This video highlights how to repair a broken hinge. When this dryer door was opened it would sag on one side and make a loud popping noise when closing. The hinge was cracked. This is a common problem, but easy to repair. Replacing LG LG-MEF62782201 Dryer Door Hinge, Silver

Your video showed me exactly what the problem was and how to fix it. Thanks! Just wish the manufacturers would make durable products.

Glad it helped! Yes- it would be nice if these were not made from the fragile cast material. But at least it is easy to swap out. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

Ordered a Chinese part rather than OEM. 75% savings. Fit perfectly and dryer fixed in two minutes.

On my dryer it is both parts - the piece you show on the machine, which I just replaced according to your instructions here, but the part on the door that fits into it is also broken. Do you have a video showing how to replace that? Thank you!

Let me take a look and see what part you are mentioning.

@@travelbuildcreate turns out the plastic catch or latch part inside the corresponding part on the dryer door, that should snap into the part you replaced on the dryer, is connected to sensors and needed to be released. There is a release button I found on the inside of the dryer door. There are like 3 or four of these. The sensor had decided for some reason that the door was closed, and had that plastic latch piece stuck it in that position, so it could no longer snap into its corresponding part that you'd replaced on the dryer body.

I have a different problem with the door. Perhaps you can help me out
The door opens smoothly from the top but it’s stuck when I try to open it sideways
I can’t seem to release the hinge, do you know what may be causing this?

Thanks for asking. So a couple things to consider- These may seem basic- but not knowing your starting point we will start with the most basic. 1. First the sideways swing will only work if the door is fully closed (you cannot open from the top partways then try to open sideways) what this means is that you should be pulling on the top corner instead of from the middle in order to open the sideways feature. 2. The door swing can be changed to either swing- if you are new to the dryer then make sure you know which way it is set up to swing (might not be same as the one in our video) You can tell which way the door is set up to swing by looking at the bottom hinges. The more basic bottom hinge is the side it will open from. The more elaborate bottom hinge (larger hinge with a hinge pin you can see) is the hinge side for the side swing. You can also look at the top latches when the door is open from the top. The hinge side will have a latch while the opening side will have a blank. 3. When the door swings open sideways you are pulling primarily a friction latch- normally you pull from the very far side of the top finger pull area. If this is not working you can try to pull there while also lifting up and pulling gently on the bottom corner of the door on the same side. This may help if the door is sagging or bound. Hope this helps!

When I removed the broken part, the metal plate behind it fell into the dryer cavity. I was able to get it back to the opening with a magnet, but now I can’t get it out of the hole. This probably isn’t making sense but decided I’m gonna ask anyway.

My issue appears to be on the other side of the door- the one that holds it when it opens “traditionally”. Do you know what part that would be considered? I haven’t been able to easily find the replacement piece.

Hello. Thanks for asking. So the hinge in this video is the one that can function in both directions- meaning the door can open up and down and also swing to the side. The door swing can be changed based on the room- so some people have the door swing to the right and others to the left. The big question to answer is does the broken hinge on yours function only as the up and down opening hinge, or is it the one that allows for up and down as well as side to side function (really a double hinge function built into one). Let us know more info on that and also what make/ model your dryer is and we will try to help you identify the correct part number.

gotta be a defect, broken on mine too. maybe someone put too much downward force on it when open?

The problem is the material choice for the amount of strain. Because it is a cast part it breaks easily. Luckily it is a pretty easy part to replace, but it would have been nice if they chose a different material for this part.
