    Do you have to be in root to make this work? Does the same command work for Mac? This was really helpful thanks

    • @Liv4IT
      @Liv4IT  4 года назад +1

      Normally u should execute it as root

    • @user-sr7fo5fe6x
      @user-sr7fo5fe6x 3 года назад +1

      alwasys execute as root or " su - " otherwise you won't have permission for some executions... but, danger, you can do a lot of damage very quickly if you do not understand what you are doing. I've dd'ed / (root) and /home (my home directory) TWICE as su - check twice before executing commands.

    Thanks for the video. İ found 4 badblocks so how can i repair them

    • @Liv4IT

      You can just replace it by Null values so no data will be written in it

    Thanks for the video. Could make a video of what to do if one finds badblocks (please). My situation is that I found some and the issue is that at the moment I can't write a partition table (yet). So if you have any suggestion it will be helpful. Greetings

    Can't get the command ssm list dev to wokr, as this got something to do with running ubuntu on windows, WSL?

  • @luutoo3649
    @luutoo3649 3 года назад

    You say that I can use command "ssm list dev" then you tell me that that "ssm" stands for "system storage manager", very good!
    But when you say that you can always use command "fdisk -l", you did not say what "f" or "l" stands for? :(

    Using Ubuntu on windows and it can't see my HDD connected. it also says ssm not found, when inputted. fdisk -l doesn't list my HDD that was formated to ext4 on a NAS, my God, takes all day just to check bad sectors on an old 3TB hard drive and still no success from these videos

      @Liv4IT yeah or a live boot that just runs it?
      I'm setting up a TrueNAS server with 8 used 4TB SAS drives.
      My cousin works in a data center, and they switch the drives out after xx about of hours ran.
      They should be good, but he told me to scan them.
      and i am LOST on using Linux to even run this test.

      @@Mr_Meowingtons I would advise you first to check it using comany special Software every disk company has that free on their Website like westerndigital ... u can just install that on windows and put the used drives as extern disk then scan it it will Zell u if the disk fail the scan or not

      A very small number of bad sectors is not necessarily a problem. But if the number of bad sectors is increasing (especially on spinning rust), or you have run out of replacement sectors (on either mechanical or SSDs), failure may come soon
