One if my bestfriends from ages 12 to 18 was homeschooled until she was 16. She went to church and had 3 sisters. She's one of the nicest and most social people I know. She's smart as well. The only thing is is that she dated a 20+ year old at 14 and he was allowed at their house... she also married a 40 year old at 20.... and it turns out she's dyslexic and her parents didn't know. I wrote a paper on dyslexia because I have it, and she said that describes her perfectly. I said she must have dyslexia then, and she got defensive and denied it:/ I'm sure there's a lot of good examples of homeschooled people, this is just my experience with them.
And then there's me. Went to school from age 3-22, I had major social anxiety up until a year ago. It took getting on meds to be able to interact with coworkers like a semi normal person. I use to not even talk in work environments. 🤦‍♀️ I also have only had online friends since graduating public high school. There's also a ton of bad examples of public school kids.

@@shanec9840 thank you for sharing your point of view to my comment. Precisely because living this way “as a choice” in places where economy consumes while people are active part of it , is not new, it makes it even greater (to my eyes) I appreciate progress, evolution and the wonders of this technological era we are living in, however I question how the people of tomorrow will be able to solve real life problems if not exposed to them in the early stages of their existence. These children are growing up in total communion with nature rather than in concrete and asphalt, regardless of what they will “chose” to do when they grow up (ex: the big brother is pursuing a career in technology, kudos to him since he will most likely combine his early life experience to his future development as a “new era technology related professional) My real point is, we always tend to go back to the beginning of our early experience, then no matter if they chose to stay in the rural life or not, whatever they pursue, they will most likely think and act pro nature, then I feel the future of the world is better hands. (I want to be very clear that my comment is not intended to judge/criticize any parents for how they are raising their children any differently that this couple in the video, simply sharing my personal viewpoint on how this type of parenting may impact in a positive way in the next generations)

"Off-the-grid or off-grid is a characteristic of buildings and a lifestyle designed in an independent manner without reliance on one or more public utilities. The term "off-the-grid" traditionally refers to not being connected to the electrical grid, but can also include other utilities like water, gas, and sewer systems, and can scale from residential homes to small communities. Off-the-grid living allows for buildings and people to be self-sufficient, which is advantageous in isolated locations where normal utilities cannot reach and is attractive to those who want to reduce environmental impact and cost of living. Generally, an off-grid building must be able to supply energy and potable water for itself, as well as manage food, waste and wastewater."

I know I’m probably speaking to an ill matched audience here. Still. People don’t seem to realize that families w the resources, knowledge, and passion to private/home school are the EXACT ones we, as a society, desperately need as stakeholders in public schools! It just comes down to prioritizing one’s kids over all others. Yeah, we do that as an individualistic society. But for people who most reject society (and rightfully)? It’s so sad to ultimately choose “me and mine” as the massive priority over far more children. If this lifestyle is so beautiful, which it probably is, don’t you want a piece of it for other kids?

The vaccines have so much lead and mercury and now they're putting in nano bites that are here to your cells and you can't get this out of your system. The biggest disagreement I have, is if you completely cut yourself off from society, then how are you going to be the light of Christ in a dark and dying world? Christ calls us to be lights that cannot be hid. The gospel doesn't get spread when Christians hide themselves away. Christianity isn't a "my way of life" type of thing. Exactly. You can't hide your kids away from the world. They need to know how the world works and how to think for themselves. These parents would blow a gasket if one of the kids decided they disagreed with their parents and wanted to live in modern society. In families like this one, the kids are always required to accept the viewpoint of the parents without question and to never ever think for themselves. Inevitably, one or more of these kids will rebel and all hell will break loose. The parents will throw them out so they can't influence the other kids. These parents have no idea what's coming as their kids grow up and realize mom and dad are wackos. It has happened so many times with families like this. The parents believe they will always have control of the children, but they won't. And as soon as they lose their grip, this house of cards is going to collapse in on them.

Usually these types of lifestyles concern me, especially when the parents give their children no rules or education, but they seem very educated about life in general, well spoken, and the point he made about kids getting into trouble like he did honestly makes a lot of sense. Their kids are getting educated and learning good work ethics while staying out of trouble, yet still having their own sense of freedom. Theres technically nothing wrong with that.

I was homeschooled as a child and I'm so glad that I was. I was able to pursue what I was most passionate about and learn about the things I found interesting. I grew up with a love of documentaries and all I watched PBS every night until I was in my teens. It's really disheartening to see people assume that those who are homeschooled aren't as smart as the ones who attended public school, because honestly I've had my time in public school and didn't learn nearly as much. And nothing was retained because it was all to be memorized for a test and that was it. On the social aspect of homeschooling, I think if you're going to homeschool your children that getting them involved in other social activities is important. I was in girl scouts, a swimming group, a church youth group and in a group of other homeschooled kids that did activities every week. I also grew up on a farm and it was a wonderful and valuable experience.
But that's the pros. The cons of this type of living is the anti-vaxing... which, sure, if you're not in public often you won't have as much to worry about, but those kids are going to grow up and become adults and will probably not want to live this same lifestyle. What about the risk of complications in adulthood from not having been vaccinated as a child?
Also, teaching your children to be fearful of the world and distrusting of everyone is not a good thing... when they grow up and have to go out into the real world as adults, they may have a lot of trouble coping because of these fears that were instilled in them.
So there are a lot of pros and cons here...

Whether it be good or bad, it's a life experience to have and can be guided by the parents instead of being completely avoided. It's even worse when the kids only interaction with other people outside of their family is online. I think I would get pretty depressed if I lived off the grid with just my family, but then again this is the life I know and it is probably different for them.

They are just careful and choosy about their associations . They had another family living in a yurt on their property for a while. They have quite a few acres of land and are constantly making improvements as they can afford to. Although they are on the internet I imagine they monitor what their children are watching just as good parents do. I like this family even though my understanding of the bible is line with what they believe. They show some real Christian qualities in the way they behave. I enjoy watching their you tube channels

One video showed the family having great fellowship with other families and there used to be a family with three young children living on a small part of the family's land. The two mothers and fathers were great friends too. This family only moved as they had the opportunity to develop a great piece of land and help an old lady doing it.
As for dating I do not to answer for this family but put it this way I think they are teaching their children fine Godly principles where loose conduct etc would not be an acceptable way to live. All good parents have a set of standards for their family and many families home school these days for a number of reasons and are not seen as odd. The father had the courage to say what he didn't want for his children but said they could choose for themselves when they were adults if they wanted to leave.
Personally I brought my own children up in the religion we believe in and we had standards in the home that my husband and I thought to be right. As adults my children could decide for themselves whether or not they would continue in the same religion and attend services. As adults we should all have free will as God gave all humans this choice. Wouldn't you agree though that you have the right to choose how you bring your family up as long as there is absolutely no abuse of that free will. This family is so loving and do not belong to some abusive cult. You have to remember that probably only a very short amount of what the father said was probably aired. If you go on their RUclips channels they also have an email where any questions people ask would probably be answered. I am not of their faith as my understanding of the bible differs to theirs in some areas but I see they have Christian qualities and do everything out of love. The mother is very educated but gentle in her manner and principled and loving. The father seems to guide his children in a firm and loving way . When I say I mean firm in his belief that bible standards are good for his children. He is often seen helping his wife and cooking and spending quality time with his children. The children have chores but are being well educated and have hobbies. Just look at one of the little girl's garden. She clearly loves it.

@@margaretsofocleous8137 the oldest kid is 17. Kids at that age date. It's normal and biological.
So, they only met one family and that's it. In many countries these would be considered abuse. The kids need friends.
This is extremely unhealthy. And by the way, my family is Catholic and my parents allowed us to have friends. They just told us not to do drugs or drink. And guess what? We didn't. What this family is doing is extreme.
In the future they will see the consequences of this. It's unhealthy.
And a man doesn't "help" his wife. He does what he has to do. It's a marriage. In a marriage both, wife and husband, have to do the chores.

@@mariabelen7929 I am sorry you totally missed what I said but I meant that one family lived on their land so they were close . I did say they have fellowship with other families, but look you can make assumptions just as I can. I have seen many of their videos and even sent an email and nothing I have seen is worry or unhealthy to me. I think if I had seen just that 1 video of the broadcast I might have jumped to a different point of view. As an out there on RUclips family I am sure child protection would investigate if there was any harm to those children. Caleb the eldest is into web design and uses the internet for research and entertainment . They are not kept isolated from other human contact. I don't know if they meet so much now with covid. My husband and I are being very careful now as he is a major stroke survivor but we still keep in touch on line with family and friends and as we live in Cyprus which is an island in the eastern Mediterranean sea because of the weather we are out by the sea most days and I swim in the sea a few times a week. Many people talk to us while we are out and about while social distancing at the same time. If I had more land and not just a mainly terraced tiled and stamp concrete garden with just pots to grow things in I would be spending far more time at home. My sun has just bought a property with some land in Wales UK which is where I was born . He has always been a very outgoing person as were my other children to a certain degree, but because of this pandemic and lockdown measures in the UK where people are not allowed to socialise enjoyed growing things and buiding things with his 17 year old boy and 15 year old daughter. They enjoyed it so much and now have great plans for their new home and land. My son has a business so is still spending time outside working but also spends a good amount of time working from home. This year will be 25 years he has been married so he was hoping covid will be under control so he can have a big celebration in the grounds of his home but things are still looking not so good . His boy misses playing basketball and many things have been different for them only able to be in close contact with their other grandparents. We have all had to make adjustments in our daily lives. We have a much lower level of the infection in Cyprus but we have still been in lockdown. Wales have had too many deaths so they are also in lockdown. The USA seems to be suffering greatly and I am amazed that people are not taking more precautions there.
Have a great day xxxx Margaret in Cyprus

How many cat bodies that oldest boy got buried in the back? You know it’s over ten, at least.
For someone that says he’s isolated his family completely because he doesn’t trust people, he sure has no problem broadcasting his wife and children for all the world to see. That’s the weirdest part.
I understand leaving the cities, the towns. I understand homesteading, I can even dig homeschooling. But, as the dad said, he doesn’t trust people. But people are inevitable. And people need people! He may not like people, but his kids have to learn to interact with strangers, build different kinds of relationships, deal with people. They’ve denied their kids that opportunity to learn human interaction.
He and his wife isolated their family from everyone, and that’s sick.

I think it's wonderful that they are growing up with so many skills and could survive anywhere. Think of how people in Texas have suffered in the recent extreme weather who don't have any of these skills. This family can survive extremes of weather very well indeed. Also, they do meet up with neighbours and other families. They aren't totally isolated.

The Buddy system is in no way handing your little ones off to the older ones to be raised. It's a way of building relationships and, yes, taking a little weight off mom's shoulders. Mom can go nurse the baby and put her down for a nap while the three biggest kids read, do puzzles, etc, with the littles. When mom needs to work one on one with a child about a more difficult school concept, any easy little questions or problems the younger children are having can be resolved by the other children. That isn't saying mom isn't involved in everything for all the kids; just that she has an extra set of hands in the form of the bigger kids.
I only have two children, and even at that I have been known to use the buddy system. While I'm packing lunches, my older daughter might be helping my younger tie her shoes. When the two of them empty the dishwasher, my older puts everything away in the upper cabinets and my younger gets the lowers. It's called teamwork, and it is part of being in a family. It isn't farming your little kids out to their older siblings. It's life.

    • @danielleannmarie_
      @danielleannmarie_ 3 года назад +6

uh actually bro the buddy system helps the younger one learn and the older one learn how to teach. Which is something they do in public schools too because it's important to learn. maybe don't be so ignorant next time 🤡
