@@4weeksleave yeah a sat phone is always a good idea. That being said….. the Simpson has been like the Hume Highway this year, so you wouldn’t have to wait long for help. But if it were a life or death emergency situation then yeah, sat phone 👍
Seeing you all at Goyders Pillar reminded me of our trip in 2005 where Lindsay Bookie took us out to the Pillar and shared some stories. The one I remember most was he talked about why aboriginal people would never climb Goyders Pillar and we were thinking it was for the same reasons as Uluru .... but when asked, he simply said you'd be stupid to climb the Pillar because you might fall off. We had a fantastic 2 days with Lindsay, his aging mother and other family.
yea used to carry heat packs in the early days now with a good set up hardly a need for it, mind you this was the continuous coldest night trip I ever had pretty much 7 nights well below 0
Sitting here in Sydney in lockdown I'm so glad I managed to get this trip in, watching it again brings me right back to it. What are you doing to keep occupied?
Good video Stephan Sounds like you need to shout yourself and your kids some Onkaparinga blankets. We are out of lockdown in Queensland. I’m sorry to hear how hard things are down there mate. I have two brothers down there who are in lockdown and I can empathise. We are all back at work and mobile. Next week I’ll be driving a new Isuzu FSS550 4x4 from Brisbane to Weipa then another from Cairns to Weipa.
@@AlloffroadAu A good one to keep in mind - not on any maps that I know of, but apparently joins onto station tracks before emerging out at the station proper. Think it was pushed in by locals about 3 years ago for easy access to Lake Caroline. But, if it gets no traffic then it will blow in and be lost again, given how the sand can obliterate tracks in time.
I do time-restricted eating so usually only eat 4 hours a day and that means main meals, but I absolutely love the Radix Berry Brekky often have that as Desert or if I cheat.
When using the old style HEMA maps, does the device have a pointer to display your location on the map? Don't understand why new HEMA doesn't include the detail of old... Lost value!?
Great thanks, is that using the HEMA app via an iPad? Or is there another app you use to view the old style HEMA maps with time travel arrow etc? Many Thanks
Thought paddy melons were edible as long as you take out the black seeds. The white flesh is edible according to one of Malcolm Douglas’ videos where he is travelling with a group of indigenous Australians and they seem to eat them minus the seeds. Great video. Enjoyable
yeaI'm not so sure of that I did look in to it a bit and the overwhelming census is they are not edible, but there also seem to be a few different versions of them.
Great video. I've yet to cut a video for our hay River trip but yours was great. Never seen water in Lake Caroline. Those corrugations north of baton Hill are the worst! Can I ask where that Ridge is that you drone footaged. I don't recall seeing it.
Of all the things NOT to scrimp out on surly has to be tyres & suspension (in my opinion), especially on a trip like this.
Good video Stefan 👍
yes mate 100% I personally would never have taken the D1 (prepared and set up as it was) with 5 people on a remote Desert trip.
Agreed, tires and suspension! .....and maybe that sat phone is a good idea for future remote travels as you never know what might happen

Always the most brilliant and current advise from you Stefan ....
Hope you all had a great trip
Thanks 👍
Nice one Stephan , yep super lucky to have that trip planned just before lockdown
Yes it was!

what a privilege and amazing experience Phil, thanks for sharing.
Oh yeah, hot water bottle + reusable heat packs when camping.... Thanks again for a great vid Stefan.

29 from the club in 10 cars missed out the Hay River track by 3 days owing to lock down. Thanks for the video Professional as usual.
Sorry to hear that
Fantastic series and advice as always
Much appreciated!
Sitting here in Sydney in lockdown I'm so glad I managed to get this trip in, watching it again brings me right back to it. What are you doing to keep occupied?
Watching your videos......... although not in lockdown here in the west
Once again a great video! I truly enjoy your videos!
thank you very much
Such a good trip and a nice video. I was waiting for it and enjoyed it a lot.
Thanks a ton
Some beautiful drone footage Stefan, thanks for sharing mate. Looks like lockdown will take a while in Sydney.
thank you very much, sadly yes I think we can be happy if we have a Christmas holiday somewhere
Stefan get yourself a Bivi Bag and your trouble will be over, have been using one for over 20 years.
I have one Carlo but having some lower back issue don’t sleep well in swags, Bivis bags so stretcher tent is most comfortable to me.
Good video Stephan

envy ;-) enjoy the trip mate glad that you guy's can move
Hi Stefan, just wondering if you saw any sign of the track heading east from Lake Caroline that links to Ethanuga station?
Ethabuka Station? No didn't but also didn't look for it is there a track towards it? that sounds interesting

Radix or Campers Pantry, which is your preferred option mate?
hard question, both so different, probably Radix if I had to choose one.
@@AlloffroadAu going to order a couple of each I think. Tried another brand and wasn't a fan. Do you mainly eat them only for dinner?

yes mate shows your location and estimated travel time arrow. Yep a lot what Hema does nowadays does not make sense.

Did you say $220 for permit to travel Hay River? Crikey I'm staying home. 😲
yes, I no issue with that to support the indigenous community much better then no access.
Isn't it illegal to carry diesel/fuel inside the cabin?
petrol yes diesel no, but I would not carry either inside the vehicle.
