All riven, kith and kin, all given for this, a never-ending riddle, my flesh worn, heart betorn, mind, by mem'ry, begyved... As I wander, cold and immane whither now my mother, my flame. And along the coils of light, the life I desire. "Anon must we part" Words like a dart, red and dire, eyne that accoyed with their heat. O! How I have seen the Dragon's Dogma! Unbound by time, all-binding, grand design, land and skies and seas yearn, finish the Cycle of Eternal Return. When thou pulledst this boy from the sand, didst thou see him bearded, with brand? And within the coils of light, when our blades took flight- What future didst thou envision? As I keep this frozen demesne, whither now my mother, my flame; And along the coils of light, the life I desire. (english) xD
I love this version of it. The original is still my favourite. But oh my gosh it is pretty close considering how good the song actually is in general. I wish more people sang it :) its just amazing :)
This is amazing, honestly I kinda wished this was the credits theme for Dark Arisen The original Coils of Light is a favorite of mine but it plays when you are desperately trying to beat Daimon so we can't even pay attention to the very important lyrics, lyrics that are beautifully sung by Ingrid Gerdes on this version.
Can't finish it my game buged and I dealt no damage to the final boss and the final ghost town took me 1 day .... I was lvl 200+ I think ... Imagine my pain

PhoenixWrightOnanoko yes me too, the first time I played DD I was like "Damn, it's too fucking hard. That's it, not playing it ever again." Then, a few months later, I decided to play it again and like you, I'M FUCKING ADDICTED! ALL HAIL CAPCOM!
I got it originally on the Xbox 360 and later for PC on Steam, it's an amazing game, it's a shame the PS3 users got the worst port of it really. Also, yeah, I agree, the game is hard as BALLS! After I beat Dormin, I couldn't fucking kill anything, it just kept thrashing me so I got out of Bitterblack Isle so I could stop being a salty ass mofo and actually feel like I wasn't a lil bitch XD
People, it's NOT the vocals that made this version sound "cheerful and butchered." This whole arrangement, from the chords to percussions, was meant to be lighter than the original. Yes, her vocals were considerably louder with more focus than the rest of the instruments but that's only because they were written so light and lacked strong orchestrals to back them up and give you your beloved original version. This is a light accoustic arrangement and if you don't like it stick to the OST. Ingrid's voice powerful performance here was honestly the best thing about it. If anything, she carried everything and conveyed more emotion than her chill accompaniment, with all due respect to Makino, Livan and Noriko.
Art Of Chill in fairness, that story does end with him being freed and passing away with his beloved at his side. I gave this video a second chance when I tried to look at it as sort of an epilogue song and it's grown on me
Yu-go Bahamut aint quite trippin, But It is a thing of Maddness and passion. Ice Age compession Can always Improvise Fires Truest nature in dark Passion
She's a great singer, but the song was not meant to be happy like that, it betrays the intent and purpose of the song. Not so much her fault as it was the people who told her to sing it like that, I have no doubt that she could sing it sorrowfully if she knew that was how it was supposed to be.
You know it's okay to perform a song differently, right? The original exists still. There's room enough in the world for more than one version. This performance has no effect on the original.
You can interpret songs in different ways for some songs, like Johnny Cash's Big Iron, however the lyrics of this particular song was definitely aimed at something a bit more forlorn.
The song was fine as it was, it didn't need an extra "flair" to it. I think the "modernization" took away from the song's overall mood. Still a beautiful song, but I think I'll stick to the original.
Really it needed a lot less power in the voice, or just a different singer. At first I thought it was butchered to all oblivion but it's alright... Great voice but not for Coils of Light
fucking hell she butchered it lol. Nevermind the original track she isn't even paying attention to how the people are playing behind her, completely unsyncronised with the feel of the song.
I think it has more to do with them forcing the classical guitar as the melody. He seems to be the one going all over the place. Hate more that they cut the violin at the start, best part imo
Honestly, I kinda hate this version. She's trying too hard, and it almost sounds like a Christina Aguilera song. I don't think her voice and the way she's singing the lyrics captures the perspective, experience and energy of Ashe/Daimon, who's the 'speaker' here. The original song is sung by a boy, and that makes sense, because it sounds like young Ashe is singing it. There's an innocence to the boy's voice, which again, is a theme that shows up in the lyrics. I think that while this lady is probably a distinguished singer; she's simply not conveying the essence of the song, to me at least. If you want to justify it by saying it's meant to be a lighter version, then that's fine, but it becomes a completely different experience. Then it's almost like her singing is trying to overpower the meaning of the lyrics, pretty much rendering the entire point of the song moot. I think she isn't connecting with any of it, she's just trying to impress the audience with her voice, and she's not really feeling what is being communicated in the original version. No, I don't like it.
I sort of agree with you, brother. I like this lady's performance of Eternal Return, but I feel she falls short on this one. It almost sounds like they're trying to make it a jazz cover. The original was amazing.
They masterworks, all. You can't go wrong.
I love it when the song starts when you fight Daemon, and Olra starts talking to you. There's something so melancholic and sad about the whole thing
It is a tragedy after all.
can't wait to hear the music on the new game
Dragon Dogma
Coil of light or into free? Either way I had the same reaction.

Excellent singer, although the mood of the song is suppose to be very morbid and rather sad, but I digress. This was a very good performance.
This is amazing, honestly I kinda wished this was the credits theme for Dark Arisen

Ugh, this version made the song jolly. This is supposed to be a sad song about how a warrior fell from grace and became a trapped as a demon.
it still sounds sad towards the end

What’s the name of the singer?
Ingrid Gerdes

her voice is very beautiful
Eric Downing Maybe she is just happy to get an opportunity to sing such a great song as Coils of Light.
If that's the case she is a bad performer. I'd rather go with Eric's thought on it.
The Japanese version is not sorrowful.
You know it's okay to perform a song differently, right? The original exists still. There's room enough in the world for more than one version. This performance has no effect on the original.
The performance was a bit too cheerful. It's supposed to be a sad song.
I agree, though you should be able to interpret songs in different ways, and I really enjoyed this version aswell :D
You can interpret songs in different ways for some songs, like Johnny Cash's Big Iron, however the lyrics of this particular song was definitely aimed at something a bit more forlorn.
She killed the song with it's magic ! shame on you :(
A fair effort but it seems like she couldn't figure out how she wanted to sing this. I was very confused.
The song was fine as it was, it didn't need an extra "flair" to it. I think the "modernization" took away from the song's overall mood.
Still a beautiful song, but I think I'll stick to the original.
The OST is much more better
Have no idea why she didnt sing the in-game version. The kid vocals take away from the english version for me.
it needed to be sad not happy and jolly and there were squeaky high nots not low deep notes then her band looked confused but it was still good
Shes oversinging a bit.
Really it needed a lot less power in the voice, or just a different singer. At first I thought it was butchered to all oblivion but it's alright... Great voice but not for Coils of Light
Sounds like it got butchered to me. This is a melancholic song, not a showy, "look at me I can sing high notes." The original is significantly better.
fucking hell she butchered it lol. Nevermind the original track she isn't even paying attention to how the people are playing behind her, completely unsyncronised with the feel of the song.
