It was very informative, thanks! Now I know what does "RIVER" mean in New Zealand!🙄 ..... Casting downstream on those tiny streams, was perhaps the best one, though in a real RIVER, casting upstream and letting the lure being drifted while keeping the slack under control, produced best for me. .. Softbaits are indeed very versatile and fun, and even less expensive kinda lure for catching them all.
Yeah they are versatile for sure. Both up and down work for me but lately the down stream has been working real well. But depends on the pool aye. Going to try do another one this weekend ;)
Here in Norway i call plastics, rapala type lures etc the big trout lures since trout here normally are around 800g before they turn into canibals and mainly gobble fish for dinner while still keeping insects, frogs, mouse etc as snack.
Yeah nice! You have some amazing trout fishing over there 🤙 in nz they call the soft lures (soft baits) and in Australia (soft plastics) terminology changes from place to place. Rapalas are (hardbodies)
The only time I would use 10lb would be for double digit browns over in nz and slap a huge dry on their head. I’d stick to 6lb for everything else. The lighter you go the more likely it gets eaten. It’s a trade off 🤙
@@DivingInTheBlue that should be about 10lb I think. Should be fine man. I run 10 on most of my light rods with the exception of one that has 6 for 2-3G lures
Thanks mate. To be honest I’m not sure what size they are, I just grab the ones that look the right size and are think gauge lol. I’m mainly using the zman ned rigs heads now. And they only have the one size hook.
@@PeterHendrie-b4n ah cool. Not sure what your regulations are like over there but here some places you can and others are fly only. But yeah the browns even small ones smash soft plastics. Rainbows normally have to be a good size before they hit lures
awesome video dude and great action the spin setup. you make it look so easy haha had so much difficult time doing this style before haha found just casting at the lake far easier haha
Oh yeah man accurate casting comes in for sure. I did heaps of bream fishing in mangroves in oz and you don’t want to loose 3 or 4 35$ lures so you learn to cast accurate lol
Yeah both man, normal rapalas work, but softbaits in 3-4in work too. Like the saltwater ones but I think the nz regulations say the lure has to be un scented. So no gulp
Okay, I'm extremely confused. So can you use soft plastics on "artificial flies and lures only" waters?? Im in colorado and under the definition is says its nonedible, nonscented, and made entirely of wood, plastic, silicone, rubber, etc. So are soft plastics legal??
There are a lot of waters that are fly only. And others with restrictions on where you can fish with lures. Lures are defined as artificial not bait and non scented. So the ones I use fit that rule. Rapala or unscented Zman are same same. Classified at spinfishing. I’ll have a dig see if I can find the description
Legal lure “any authorized artificial fly or spinner” Spin fishing “means to fish with spinner” That’s all it says but somewhere I read non scented but yeah that’s all the regs say Only further info describes where and what rivers you can fish. Eg I can fish this river for another 200m up from this section then it’s fly only.
Awesome video G. You know us Ozzie's slay the trout here on em
That you do bro lol!
These were little guys. Hope I find some decent ones next time haha
Looks lots of fun💯. I would like to try next season. I am a saltwater softbait & micro jig fisherman.
Yeah nice then this would be right for you, albeit smaller weight plastics. Good luck man 🤙
Awesome video again, bro 👌
Cheers bro
awesome action mate. looks like a mint little creek
Fish are a touch bigger than in the torrens too lol
Successful day mate.
Yeah was a good few days down there man. Managed 3 vids from it. Hoping next time there is a few big boys aroud
Great video mate, thumbs up.
Thanks bro. Cheers for the watch

Bloody ripper mate, ya make it look bloody easy aye haha
Haha cheers bro. Lure fishing for trout can catch more than the fly sometimes 🙌
Cool video just a quick question will trout go after 10lb braid

Sorry I thought you meant fly, okay so for lure 6-10 is fine. Sorry I miss read
@@AdriftFishing thanks

@@AdriftFishing Cheers bud I have never used soft plastics but I would like to give it a go next season for brownies here in Scotland 🏴

@@AdriftFishing haha well for that i use weedless wormhooks and omg that really helps a lot
Haha! That’s what I do for wash snapper lol! Yeah their good fun in the river man. Loved it
@@AdriftFishing only problem: super hard to find that suitable softbait plus that extra small worm hook here
nice video mate
Yeah got it that time ;) cheers mate glad you enjoyed it
So when you use the term lures do you mean soft baits? Like the kinds id use for snapper fishing? If so what size jighead do you recommend?
Yeah both man, normal rapalas work, but softbaits in 3-4in work too. Like the saltwater ones but I think the nz regulations say the lure has to be un scented. So no gulp
What soft plastic s do you prefer for trout
I like the zman slimswimz in the glow of smelt colour, and the Berkeley gotam minnow in smelt or perch colour.
Both work really well here ;)
What size hook do you use
Around 2 or 3 that comes with the jig head. Sometimes weedless
It sounds fun.
Sure is man. Only thing better than catching fish is catching more fish lol
wicked bro
Cheers bro.
i tried a paddle tail lure and caught two nice rainbow trout
Yeah they sure like them aye!
Nice
Cheers mate!
