- The Audi RSQ e-tron is one of the most ambitious competition cars ever created, and certainly the most technically complicated vehicle ever to tackle the Dakar. This 671bhp range-extender EV off-road monster is the motorsport equivalent of a moon shot. And there’s a lot to get your head around, so let Top Gear Magazine’s Ollie Marriage be your guide.

Largest RC I have ever seen 👀🔥
Yep
Exactly
More like a petrol powered diesel locomotive. They also use a Diesel engine to drive a electic generator and then power the wheels with electric motors with the power from the diesel engine. This is basically the same thing but not on tracks.
Thats because you cant really have a gearbox or a clutch on a train because of the huge weight of a train. The clutch would just burn in like a Minute. So they use that method to basically have a 'electric clutch'
@@qwertz4035 well damn learnin something new indeed 👌🏿🔥
Air cooling for a damper is insane
I like how they shut off that valve only at 8:15, where it was making noise for the entirety of the video before 😂
big thanks to the man at 8:16
LOL yesss!
Another showcase of audi’s out of the box approach to racing
Its basically a petrol powered diesel locomotive.
@@qwertz4035 and they were able to win some stages with this! That's is really impressive. They have to repair the suspension because it is very unreliabile.
@@TheEryk03 To be fair, Al Attiyah went full cruise mode since he has so much time buffer since the first stage.
@@TheEryk03guess they didn’t fix it enough because this years Dakar, also broke dampers and control arms. Only Ekstrom finished the Dakar.
Excellent tech discussions and combined with so much of the workings exposed when the body kit is off, makes a really great video. Thanks
Exactly
Interesting. If the IC engine and generator is packed together, doing work on the IC engine should be easy because the whole package can be taken out of the car easily since there is no mechanical connections to the car other than mounting and electrical cables.
Yeah it’s a clever piece of design, That’s the whole idea though it’s much more efficient for a team to swap out and entire power train then strip one down to repair an issue
amazing piece of design, and it can use a lighter weight ICE because it can be optimized for a specific rpm with no regard for response or power bands.
Nissan: first time?
@@KaypangAsli ...compared to this, Nissan made some ugly shits & gave the reputation to making ev look bad.
This was fascinating. & I don't think there's a race more fun than this
Baja is rad.
as 90's kids, I'm glad this tamiya 4wd comes to real size and alive!
Fantastic to hear John explain the project with such detail and passion as well, it's a long video but I was hooked. 😁
The shots of the car on the terrain is like something out of a sci-fi movie.
Suspension electric regen would be amazing for this.
"That's a car?"
"Exactly"
Incredibly efficient design. A simplified version of this would be a huge seller for the Jeep/Bronco offroad enthusiasts.
Sounds like the ultimate Prius!
Great vid, loved the technical knowledge of both
This is the kinda engineer I love just mind blowing and turning the convention mind set upside down
Great video - so good to have a presenter who knows vehicle engineering. Thank you.
A fascinating insight from Audi and Top Gear. Proper engineering!
Why the guy have to be so energetic doing the interview!! 😂😂
Cocain is a hell of a drug
Electric sound like it's screaming but it's amazingly
it's a fantastic machine and thrown together in a remarkably short time...
I know it might be loud in some areas of that tent, but someone should tell Olly that he really doesn't need to shout into the mic.
and you could tell some of the guys in the tent were getting antsy about not being able to work on a part of the car because of where they were shooting.
a sticky situation, because you wanna cover the whole car, but you don't wanna hold those guys up.
That was a great breakdown of the car. Thanks 🙏
What an amazing machine!
I want one for road use 😉
So much tech and power generation in such a small space. Amazing.
Fascinating engineering! Would be nice if there’s an official Lego model for this. Even better if it has RC function
Lego is terrible for cars, vehicles are not built brick by brick! I never understood the fascination with Lego technical kits. Better an authentic Tamiya model with E-motors and RC!
i love the way he says “exactly”
The Audi RS Q Etron is FANTASTIC i love the Rally/Off Road feel of the design, i love it, its large, beefy but has those sleek lines and angular panels.
The combo of black and red with all of its decals make it striking against snowy or the desert terrain. And in some countries i can't believe they let you drive it on roads haha.
What a fantastic video!!! Great job everyone involved in the project 👍🏽👍🏽
This was awesome! Hats off!
Hats off, best car I've ever seen driving.
It sound exactly like my old RC dune buggy I had when I was kid. That + Electric Lawn Moaner sound behind! LOL
This video is very informative. I learned something new.
They need an unlimited class to allow engineers to push the limits.
So it's Audi's take on the Hammerhead Eagle i-Thrust?
Clever... It sounds like "TYCO's Bandit"... Nostalgia...
Absolutely incredible 👍👍
Wow amazing work from Audi!
Great video.. great work..
I had that 30 years ago. It was remote controlled. It was smaller though but made exactly the same noice 🤔
Art of engineering.
Awesome car and interview. 👍
That was very interesting. Very!
this is so fascinating to listen to!
Very nice car.. imagine seeing this on the road
Best use case, extremely efficient. The combination of a combustion generator with electric motors
Brilliant !
They finally made a full size rc stadium truck! haha thing sounds exactly like my rc trucks
Yeah yeah ...yeah yeah ....yes yes exactly
8:14 thank you
The thickness of that solid carbon fibre floor!
That’s one heckuva VW!
Excitement of the accomplishments technically and physically
outstanding
Do they even know how cool their job is? I mean the posibility to build like the Childhood-Over-Drea-car. In reality. I get exceited when I see this video. And maybe in my lifetime I can see it in reality. But to actually BUILD and maintain this. - Wow. Sooo cool.
the damper things, is it allow to convert movement to charge the battery also by regulation??
this interesting how it always move while hit the tracks
Ridicolous!
I don't know if I see it on audi concept presentation in carshow. But I like it..
Yea!
Lol let the engineer speak! Awesome video
Listening too this made me want Italian food.
Casually saying: Sainz is the driver. That dude is living the dream
That's one big RC car m8
Wow great~~
very very interesting
Wow amazing 😲✌️
That's one big RC car 👀
🔥💥✨✌🏻🤠, the Audi gentleman member team accent impressed me as much as John Vick's movie 🎥, 😂😂👍🏻👌🏻✌🏻 🙏🏻 God bless you man !
Diz haz ta b fly air kicks!
That's a lot of information 😶🤯
Life could be a race to have enough technology to sustain life in any situation. Cross Country 1 BIG RACE family!
Okay now this is a proper electric SUV
What remote do you use?
Exactly counter - 5667,88123,99141 times
That's ludicrous
Exactly
one year ago and finaly win their first dakar🔥
amazing
Love this thing. Yeah, a little extra weight, you know an engine! Too bad Carlos had to pull out this year.
Imagine seeing a road going EV version of this. Take my money .
Isn't it just the same as the Odyssey 21 used in Extreme E? Sainz already familiar how it works since he also competed in Extreme E and they even raced in the deserts of Saudi Arabia. So he really does have an advantage right?
Beyond 5 years you will win the racing 🏁
Makes me proud as an Audi owner. Audi Quattro took Audi to the top. And now they they are back. When can I buy the street legal version?
Yeah
I'd like to thank the mech who switched off that hiss machine at around 8 min mark 😏
This Audi guy’s accent is like - The guy she tells you not to worry about 😂 .. 👨🏽🎨: Issa Ok Madam thissa way to me abodeeee massage💆🏽♀️onaa miaaa👨🏽🎨
Look at that fin on the rear windshield. Control? Why the fin?
#dtm running @const rpm for #etron is genius
New kind of motor racer
True Legend: 8:12
I just remembered my toy RC car when i was a kid.
Interesting Perez also works as a engineer for Audi. 👍
So it works like a diesel electric locomotive
fantastično
8:15
An suddenly, PEACE
Shalom Greetings! Finally here and impressed!
When the engineer talks, its something unmissable.
This thing will look cool with caterpillar tracks.
This is essentially the same architectural framework as a Chevy Volt or a BMW i3 w/rex. I wish more cars were available this way. The i3 rex is crap as it is underpowered for continuous use, but this setup allows engineers to absolutely optimize the gas engine for efficiency at one operating point. The BEV-only folks will nay-say the advantages of this platform over a BEV, but the performance cannot be disputed.
I3 and Volt were very different. In i3 the 650cc scooter engine was only used to charge the battery. The car was BEV only for drive. Whereas the Volt was just a plug-in hybrid.
HAPPY JOY JOY !!!! Woo Hoo FUN FUN!!
