulate him for his roar, she hasn’t shown an ounce of care for who he actually was within. Rani, the supposedly, “future leader of the Tree of Life” before Queen Janna died, has not acknowledged his need for healing because his struggles/sickness wasn’t “visible to her”.
She also tried to isolate him from his friends and the idea of his family, and even during his wedding, she calls him “The Roar”, not seeing him for who he truly is, but for the abilities that benefit her.
KION DESERVED SO MUCH BETTER
I hope you are doing well today.👍
The odds were stacked against Kion from the very start, sadly.
When the series was coming out, and I first learned of Kion being Simba's son. my first thought was: "waitaminute...If Kion is Simba's son, AND this show is canon with the first two films, then WHERE THE HECK WAS HE IN THE LION KING 2!??"
So no matter what, I knew that in order to keep the continuity intact, Kion was always going to eventually be forgotten and shunned by his own family since he technically didn't exist at the time the second movie was happening.
To the point that I wouldn't had been that surprised if Kion turned evil like Scar in all those fanworks, as like Scar, Kion was needlessly neglected simply because he wasn't the firstborn.
None of what you're claiming is surface level, you're just reading way too deeply into everything she does to find a way to justify why you don't like Rani. Girl didn't do anything wrong, you could just as easily read into her calling him The Roar being an affectionate term referring to all the good and hero work he has done, because she appreciates what he did for her and everyone else. While he was healing she just straight up didn't trust him, that's why she acted uncaring, she still understood his need to be there, its supposed to be an enemies to lovers trope; once she got to know him better she cared a lot for him. Also, you think her asking him to be her King was just to isolate him from his family? Um, how about she asked him because she's in love with him? She didn't demand it, it was a suggestion, an invitation! People don't ask their partners to marry them and move away from their family because they want to isolate them, it's because either way one of them has to move to be with the other, and moving away from family is a part of growing up for most people anyway. And Rani's the queen, she can't just leave her kingdom and her responsibilities to be with Kion. A queen or king is a necessity, the Lion Guard is not. Hope this wasn't offensive, I just don't understand when people hate characters based on what they headcanon them to be, not what the show tried to make them.
@MetroXLR-99 I hope you are doing well today.👍
@frostedsketch14 I hope you are doing well today.👍
Why did I tear up during this video?! Seriously though, really great work! 👍
Also, Bunga annoyed the f#@¡ out of me whenever he talked about Kion possibly turning evil! Like, hello?! Do you not know your best friend? He had to have been in so much pain 24/7 and yeah he shouldn't have lashed out, but claiming he's turning evil is an exaggeration. Especially, because of how terrified Kion is of possibly turning evil, that should prove he wasn’t going to.
all true and i hate him too but tbh he isnt wrong, kion was turning evil and lying to himself that he isnt wont make him feel better, and it will only make it harder o accept help if you cant even accept yourself first. Kion was turning evil thats why he wanted to heal in the first place but wth how insensitive bunga was yeah he sucks lol

@@AdaminTranzit I don't think that Bunga is a bad character, but some of the writing for him in the 3rd season is a bit off, making it seem like he's excited that Kion's mind is being affected by Ushari's venom.

@@flamboyantroach YEAH! It's like he was _excited_ for Kion to turn evil! WTF??
I think Bunga might have a dark side, tbh.
I feel like the difference between Scar and Kion is that Kion put in the effort into getting help, unlike Scar.
Though yes it was tough getting through ones trauma and mental issues YOU are still the one that controls what you do with it and how YOU handle it. Scar never took that into consideration and never tried unlike Kion.
And for that, Kion earns respect.
Agreed - Kion listened to his friends, Scar killed his "friends". I think his personality was just that way - very standoffish and feeling others are beneath him. So when he was ill, he did not have the same mental or emotional resources that Kion had to draw upon.
16:20 I had always assumed the snake attack wasn't about injecting venom. Snakes with venom can bite without injecting venom, they're called Dry Bites. They can even decide how much venom to inject. I assumed the scars were caused by those cobras doing Dry Bites and the venom talk is actually a psychological manipulation. Blaming the venom as the cause of their evil actions.
Rafiki couldn't help Kion with the venom because there was no venom.
i’m rewatching the lion guard, and it hurts seeing kion go through so much as a cub and then as a teenager
I like how this is bringing back my childhood and also ruining it at the same time.
AMAZING ANALYSIS! I love the Lion Guard and I remember watching season 3 when it was airing weekly and it was definitely my favorite. I was glued to the TV because of this amazing healing journey that they were doing for Kion. It honestly blew my mind! I didn't think this Disney Junior show had it in them but I was proven wrong. I was like 'is anyone else seeing this???? It's amazing!'. Great video! Great job!
Season 2 and 3 of Lion Guard were the best for sure! Im so glad to see it still being discussed because Season 3 was really really interesting for Kion's character
I re-watched this show a couple of times, and it feels good that someone finally talks about it. I never really noticed that Kion was a metaphor for trauma and healing, but it makes sense.
I've been waiting for a video like this! I must admit that I have spent a couple of years pondering the topic of mental health in TLG. THANKS A LOT!!!
Maybe Rafiki sent the lion guard away because if kion were to stay, then he could get worse. It reminds me of an episode of Heartstopper where Charlie had to be sent away to fix his eating disorder.
This is changing my mind about MYSELF❤

For this
This show is a great example that you shouldn't judge every book by its cover.
I have watched this show so many times and have never noticed that the place where Kion roars at Bunga is the same as the place where Scar roars at his guard that is such a good detail how did I not notice. Fan privileges revoked.
Scar lost the power because he proved he wasn't worthy of it by letting the power go. Kion proved he was deserving of the roar permanently
Season 3 has to be the best season in my opinion. It shows how mature this show is and how well it treats its audiences. The Lion King franchise does show me how mature it is, including Mufasa and Queen Jana, Scar, and Ushari’s deaths, coughs or injuries with blood coming out, facing the fact the venom can affect a lion’s head, and heck, even the morals, especially Friends To The End. That episode shows its audiences that no matter how regularly bad or dark your life can be, your friends will always do their best to cheer you up and inspire you to be better.
I think for the painting where all the past guards look like adults, I remember in the first movie rafiki paints simba as a cub, then later he adds a main on top making the same painting look like an adult. I think rafiki changes the paintings as the characters age so *maybe* the other guards were younger to

I do hope you continue to make videos like this one, it was really good! I had all the books when I was a kid, and I know they're not exactly considered canon now, but I still like to think they are. For a long time I was super sure that the inciting incident between Simba and Zira that was never shown on screen aside from just saying she followed Scar, was that it had something to do with Kopa being stolen and probably killed offscreen, which would of course lead to Simba being THAT over protective of Kira. Certainly is unlikely to be canon but it was a fun idea for a while

It does make me wonder things could had got differently for Scar if he wasn’t a bitter, power hungry evil lion. Just look at Kion, he may not have been next in line for being king of pride rock but he did become king of the tree of life. And why because Kion never embrace evil, he became a great noble leader.

crazy that the internalized feelings means that the show was showing that the scar and poison wasn't the cause for evil, but instead, internalized pain and trauma. i was worried the scar being shown as the root of the evil would internalize "scars = evil" so im happy to see that the show didn't take that route
Okay but why didn't Rafiki help Scar get to the tree if he was there and saw Scar acting strange. If he knows Kion is going through what Scar did; he should have helped Scar.
rafiki probably tried! if you think back to the original movie, when scar first takes over, rafiki doesn’t look angry.. he just looks defeated, upset. knowing these characters he probably did try to convince him, maybe even offering to go with scar humself since makini wasn’t there at the time. but scar insisted he was fine, maybe even roaring at rafiki and getting confused as to why rafiki didn’t blast off until remembering he already lost it
For all we know, he didn’t realize it until it was too late. Maybe that’s how the found out what Scar did to his guard. It was all after the fact
Maybe he didn't take it seriously until it was eas too late. He refused to make the same mistake with Kion.
Love love loved this video!!!! I didn’t realize how deep they went into his trauma and recovery process, it’s honestly really amazing they did that and were able to convey this deep and important message with the tools and limitations they had!
Him and Steven from Steven Universe could get along both traumatized as kids
I thought of that too!!
From a go happy child to mature to Traumatized to briefly evil, to leaving home for a better future.
Watched this on a whim since I watched the Lion Guard as a kid. You reminded me what a bop Sisi ni Sawa is.
A LION GUARD VIDEO IN 2024?! LET'S GOOOO!
Didn't they explain why Bunga was fine from the snake bite, he's a honey badger and I think they're implied to be immune to venom aren't they? So Rafiki only really needed to help with the physical injury rather than cleaning the venom out
Honestly, I'm impressed that Disney JUNIOR of all things, has made a wonderful (sequel, kinda) series
In addition to LK, LK2, and LG, I also recommend the fan fics Shadowlands: A Scared Pride, and (at least parts of) Kings and Vagabonds. You can end up with pretty epic adventure!
Its not "misogynistic" to hate Rani ☠️💀
You hated her for how she treated Kion which is a valid reason actually, you didn't just hate her cause she's a female character
Yeah because if it was for misogynistic reasons people would hate Nala, Sarabi, Kiara, Fuli, Anga etc. But they are all popular characters.
I did, but the language I used was not good. Others were worse about it but it was BECAUSE of those videos and that’s why I’m not as comfortable with them anymore
@@kaytoart still not misogynistic
@AlfieTrevor4444 yet, I don’t want to encourage it
THIS
9:14 - 9:17 omg how come I NEVER realized this detail until now?!?
I love kion sm and i think this video shows up the stress and even trauma he had dealt with
I disagree with people saying he is flat and a gary stue protagonist, while i do think the roar was done so overpowered at the end (the only argument i actually agree tho) i believe kion has some traits of character and do make mistakes that later on he learns about. Like the first episode where he learns not to judge all hyenas by meeting jasiri or when he learns to trust makuu
Or even in season 3 where he questions himself for not being able to use the roar
Those are moments where Kion showed to have flaws and not being all perfect
Woah. This is the one of the best videos i've seen in such a long while. Almost teared up. Beautiful work!!!
Love the kion and scar parallels throughout the show
This video reminded me how much I love the lion guard and stuff.
you absolutely COOKED HERE!!!! beautiful analysis :D
I'll be honest whenever this franchise was still making episodes before Season 3, I had a stupid idea for this show back when I didn’t understand how creating characters work & my drawing skills weren’t the greatest
What was the idea, if you don't mind sharing
So from what I can remember (because it’s been awhile) it involves this like…Hollowearth kinda deal located underground of the Pridelands/Outlands, it would be home to the many Cryptids of Africa. Basically it’s a Spec Evo or Time portal kinda deal, I think I was in my BBC’s Primeval fades at the time so…yeah
0:59 This made me twiddle my toes and giggle
My biggest pet peeve with this show is how Simba basically reverted back to his old childish self from the original movie for no reason
You do realize a majority of the lion guard took place before lion King two right
@ Okay, but still. Simba is a grown adult and a dad. He should know better 🤦♂️
@ am I going to continue this argument?
@DragonstarTDB5 That’s like saying that Marinette’s stalker behavior in Miraculous Ladybug is “understandable” because it all happened before Season 5
@ not going to continue this argument I have better things to do
FINALLY A LION KING VIDEO ESSAY CHANNEL YIPPEEEEEEE
I wont lie, i deadass thoughgt that Mama Binturong wanting to hoard the tuliza was a nod to her being a drug addict-
The reason for scars evil in lion guard is so much better then mufasas
I also think disliking that ending just because they think Kion is "better" than Vitani(?) is undermining Kion's choices and his new role. Even if he WAS "better" why does that mean he cant choose a different path? Why cant he believe she deserves it or even why cant he want to do something different? Didn't we just spend an entire season dismantling the idea of destiny, like i know it was about the scar and not the roar but why not? Why not it be about the roar? He never chose that either, and it also defined how he saw himself. Part of his healing journey was understanding hes not just the roar and his worth does not lie in his ability to use it. So why not let him give that up? Honestly i hated that ending because they chickened out of taking away the roar from him, yeah yeah its a show made for literal babies or whatever but its literally the last episode theres no reason to do that man. Let him find his own power, thats what healing is about. She was never defined by the roar, meaning she'd be able to use it with better discretion, her self worth as a leader would not be challenged by accidents regarding the roar. And yeah, im sorry she is a better fit, mostly just because she wasn't 12 when they put her in charge of border control but still let Kion make his own decisions
It wasn’t long after vitani and her group attacked the pride lands so let’s be honest the animals of the pride lands shouldn’t have even entertained the idea of replacing kion’s lion guard with vitani’s 😂. Also kion is by far the better leader. He has way more experience and he literally united the animals of the pride lands when things were grim.
Unfortunately, I think future lion king stories and stuff are just gonna forget about these characters; which low-key kinda sucks
I think this is a sign to revisit my Lion Guard crazy fanboy era lol. I loved this show when it first dropped
I watched this show at least twice on the website u showed on the screen a few years ago and let me say, I fully agree with everything u said.
Same although it's embarrassing it took me till this video to fully realise what season 3 was really trying to tell us
i havent watched this show since i was a little kid and hearing Kion hit puberty made me feel so fucking old-
Never thought I’d see a TLG video essay but I’m here for it
Ah, The Lion Guard…
The show where Kion gets hung on the shows equivalent of benzos and then there’s that bearcat that is hung on the flower benzos.
They use benzodiazepines to treat anxiety and other mental health disorders. They’re addictive too.
I watched it again to tbh after rewatching s3 and everything you showed me in this vid, I wished we had more stuff like this for kids
(Btw if you didn’t watch this in a long time I highly recommend watching season 3)
Makes me want to rewatch the Lion Guard again. Thank you! Amazing video!!!!
This is a lovely video, and I agree with most of it. I very much enjoyed your breakdown of Kion's trauma and how the show addresses it.
But I will say on the topic of Scar: he was already a bad person before the bite. The stranger showed up and claimed to have a way for them to take the power of the throne for themselves and Scar was totally on board and interested by his own admission in his song. He only attacked the stranger after he was bitten. He was entirely willing to plot the death of his sibling for power before he was affected by the venom.
Not to say that it didn't affect him, but it's not the root cause of his choices; merely an exacerbator of what was already there. Had he not been bit, he very well might not have been as genocidal after the coup.
(Or he might have been worse, had he been completely healthy, and capable of having inhibitions to better strategize with. (I would argue we don’t have enough information on him before his affliction to know either way.))
In the context we get in the story, however, he is using this narrative as an excuse for why he isn’t to blame for his own actions. Portraying himself as a victim so that Kion’s fall to evil seems inevitable. Here he is actively manipulating this account to further his own ends, I do not think this could be considered a completely reliable retelling of events.
(Though, this reasoning might be his justification in his own internal narrative since he specifically blames the venom for his inability to use the roar, even though we see the venom doesn't stop its victim from using the roar, just loses control of it. What caused him to lose the roar was the fact he tried to convince his friends to commit treason against his king (and I repeat, his SIBLING), and when they refused, he murdered them. But that's not really relevant.)
Whew! Sorry, that got long. I hope I was able to explain my reasoning in a way that makes sense. And I hope to see more of your videos come across my feed in the future.
I put it on to watch while I painted. I got sucked in. Its an amazing show
If I'm gonna be honest, I only ever watched the pilot of The Lion Guard. Remind me of this when you see it, as I am going to go watch it before proceeding with this video. Thank you :D
12:18 i know its not supposed to be taken that seriously given its a kids show but this scene is a bit upsetting for me. like this dude's already going trough all this bullshit and now he's being told he's just straight up evil by his own friends?? i havent watched the whole show so it might just be out of context but damn
@@looooo24 it’s mostly Bunga who does it, but Kion was acting out super badly too and it needed to be addressed. The episode is friends til the end
Kion: the traumatized boi
20:40 - The blood was presumably from Beshte, whom Ora had just bitten. They even show the wound with the bite marks for a scene or two afterward (notably one of the few if only times a character shows a fresh injury at all in the series).
@@poppyraima5342 It’s actually because Komodo dragons have red spit! It ended up being too graphic
This was right up my alley 🙏🙏
Amazing work I can tell you work hard on it.👍💜💯
As someone who doesn’t watch this and is more of a direct-to-dvd sequel movie universe person than a tv show that's a separate universe where instead of one of your favorite characters existing another character exists on the other side, pretty sure all of this happens in the Love Nikki universe which is really funny because that's something I do know well and I could even see a side story similar to Lion Guard in Wasteland
I still feel iffy about how Kion is a teen when he got married because I’m sure there would have been another way to be bound without teen marriage like some weird old-time royal marriage 😂
I’m surprised I haven’t heard that many people talk about Kion’s trauma because it was such an important aspect of him.
probably mostly because it is a show mostly aimed at toddlers, not even 13yo kids so most people didnt really care that much ig lol
Maybe there was a one year time skip and he’s 18? I don’t know haven’t watched it in a long while
Yeah it always made me feel iffy
Good thing I watched this before letting my 5 and 8 year olds continue watching this! lol It looks great but maybe in another few years for the younger one. You worked hard on this in depth analysis, you did great job. Thanks.
23:05 i hated this episode so much but im glad they kept the roar because i think the whole series would kinda mean nothing to me if they didn't
It’s funny I see this now because my biggest gripe with the Mufasa movie is that it retcons this show lol
It doesn’t because mufasa is an AU
Idk how that’s so hard to grasp
The thumbnail goes hard
I’m about to watch the Mufasa movie in a couple of hours and I’m watching this video to get the lore correct.
@LionGuardEdits this is a seperate canon to the live action universe dumbass
