Never has a cover of this so beautifully captured the wobbly, undersampled, goofy way this song actually plays in the PS2 Spiderman game. The dedication to reproducing the shitty sound is admirable
I really did put a lot of time into crafting that sound, so thank you! There are layers of tape emulation, desampling and bit reduction, and other warble effects layered all over both the individual tracks and then master to create that perfectly “off” sound.
@@AmieWaters the layering's definitely effective. I can normally adjust my ear to vibrato, but it's unpredictable here so everything just sounds flat or sharp to me. Definitely makes it off-kilter-y

Every time the song looped, I increased the speed of the video. Pure Chaos Energy, I love it.
I tried to have the video slowly speed up on the verses like the song in the game, but no matter how I did it, I ended up sounding worse in a bad way. I think the amount of chaos and warble in the song hit a perfect 🤌🏻 and pushing it that much further was a step too far… lol. happy you recreated the effect!

Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely would have done something like this, but no I’ve had a vibraslap since college. As a fan of Cake it was a must have instrument when I started getting into recording my own music.
