You need two waves to win a heat.. on Griffins first wave the judges were unanimous. The low was 8 the high was 8.5 average was 8.33. But he also got the highest second wave 5.5 to Medinas 3.33.
Sucks that the wind picked up but honestly this was medinas heat to win he was the best surfer all comp and even though it’s not the best fiji he would be the favorite in a windy left with his ability and just could not get it done. But he also lost because GC has a really good backhand he’s won portugal twice because of how consistent and smooth it is
Colapinto has absolutely zero skills on left barrels; messy and poor conditions level down both surfers. Such an important heat should be held in the best possible conditions.
@@felipeneves2599 Not true, wouldn’t say he’s absolutely one of the best but actually better than most in trickier situations. Like I said portugal he had the best backhand tubes of the whole event this year. Definitely not a pipe favorite I can agree with.
Totally! I think hed convinced himself that he cant beat griff on turns alone which isnt true. Plus he raced ahead of at least one solid barrel in favor of an air attempt. He should get back to fundamentals and allow the wave to speak to him and dictate his approach, not the other way around.
Looking this battle I really understand for what witch atheric is on charge. Medina wants to do big and crazy things 😅 and colapinto did good, took good wave, make his score and won. But I was suporting medina in each wave 🎉

Griffin often looks amateur and not pro but he looked great in these horrendously trashy conditions. Those backhand carves were so damn smooth/clean. Medina obviously going airs to win or lose. He made 0 airs on the better waves and the tiny wash wave was the idea but way too small.
Gabriel wasn't the only one who was robbed. Fioravanti should have passed with that insane tube against Griffin, who only received an 8.33 (remembering that he needed the same 8.5 to pass). Then these little judges come along and give an 8.5 in a bureaucratic wave like that. They must be joking!
Worst call ever....starting quarter finals on those conditions, then call off...Very suspicious. i know, the surfer must face any condition, but that call certanly favored Griffin
How come the ocean was good to go, coincidentally on the heat of the historically best in Fiji (still in the comp) and suddenly after 30 minutes, it wasn’t. Wow, this duel is so boring. Only people who really like surfing would watch this. For me, who is a fan of the Brazilians, the only cool thing was Medina's aerial. The WSL is rubbish, the finals are rubbish. The ASP was much better and the title really went to the best surfer at the end of the year. If the WSL wants to increase its audience with this type of evaluation and ratings for the surfers, the WSL can keep dreaming, because it's going to have a nightmare, lol. It's going to be a loss, because it's really boring to watch this. We want big wave action. Guys spend 10 minutes floating around, waiting for a wave.
