Sorry to dissapoint you, but rock music was never mainstream, maybe only during Beatles times (60s-70s). Of course there were some ultra famous band, like Pink Floyd, Linkin Park, AC/DC, Guns'n'Roses, but they were mostly one-timers and most selling and popular genre was always Pop / Hip-hop. Maybe even not most selling, but by overall number of listeners.
@@boker_joker You're mostly right if talking about America, but in the UK it's completely different, rock and alternative rock have always been huge, but it's been declining in recent years

@@boker_joker You're completely wrong. Rock was mainstream. There was a time where hip-hop was not as big. What is mainstream goes in cycles, one thing cannot stay on top forever
