What nails did you use for the fascia board? Looking at replacing all of my fascia boards, because a lot of them are rotted or the ones that go behind the gutters are about 2" short of going to the roof. They used 1x10's instead of 1x12's.
Hey ... Great vid. You've got the teacher gene. Your demo was broken down step by step but even better your keynoting helped me retain the information far better than most vids do. Subscribed and will be checking out your other vids!! Thanks again
Nice work. ...um. The ladder. You need a taller one. My ladders all have two stickers on the top two steps. The second from the top says "suspended". The top one says "fired".
Great video! I have exposed rafter tails, no soffits just bird holes for attic ventilation. Also no sub fascia just a single board. Not sure if it will make this job easier or more difficult but got a lot of rotted fascia at my corners. Thanks for the video!
Why type of nail gun did you use? A framing nail gun? I am having a hard time finding one that doesn't require an air compressor - we just don't have the room for storage
I run into a lot of fascia board that has a 1/2" groove that the wood soffit locks into. Im trying to find a better solution than shallow cutting each board with the circular saw. Any thoughts?
A router!! This does take a bit of an investment as you need a router and router table. If you come across these enough the investment makes sense. It's super fast and makes the outcome so much better!! 😁
Great video! Was that facia glued down, it felt like it? Don't know if i missed it, was that a brad or framing nailer? What size nails? What type of blade was used on the oscillating tool? Thanks for the feed back!
I've never experienced fascia being glued down. It is a framing nailer. I always go with 3-in nails. 3-in nails are longer than what you need for nailing fascia into sub fascia, but in the case that you have to do sub fascia repair, sometimes the longer nails are helpful. I always use Diablo nail embedded wood blades. Nothing else will be worth your money tbh
This is a good video. I just recently bought a 1948 fixer upper and I need to replace the fascia. This video definitely helped me understand what I’m in for.
Looking at how to fix rotten fascia and soffit where garage meets breezeway and has seamless gutters. Sounds like it will be tricky if not impossible to save gutter in order to fix rot. Had roof replaced in 2021 and they didn't address rotten fascia, that's probably why. Any thoughts how to make a bigger expense without having to replace gutter?
Typically not on the roofer to do fascia repair tbh. It's a siding or carpentry project. You HAVE to get the gutter out of the way and if that means spending a little more money to replace the gutter and do it right so be it Best of luck!!
Depends on the amount of damage and the structure of your home. This type of work can be dangerous, require years of experience, and thousands of dollars in tools. $3500 for 10' of fascia is expensive. 200' of fascia, sub fascia, and soffits repaired and painted is reasonable. It just depends on the situation.
About the best video I have seen on fascia/sub-fascia repair, very thorough! Now all I need is a video or 2 showing me an easy way to get the gutter out of the way- without damaging it- so that I can repair the fascia.
So i replaced the fascia on the back of my house myself. Let a contractor do an 8 foot piece on side as I needed to hire someone to paint area over garage anyway. He screwed the 8 foot piece of fascia in at each end. Nothing in between. Should be nails or screws every two feet in rafter ends. MF this is why I hate to hire people. Sure it looks fine from the ground but I wonder how long until it warps.
The sub fascia is holding this board in place FIRM. I use hot dipped galvanized nails. This is cedar. Everything I did here will make this fascia repair last for 40 years.
You should've primed the entire board first
thank you for sharing the knowledge, I have to tackle this soon.
Your frickin awesome! Thanks for the video!
Good job!
What size nails were you using in the nail gun? What gauge gun?

How much is a job like this costs?

It's just perfect, like a surgeon, and very well explained. Thanks for letting us know so many details. Another master online.

What video game is this?

What kind of nail did you use on cedar?

I want to know if a contractor should be charging me $3500 for this??

Very nicely done
What about masonite fascia?
I would use a bonding paint

Do you have gutters with screws/hidden hangers OR gutters with the gutter nails/spike and ferrule?
@@chappellgutter Could we get the answer to both please? :-)
