    I just came across this video. It sucks that a degree is required to do HR. I've been in Healthcare over 20 yrs & would love a career change in this area but i have no degree or desire to get one. I feel like with the right training I could easily do this job! Side note..your office mate would drive me nuts b/c im introverted 😅. Thanks so much for sharing!

      LOL, thank you for watching! I actually don't have a degree. But I had to make my way up throughout the years and not sure you would want to start from the ground up. Public sector jobs like experience so if you're job hunting, search for key words in different position postings that you may have experience doing in Healthcare and perhaps some will be willing to take a chance on you ❤️

      Not at all! If you can already handle the demand of cust serv, you'll do fine. You can train on the job just like with many other professions. You got this.

    Hi HR fam! I work as a Senior HR Representative at my company. I got pulled in as a admin assistant and just kept moving up and tackling more things.
    Are you specifically a coordinator over FMLA/leave administration? Do you perform other HR duties as well, or is your HR dept divided up into specialists for each duty? How big is your HR team? Also, are most of this company's HR duties online/ via phone or is there any in-person aspect?

    • @TheNinaStory
      @TheNinaStory  2 года назад +2

      Hi! That's amazing, I pray you continue to level up in your career! My job functions have changed a lot since I recorded this video. I'm still in our HR Leaves dept but I don't review and process the leave of absences anymore, as we have moved to a 3rd party to do so. Now, I'm technically a HR Liaison between the outsourced company and our HR team. I have a specific agency that I track our employee's leaves and they can reach out to me for any FMLA questions. I also help out a lot with their timesheets. We also now have time to follow HR trends with their online reporting, etc. I pretty much handle everything EXCEPT for processing the FMLA. Our HR is HUGE. And it's broken up between our agencies, and different departments. Hope this helps!

    Yay!! A new work vlog and it’s a long one too, what a treat. Thank you.
    What is your favorite part about your job and what is your least favorite?
    I like how you explain what you do and your tasks throughout the day. And you are right, it does take patience. There’s a part where you enter timesheets. Is that related to the leave of absence or you take care of the regular timesheets as well?

    • @TheNinaStory
      @TheNinaStory  2 года назад +1

      Hey! Thanks for watching. I'm glad you like this style vlog with me explaining everything. 😄 Hmm, my favorite part is getting to speak to so many different ppl. Sometimes my phone calls are hilarious and it helps the day move along. Least favorite is having to chase certain employees for information. It's tedious and annoying, like I'm babysitting an adult, but it comes with the territory. We only do their timesheets relative to their FMLA. And it's certain situations where we would do them. Typically, the employee or their supervisor handles timesheets.

    Starting a buisness and I want to learn more about HR do you think I should get a certificate? And do a internship?

    • @TheNinaStory
      @TheNinaStory  9 месяцев назад +1

      That's amazing, congratulations! I agree with the certificate. You will definitely want to know all functions of HR as there are a lot under the HR umbrella. I don't think you will need to do an internship. Classes and proper full research and you should be good to get started. As you grow, perhaps you can hire an HR prof to handle the HR tasks.

    • @TheNinaStory
      @TheNinaStory  2 года назад

      Hi! I always recommend to start in some type of human resources customer service center. It's a great way to get your feet wet in multiple areas of HR and to grow from there :) I started as a temp position in a HR cust service environment and my career has flourished since then.

      Hi Nicole, when I began my HR career I had no experience at all except for the customer service aspect. Try to find job postings that are customer service related with an HR focus. This way you can grow within that company from there.

    I want to have a career in Human Resources but my degree is in Communications. Do you have any tips on how I can make that switch? It’s been so hard.

    • @TheNinaStory
      @TheNinaStory  2 года назад +1

      Hi Tanya, great question! That's great that you have a degree in Communications, you go girl! A huge role in Human Resources is communication. Communicating policies, motivation, communication as a liaison between the company and employees, etc. HR Liaisons, manager roles, employee relations, my role as HR Coordinator, etc - these are roles that need communication skills. However, these roles will require multiple years of HR experience. I suggest to look for HR generalists roles so that you can get the most experience across HR within one job position and move up the ladder from there. ❤️ Good luck

      @@TheNinaStory thank you! I actually did get a temp HR Generalist Position. Within that position I realized I enjoy the onboarding side of HR more. I start as an onboarding specialist tomorrow. I’m so excited!

    • @TheNinaStory
      @TheNinaStory  8 месяцев назад

      You can. Search for HR Assistant roles. This would be good so you can get a feel of different HR functions by assisting the Generalists or mgrs. Another option would be to Temp. Temp roles, temp-to-hire are a great way to break in and work your way up.
