This is now on Spotify btw! open.spotify.com/track/3n2FxB...
Five years later and I'm still coming back for this video 👏👏
Me too!
my pity for you;-)@@Timescratch1
Hey I just wanted to say I love this song and I'm very glad it's on Spotify now, I listen to it a lot. This video is probably the reason I bought an MS-20 a few years ago. I watched so many videos to get a feel for it but this one really made an impact on me
Thanks so much for the kind words :)
I've never heard anyone play something this pretty on the MS-20 before; thank you.
I just got new headphones for Christmas. My old ones were half a decade old now, with a hanging side that needed to be taped. It was bad, and the quality just wasn't there anymore
When I got my new headphones, I decided that this would be the first video that I'll listen to, because it's the most calming and enjoyable experience I've ever listened to. Thank you, for making something so beautiful, that I can now enjoy to its fullest.
Wow. Thank you so much. That means a lot. Hope you have a lovely Christmas
I downloaded this and added it to my music into the "timeless cave" playlist, thank you
I'm intrigued. Mind sharing that playlist?
A quick comment to say this is beautiful, and so wonderfully captures the joy of synthesis at its core. Your attention to the harmonic depth here is just masterful, especially using the oscillators for those huge sounding fifths. Not to mention that this should serve as a go-to reference for the unique character of that MS-20 filter. Well done and thanks for sharing.
Wow thank you so much!
@@oliverdowie the more I listen the more I like. If this nudge helps you record and share some more videos or music, that's worthwhile. And link a Bandcamp or something so we can support you.
@@hellodavidryan Funny you should say that, I literally just recorded a video with my Minibrute 2S with a similar flavour haha. Will be uploaded soon. I have a Spotify release in the pipeline too :)
Oh hell yeah. I love hearing that filter resonance just sawing along and all the polyrhythmic modulations in it's wake...When you push the filters with a good delay source in the mix it's a chef's kiss situation.
Agree with this comment
Really enjoyed this. Alessandro Cortini vibes.
This track is sooo darn good!!
Beautiful and inspiring. Thank you.
That's quite the beautiful progression. I love how the synth is undeniably gritty, but incredibly dreamy as well. Nice work!
I can’t stop listening to this!
Hi Oliver! It is more than a year ago that i first found this video and the synth you convinced me to buy.... and I still keep coming back to it! A beautiful composition and magical patch! Thank you for all the music you keep posting!
There's a video called a trip through New York city in 1911 in 4k 60fps and it goes so nicely with this music
This piece was a great way to start my day!! Rise And shine 🌞!
rarely do I hear such mellow sounds from the ms-20! Well done!
Calmly composition...can listen all day. I put your sound into eventide space and enjoy your music with more reverbbbbbb. That’s so peaceful.😌
Oliver, I really love your work.
Amazing work Oliver!! Beatiful sounds!!
great atmosphere! i played it three times in a row
This is amazing!!!
So wonderfull ... wonderfull
Nice one Oliver! Beautiful I luv it.
congratulations, nice atmosphere at the ends of time :-) ciao
This is fantastic. Now I need to explain my wife why I need an MS20 mini. Hey at least its a mini! Great video!😉❤️
This is so great man. Really want to pick up one of these synths now.
This is a masterpiece. Thank you 🔥
Beautiful tones. Lovely verb ( my favorite Valhalla ! )
love this.....
Beautiful!
ok that's amazing...! I'm trying not to cry
Great tone!
Beautiful great job just ordered MS20 & SQ1 Huge Eno &
Conny Plank fan sounds like Cluster & Eno or Harmonium great stuff!!!
Hermoso! Muy creativo!!
Thanks for that lovely tune :D
Very, very good playing, incredible sound.
I love this.
Edit: I have a MS-20 mini, and the sequencer, but haven’t used it for way too long. You have inspired me to try again 😁
Beautiful little patch!
Wow really nice!
Very very nice, pleasant and melancholy. I'm redesigning the layout of my equipment, looks like getting an SQ-1 may be cool.... On top of the Ms-20 mini, I have a minibrute and microbrute which are hardwired like the ms-20 but can be patched to change signal flow....and then there's the drumbrute which I sort of regret, but with some effects maybe it can be a part of something as chilled out as this.
beautiful!!
love this meditation! thx u
beautiful song
very nice!!, I love SQ-1 (I have two) and love ms20, I have now the Behringer K2 and it is a very good MS20 version. thanks to share. greetings from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Beautiful, just about brought a tear to my eye. Best, simplest song I've heard on the mini yet. Mine is coming in the mail tomorrow, can't wait.
Wow, thank you :) You’ll love it!
brieslew I feel this so badly. My ms20 is on its way. Love the vibes
love it.
This is very nice and inspirational.
Great work and sound , i like it !
Wow, so I'm about ready to go and buy an SQ-1 basically immediately to go with my ms20. Amazing. This piece totally reminds me of Steve Roach. In particular his tracks Midnight Moon and Structures From Silence. So enveloping, awesome.
Thank you so much! I've not heard Steve Roach before, thank you :) The SQ-1 is really great. It's quite limited, but at the same time, actually quite flexible, and a lot of fun. Especially when you use both CV outs and use active step to make each CV lane different lengths!
this was fucking beautiful...I´ve wanting a MS20 for some time and today as I discover this piece of majestic sounds the opportunity to get one has presented itself and I've decided to buy it.
this is amazing
Beautiful
I have been on the fence about getting an MS20, but this just changed my mind.
Very happy to hear that!
Amazing ❤ Bravo 👏
Just bought this album on Bandcamp! Great work.
Excellent. That second osc adds so much
Matt Greer Music yeah it’s awesome hey. I love sequencing the two oscillators separately
Matt Greer Music can’t wait to try this tomorrow ❤️ amazing patch and sound
Legend
sounds amazing 🎹
This is it.
i really like that
This is great. I just got a used one. Great idea getting away from quick 16th note sequences where it sounds really repetitive.
Check out:" chasing shadows "" by jaffa jenkins 😉👍🥰
Nice, love it !
This influenced my decision to buy my Korg MS-20 Mini. I love it so much!!!
ricluvno304 so happy to hear that! ❤️
@@oliverdowie I just braved the post-riot streets of downtown Los Angeles to buy my SQ-1. I bought my MS-20 the night the madness started. Current events are shaping my musical esthetic in ways I never imagined. RIP George Floyd.
ah memories - MS20 was my very first synth back in 1979/80 - I learned synthesis using it! Sadly sold it long ago.
wow beautiful
This came up on autoplay and I mistook it for an album I purchased.... amazing work.
James Flores what album? Cuz if it sounds like this I need to hear it.
excellent!
Very chill.
EPIC stuff
Excellent
Hermoso
Really sick. Reminds me of the band Wand.
Very effective.
hopefully i get to know my ms20 the same way
Very Coritini-esque. I like it a lot
I like it
Sick
That 8 vs. 5 trick is fucking rad. I just got a Dark Time and was planning on trying something similar, 7 vs. 4 or something with two synths.
yeah.. gonna have to grab one if it goes on sale because of u.. thanks alot bro :)
If price is an issue get the K-2, sounds slightly more like an MS-20 than Korgs clone does.
Bello bravo
ITS BREATHING
nice patch!;)
Godamn the waves are so chunky!
Well done
cool&inspirational😀 time to dig out my old MS20 but I don't have a sequencer... would SQ1 be best or something like Arturia keystep?Any advice please, thanks.
Crazy
Would fit well on Another Green World or Music For Films.
This patch is absolutely gorgeous. I've been trying to reproduce it but I'm still very much a beginner at sound design (MS-20 is my first synth). I don't suppose you've got patch notes for this I could see? Thanks so much
No reply for this?? :(
@@angusica11 new as well but I'm assuming one important part is the overdrive hack you can do by feeding the signal out (top right) into the ESP input (bottom left), then feeding the output from that (there are like 4 outputs so I guess, go as far right as you want depending on what features of the ESP you want to use) into the external signal in (it's the third port on the top row I think). From there, not sure but that will give you the fuzziness I imagine. Just adjust the ESP knobs until the overdrive sounds nice. I'd say the patch is probably made using either both saws of the osc 1 triangle and osc 2 saw. Got some fuzz but I think it has a lot of hum to it. Also, with the paraphonic nature of it at some points, you can get that from the SQ1. Haven't done it myself but looking for MS20 SQ1 paraphony will give you loads of tutorials. I hope this sort of helps. I am brand new to the MS20 so I have no idea either but that's all from what I've learned so far.
Greetings from Montréal! Amazing video, are you able to share the patch?
Earthbound vibes
hey, greetings from Tokyo. I have to say this video triggered me to purchase the MS20. You created something truly beautiful. I probably played this 50 times, not even joking.
Could I ask you, how do you mane the SQ1 tempo speed to be so slow? I'm trying but it is way faster than your sequence. Thank you in advance
I too want to know^
Sorry for the slow reply! Hold down the play button while turning on the SQ-1 to enter parameter settings. The position of the sequencer mode knob allows you to change the step resolution. I believe if you set the knob to the "up-down zig-zag" setting, that sets the steps to play quarter notes. Then you just hit the power button and it'll save the settings and reboot. Look up the SQ-1 manual if you get stuck :) Thanks for the compliments too! Means a lot :)
@@oliverdowie I'm not even the original poster but ty for eventually responding^^
Nuevo.Studio i hear you man. This really sounds nice. There is another channel with very similar nice feeling. if you search in youtube MS20 mini Moog Sub 37 you find this other song. I hope you like this as well.
Avoir les Patches serai très sympa , histoire de partage ;)
Thanks Oliver, and wondering how you've managed to so much lower the tempo of the sequence? Is that the tempo knob min. setting or by an external clock?
Nice work. Get yourself a mixer and an Eventide H9 and you’ll be set!
Sound great! Original! Nice patch!
Good 🙀
is it possible to make these exact sound without the sequencer?
I really enjoyed this! Kept wondering which note you would hit :-)
This is beautiful! Have you published any music on Spotify or bandcamp?
It took you only a couple of sequence steps to create something beautiful.
👍🤖🖐 limitations = possibilities for the creative mind
I love using limitation in my music writing, it forces more creativity :)
Oliver Dowie your music just prooves it.
👍🤖✋
Hey very nice! What are your plugs parameters?
