    MetroCentre was a highlight of trips up north to see relatives for me! It was very unique with the themed areas and fun fair. I went a few years ago and searched for the Mediterranean and Roman areas ... It's such a shame it looks like it's become more generic over the decades.

      Totally agree. But then again, we all think that everything was better in the '90s and early '00s, right? lol.

    It looks so spooky. Its hard to imagine such a large shopping area empty. I wonder what how Meadowhall in Sheffield is coping - that one was the main place to take a day trip back 25+ years ago.

    I wish UK malls had food courts more often. The nearest one to me is Intu merry hill which is still to far away to go to often. Still my favourite place though.

    • @DeadMallWalking
      @DeadMallWalking  4 года назад

      Oh nice, it looks very similar to the Trafford Centre (which I just did a video on) from what I can see. Any idea what's going to happen to it now that intu seems to be crumbling?

    • @alexeaton4057

      @@DeadMallWalking like a few other Intu centres, it's been bought by the London based firm Ellandi and it's being managed by Savills (Same company as MetroCentre). Hopefully they'll take care of it, Intu where trying to turn it into a sterile white box.

    I remember going there during the very height of the first 2020 lockdown maybe in around May. There were almost zero shops open aside from Marks and Spencer and maybe a couple others. I walked through the whole mall and didn't run into a single other person. It was like some kind of zombie film. Eventually, I did my shopping but took a wrong turn on the way out to finding the entrance I came in (the Metro Centre is massive and parts of it were closed so it was hard to navigate) and I got lambasted by one of the security staff. Some old lady really had a go at me because I had the audacity to buy some groceries and struggle to find my way out of this labyrinthine super mall. It was cool being there (and I had a right to be there) but the one Metro staff member I ran into did not make me feel welcome at all.

    • @DeadMallWalking
      @DeadMallWalking  3 года назад

      Oh man, that's weird - I don't think, on this walk at least, I encountered any security besides a woman at the entrance I came in. Think the key back then was to be armed with a believable "oh, I'm just looking for *open shop*" and feign getting lost. Sad to hear you had a bad experience!
      If you haven't already checked 'em out, you might enjoy my virtual mall tours btw :)

    I really like the village theme, like you say the rest of the centre has become a bit sterile looking. Needs some character back

    • @DeadMallWalking
      @DeadMallWalking  4 года назад

      It's cute, no doubt, but it just feels sort of empty right now. I think The Village is at about 50% capacity - seems to have trouble holding on to tenants - and most of its traffic comes from people cutting through.

    I also subscribe to this channel and I love the channel as dead malls and why are archers in the mall looked different in uk than in the English version malls in the US. Also, the food court in the uk is like inlet restaurants inside to order than the malls that has counters to let you order in the us side malls. That’s weird. Wow, this mall looks very huge inside in the uk. Not the one at Strongsville Mall In Strongsville, Ohio.
