They are beautiful horses. I came across pictures of them years ago and I fell in love with them. Would love to see one in person. Maybe one day I will.
🌺🤗Beautiful thank you to you both for showing us such beauty and the Stillwater Farm .... thank you for all your labor of love and sharing it with us 🌴🌺💃
There is not another breed of horses that are so intelligent, loyal and calm. I am so happy to see the gypsy cob gaining its rightful position in the world of horses. I love my two beyond imagination.
You have the most beautiful horses I have ever seen! And their temperment of kind and caring ways , and versatility in disciplines mske them the all around greatest horses in the world! Well done! Thanks for sharing this amazing breed with us! Not just outstandingly beautiful horses ,but so loving and caring and eager to learn ! This is my dream horse. Actually getting to meet them is going on my "bucket list"! I'm 62, so I had better get a move on and meet them. I live in Pa. There are 2 Gypsy Vanner Stables here in our state but yhey aren't your horses!!! You have the cream of the crop when it comes to this breed, and its your horses I'd love to meet. Maybe somedsy, I truly hope to make it down there to see that poetry in motion ! Thank you once again for sharing the pride and joy you have in these wonderful horses, and the care you take in breeding quality, not quantity!! Have a great day!👍👋👋👋😁💖🙋🏻♀️💖🐎
Such a uniquely beautiful and special breed! I think they are gorgeous but after viewing several videos about them, am now convinced as to their speciality. Congratulations on your beautiful estate and breed.
Oooooo I want one so bad!!! I've wanted a Gypsy for so long. SOMEDAY!! They are THEE PERFECT HORSE!!! I don't think I could pick a better breed to have my kids learn to ride on. I want my kids to grow up riding like I did. These amazing horses are just... magical and magnificent.
I am new to everything meaning I don't know how to ride a horse, take care of one, and most definitely can not afford one. I've known about the gypsy vanners for about 3 or more years. Never seen one other than on the internet. You both are so blessed to have these magnificent horses to breed. Your care for these horses and your protection of them should be applauded. Thank you for sharing your horses with me.
Keep your dreams alive, we've known many people who were captivated by a breed, and maybe it took them 20 years to own one or more, but they never gave up on their dream!
The Irish Cob (or Gypsy Vanner in the US) had always been one of my favorite horses❤️, Irish is also in my DNA. They originated from a Thoroughbred, Connemara pony and an Irish Draft horse. The look of a draft without the size. I had a Shire that was broke to ride and drive so I can say from experience, for riding, esp for a longer distance, downsizing for most ppl was a good thing, haha.
I wished I lived near you. I would like to get to know these horses and learn how to take care of them. I am not against cleaning up after them and learning how to groom them, Just being close to them and getting to know them would be a joy. Thanks!
They are a smashing breed to be around, gentle, and friendly, keeping those long feathers clean especially in the British muddy winter time is a task though!
I am very happy that someone here in the stages is breeding to maintain the true character and size of the Gypsy Vanner! Have seen some bred here in Michigan that are barely 14 hands or pony size. Still beautiful, but not bred true to the breed. Thank you for caring to preserve the quality of the breed.
Gypsy cobs come in many shapes and sizes, for pulling Vardors they need to be 14 1 upwards, you see a lot of them here in the UK, only really just become a breed, before they have always been known as 'The gypsy Horse' my little rescue is 13 hh, he has the feathers and the attitude which is good enough for me.
I love friesians I love Gypsy Horses I love all the words in the world cuz I'm a horse lover and because I loved you please I love Clydesdales and I when I grow up I'm going to have the horses in the whole entire world
Actually, with their kind and willing temperament and personality, they have been called a "Golden Retriever with Hooves" but I clearly understand your analogy, black labs are also special.
That would seem like a perfect analogy.. It seems they are perfect first time horses for young people and then as we get older ..in 60s perhaps also a strong contender..I'm so impressed..
@@HorseTVGlobal the reason i likened them to Black Labs is because I am 72 years old, and have owned 4 Female Pure Bred Black Labs. And all four of them had the word Gypsy in their names. So they were already tugging at my heart strings.
Robin, I am a 62 years old and always loved horses. Now since I am older I'm looking for a very gentle, calm horse. How much land do you need for this size horse and what are your prices.
You have Bouviers and I do also (since 1998). Do you have contact between your Bouviers and horses? If so, how did you go about introducing them to each other. I'm interested in a Vanner for all the reasons you stated (it's all about a relationship)!
Thanks for your question. The Gypsy horses have a profuse mane, tail and feathers that may need to be trimmed, tails especially so they don't step on them and tear out their tails. Manes are usually left long and flowing. Their body hair also grows quickly, we have to body clip ours three times throughout the year.
You know, I cant help but scratch my head trying to figure out what the fuss is about banners. I grew up in northern England and regularly saw travellers with the horses parked on road sides with the ponies grazing nearby. They would stay for a couple of days before being moved on by the local police. Their ponies were traded by the hundreds at the various gypsy fairs held throughout the region, they sold for very modest prices, and were used for hacking, light carting etc; they weren't considered anything special to be honest, they still aren't over there.
I wish I had the funds to aquire one of the gypsy king's dependents, but I do not have the money or space. I have aspurgers and would love to own one of these beauties
If you go to the Gypsy Vanner Website and to Members by Location, you can see who is near you in North America. vanners.org/pdf_post/membership-list-by-location/
Gypsy horses were bred for good temperaments, since much of their genetic makeup is cold blooded draft horses, they have an easy going personality and enjoy the company of people, be it adults or children.
I know this is a rare in usa and one exemplar costs even 25000$ !!!........ ....what other breeds outside usa cost that much ?............I also know phrygians.....
That's probably because half their genetic makeup comes from the Shire and Clydesdale, both of which are draft breeds. The Dales Pony was introduced to the mix to give it a smaller and sweeter head and not the Roman nose that many draft breeds exhibit.
Hi Tom- The hair actually performs a valuable function in keeping flies out of the wet membranes of the horses eyes. The forelock is usually pulled to the side when showing, but when out grazing or relaxing, the hair serves a valuable function in preventing insect damage to their eyes- any horse's eyes. Horses without a naturally long forelock can't get the same protection again flies and often have to wear a fly mask for protection.
There is a lot I don't know about horses . I don't ride or have one . I do know that people who breed for confirmation in dogs for instance , breed for certain exaggerated looks that prove harmful to the dog . I know many Cobs have physical problems due to confirmation . I'm wondering how long forelocks would be on a wild breed that was never bred for a certain look . Prezwalski's have short forelocks I believe . They have been on the earth longer than any breed man has bred , I would think . Nature must not have dictated a need for them to evolve with long forelocks .
@@tommurphree5630 Hi Tom- There are a number of breeds who have naturally prolific hair growth, Gypsy horses, Friesians, Morgans and others have naturally thick manes, tails and forelocks; we've also had horses that their manes and forelocks never seem to grow. A long forelock helps keep insects and flies out of their eyes, which is useful for eye health. When you see horses wearing a fly mask, chances are they don't have a naturally long forelock to protect their eyes.
@@HorseTVGlobal Sorry , I'm not buying it . I think people bred horses to have long forelocks and manes . As I said , look at the Prezwalskis or however you spell it . Nobody bred them with short manes and forelocks . Obviously they did not need them , because they did not evolve .
@@tommurphree5630 I'm not trying to sell you anything Tom, you said yourself you had no experience with horses, while I've owned, bred and have competed with horses for over 50 years. I don't know of anyone who breeds for a forelock. Responsible breeders breed for conformation, a functional shoulder, hip and croup, neck, feet, etc. A poorly bred horse cannot function in the same way as a well-bred horse because their conformation won't allow them to do something that well bred horses can achieve. Why does one horse have a smooth trot gait while another in the same breed has a bone jarring trot? It's conformation and the way they are put together. Every responsible breeder wants to breed a better horse with each new generation. Friesians, Andalusians, Lusitanos all have rigid conformation requirements and must go through inspections, measurements and certification before they can breed forward. Hair would be the last thing considered in breeding a horse forward I assure you, unless someone is breeding for hair above conformation in which you have horses with poor conformation as the result of it, and move quickly down the food chain. The Gypsies are a combination of several breeds, the Clydesdale, The Shire, The Friesian and the Dales Pony, all combining to bring out a smaller draft breed with a sweeter head than most draft horses. The Gypsy combines the characteristic of these four breeds and whatever came with it in the process, including hair. There will always be some who might try to breed for hair only, and people who only care about hair in the buying process above everything else- but true horse people breed for conformation and function above all else. You cannot ride hair as they say.

The Friesian is also part of their genetic makeup which may be the contribution to the profuse mane and tails.
