Blowing Up Gunther and Navarre Early!

- Using a glitch, you can eliminate any NPC early, even invincible ones. How that will affect the game depends on which NPC you delete. Certain NPCs will cause the game to softlock, others will just make it weird
JC has the perfect game protagonist voice. Anything he says sounds urgent and completely sarcastic at the same time, even when it's generated.
Listen to the unibombers manifesto on yet, it’s read by jc Denton, hilarious
Same VA as the actor in California Dreams. Old show like Saved bt the Bell

I'm actually really amazed that the game didn't just ignore the glitchy deaths of Navarre and Hermann. I would have thought that it would have loaded them in again. This only increases my appreciation for this legendary game.
I think it was on purpose so you could kill Anna Navarre early on the plane.
This also explains why the maintenance man doesn't give Gunther orange
He was looking out for his pal
The AI Denton voice is spot on holy fuck, was laughing the whole time.
It's because of how monotone it is
My object collision is augmented.
But seriously, it's fascinating that the game controls characters spawning even in missions where it's completely unnecessary
Yeah that really surprised me
It's all incidental cause their character classes in particular have a boolean property called bImportant set to true. This means if they are killed the game will wipe them from the level a few frames after the level starts (cause of the time interval that the mission script is updated)
Nice to know! Thanks for that explanation
@@BaconHer0 I killed Page in Versalife HK (noclipping through wall and just spawn lam) and it screwed up entire game (he didn't appeared later on Vandenberg comm and game stuck)
@@r2dsf Oh yes. That'll softlock the game if you don't use the Vandenberg trigger skip
10:31 I like how Denton's IFF identifies a terrified child he has never directly interacted with as an enemy
Lore accurate.
It's so ironic -- he always loved orange soda, but only while it was being used as part of a dark ritual to explode other people!
What a shame
these results were way more interesting than I expected.
Herman's last thought: "I bet this is the maintenance man's fault"
The maintenance man was a bro the whole time. He knew Mr. Herman was up to some shady business.
This was really interesting to see. In more modern games everything is so heavily scripted that you'd probably find that this either wouldn't be possible, or the game checks and recalls a character (even from death) in any instance they're supposed to be there. The fact that the dead flag supersedes all other priorities, like in the case of Anna's disappearing act in the second level, and doesn't break the whole game is fascinating. Also the JC voice for the narration is perfect for this.
Now jc Denton is vlogging workplaces accidents and getting gunned down and arrested for approaching a child.
I am amazed the game scripting engine has survived absent story-critical characters.
I like the fact he keeps calling Alex "Jacob"
9:15 "It wasn't Lebedev, unless that's the name of your breakroom's wall" ROFL
"It wasnt Lebedev, unless that's what you call your breakroom wall."
LOL amazing video
JC's AI voice has more emotion and conviction than his human voice lmao.
Well jc lost his emotions 😂
Do Walton Simons next. "When in doubt, take 'em out."
I died at the JC thrown in jail part ahahah. Thank you for keeping the spirit of early 2010s Deus Ex youtube alive!
We need a glitch walkthrough, like the videos of illiteratechild ones
put Walton through the Wall, ask him how he likes Pink Floyd
We're going to build a big beautiful orange soda wall and make Manderley pay for it
10:20 "How big is your...."
-"ITS DENTON! SHOOT!"
"I can't believe they threw me in jail for that!" Lesson learned: dont take candybars from trenchcoats.
I love the use of the ai voice. Makes it feel like after JC hooks up to icarus that he is warping time to redo his career with a 120 iq big brain
How interesting. That's a very "imsim-like" behavior. I think every named NPC is tracked via dead/alive variable, which persists from the start of the game till the end. And every time a game is supposed to load their model, it checks for that global death variable.
Ross Scot's comparison to deus ex gameplay as being a slasher flick villian is v appropiate for this JC
"Unless your break room wall is called Lebedev"....I absolutely lost it.
I love it when JC's ai voice sounds over the game's voices.
The ai JC voice in these absolutely cracks me up for some reason. Good content
these videos are really high quality man, love to see it
Amazing that the characters remain dead even of you kill them through your exploit unlike other games where they simply "respawn"
From now on, you get the title of "MarphitimusBlackimus" of Deus Ex
Seriously it's insane how despite game breaking invulnerable NPCs, the game works mostly fine...
This game seriously could've been an even greater RPG with just a FEW voice lines to signify characters acknowledging characters death but due to different reasons they just don't think it was you.
Only issue with making all NPCs killable is UNATCO HQ, find it hard to make the game work by Manderleys early death. But still I wish both mech agents were killable early on without glitches to facilitate the RPG elements
With AI voices, mods could make this a reality (I hope). Like I wish there were a mod to let you stick with UNATCO
@@BaconHer0 I kinda wish Unatcoborne wasn't a dead mod.
Tremendous to see somebody still playing Deus Ex and with a proper sense of humour. Taunt you on Zoom cracked me up!
I've been playing this every second year since it came out in 2000. Sometimes more, sometimes less.
Thanks for the interesting videos and for keeping this game alive. The more time passes since 2000, the more the ideas in this story seem to be slowly coming to pass. I wish Warren Spector would come back.
Give Totalitarian's mod Give Me Deus Ex (GMDX) a go if you haven't already. It makes the game so much better in so many ways.
I would like to Walton Simons get gone before he gets gone, thanks.
Ghost Gunthers sounds like an Invisible War Concept
"The Catacombs is a very fun and interesting level casually."
JC's deadpan never fails to entertain.
I'm normally not the biggest fan of AI voices, but it works so well with JC Denton
You should totally do a feet comparison video for female characters in this game. For... uh, you know, research purposes. I'd be interested in figuring out what tactical advantage Anna's toes provide.
I'm worried about all this stealth technology going around.
Unless your break room wall is named Lebedev LOL
Amazin video, so much work and trouble you put into this, yes I want walten simmoms (even bob page and manderley) version too, keep it up
This is beyond entertaining I just can't stop having fun
It's crazy how well designed this game is. Even doing crazy unintended shit like this, the game manages to go on mostly as you would expect
Man's legit becoming the new IlliterateChild at this point lol
That's very very high praise. Thank you!
I usually dont laugh at these types of videos but this was funny! Thanks for the video.
love how self aware you are with the janky ai voice. great work
Okay, that was really high-quality advanced Deus Ex content.
Well I'll be damned. I didn't think I'd see a NEW Deus Ex content creator. Not after CatSkinCap stopped posting videos.
I'm not a fan of AI but the JC voice is a good way to communicate in these videos.
Good luck!
Haha thanks. I'm not exactly new though, my channel was posting Deus Ex vids like about 12 years ago. I decided to start making more content again during the pandemic
@@BaconHer0 i guess I must have missed you completely, since I started playing Deus Ex 8 years ago.
Still, great content
Not only Walton Simons, but everyone, I kinda wanna know how much of the game is beatable if EVERYONE dies, and which characters you cant to this glitch to if you wanna beat the game.
You'll be soft locked if you kill Manderley, Alex, Jamie, Paul too early
@@BaconHer0
Lemme guess
Manderley any time before he tries sending you to hong kong.
Alex before he gives you the front door key.
Jaime before first medical checkup,
Paul any time before UNATCO raid?
@@Prodawg yup
hard to find content with this much effort and heart... very nice!
This could be a coincidence, but js you name BaconHer0 because JC Denton sounds just like Cornfed from Duckman?
The AI voice for JC Denton works well. A major problem with AI voices is that it doesn't get the tone right, but JC's monotone voice is easy to work with.
Interesting to look at the scripting behavior of this old game. In spite of Gunther and Ana being absent, the game is still able to chug along. While some of the dialogue doesn't make sense, the base game was built to be very flexible. The worst case scenario involves "stealth tactics" with ghosts of characters appearing for a split second.
Deus Ex is such a fun and engaging game, it puts may other game titles to shame. It's a little depressing that all the sequels are pretty lackluster in comparison. However, it's good to see a nice comeback with Immersive Simulators with games like Cruelty Squad.
I'm really bad at coming up with names. I think I got BaconHer0 from my breakfast and a copy of Heroes 3 on my desk
@@BaconHer0HoMM3 content when?
It's impressive that a game of that age keeps track of a character death even before it should be possible
This channel is the greatest thing to happen to deus ex
1:49 tbh I'd rather know how you pull off speaking in JC's voice so perfectly. I've seen many videos try it, but this one takes the cake
I think it's a bit of luck and the lines I recorded
Hey all, if you enjoyed this vid you may support me by buying me an ORANGE: ko-fi.com/baconher0
I'm trying to cover the cost of my AI Voice Generation subscription, it is quite expensive.
Anyway, thanks for watching. I appreciate you guys
Are you on the ball?
Get on the ball!
That is weird. Diring my casual playthrough, on the 747 Lebedev surrendered, then Navarra attacked me for no reason, I've blown her to bits with the GEP gun.
She spawned at the next level as if nothing happened.
Loving your vids JC!
Deus Ex was always a favourite game to meme and joke about with my friends, its just top kek.
You’re a worthy successor to IlliterateChild.
'I am going to cast a spell'
Genuinely shocked they die and stay dead. Maybe its just a modern games thing but I just expected them to respawn.
Metal box (heh-heh). A surprise attack (heh-heh).
I guess there is really always something new to find up about this game. I wonder what will happen if you kill other characters like that
I tried with Manderley and Paul before but the game softlocks as you need to talk to them at certain points in order to progress the game
It's pretty awesome to think about just how many subroutines and snippets of code went into games of yesteryear. Still, DX1 never ceases to entertain me, and also simultaneously show just what happens when Warren Spector gets green lit from John Romero on a project. 💪😎✌️
Ahhh... those were the days. Like when JKO, JKA, and even stuff like Tron 2.0 were kickin' it strong.
The companion cube escaped Aperture Science
really appreciate your vids on this game
I can listen to Denton talk all day.
Quite informative, I gotta say. Keep up the good work! Can't wait for the Simons vid.
JC Denton says "GOTTEM!"
It's an awesome game. I'm still playing it. I've been playing this game since it came out. Even though it is almost 25 years old, it still plays well.
But here...I laughed way too hard with all the fun comments of you.🤣
Holy shit that was totally awesome. I was laughing the entire time. Great job.
The narration is amazing
2:45 Feet???? Starts jaking off
If you haven't done this already, could you make JC say: "My tummy hurts. I'm gonna need a warm blankie, and a cup of hot choccy"
This is the content I require
I haven't played Deus Ex in years but your videos are way too good. I usually don't like A.I. voices but J.C.'s fit's too well.
UNHOLY DARK MAGICK
I know it would obviously be a huge waste of development resources, especially in the modern game development landscape, but it would be kind of funny to see a game that secretly had contingencies for characters killed through glitches, skipping of content via speedrun strats, etc.
I am both surprised that the game kept character dead and that it "mostly" didn't soft lock itself at some point.
Thanks for all the time and effort you put into your videos! They're great, and hilarious to boot. Your capture looks clear and colorful too. What renderer are you using to play the game, and how are you capturing it (OBS game capture, window capture, other settings, etc)?
For my last few vids I switched to DX11 renderer and use OBS. DX11 has issues though, sometimes the walls and floors dither when viewed through certain angles and distances. It also has bad tessellation settings by default that turn everything into spheres
For capture settings, I just capture my primary monitor. Deus Ex runs in full screen windowed mode for me
@@BaconHer0 Nice. I haven't tried DX11 or display capture. With DX10 the game looks super dark in OBS. Thanks for sharing
this is the best Deus Ex video I have ever seen.
12:26 even if gunther still lived in the game this quote sounds a bit funny - MJ12 and UNATCO got really top of the line agents, security and surveillance and they didn't find out that Jaime (UNATCO employee fired by Walton, so probably a suspicious individual) followed you(their top target) to Paris? With all that heavy presence of troops in the street they even were so incautious Jaime could even sneak a peek at Gunther leaving the club, and also ask around/hear about him being there.
Not only that but Gunther who is regarded a top agent of UNATCO and an effective hitman with probably shitload of vision augs(stuff like IFF and vision enchancement/targeting are canon stuff, not far fetched for those to be in mech versions) didn't see and recognize his primary health care provider looking at him
Excuse that i have forgotten your brother Paul Denton and the infinite power of the out of bounds killzones
9:45 one of the top ten anime betrayals of all time.
honestly i always wondered if invulnerable npcs could be killed by taking them out of bounds but i rarley even interacted with it,i did find out that in the area where jock drops you off at the prcs wall cloud,if you have the speed aug upgraded and can jump off a box,you can actually get out of bounds near one of the trashcans and die instantly,i found this out accidentally
Haha there are so many map holes in Deus Ex
Hah this entire thing is hilarious but Anna vanishing at the beginning of Battery Park got me pretty hard 🙊
Fun fact about the map where you are supposed to be meeting Gunther at 10:00.
You can talk to Jock before meeting up with Paul, but he will refuse to leave until you do. But any time after talking to Paul, he will just leave.
Now I want to do some funny things with Manderleys office door, consumables and a crate. Apparently that door destroys just about anything. Even DXMP ammo crates.
Please continue this series! This was so interesting to watch. I've tried this trick with Max Chen in his club and was surprised how easy it was. Unfortunately, his death breaks the game fast, so it wasn't fun for long. Would love to see you try it with other invincible characters!
By the way, does anybody know the technical reason for characters to die once inside a wall, even though they are invincible? Why does a wall override their invincibility? It's interesting.
The game deletes characters that are out of bounds, so pushing NPCs out of the map will destroy them even if they're invincible
You can also destroy indestructible crates by making it fall off the map with the peek drop trick
As for Max Chen, there's actually a secret 2nd Max Chen on the high rise roof in HK. In my Part 1 Glitch Guide I show how to get to him
lol @ 2:52 when he says "why wee wee"
good video overall, i love deus ex
I never played this game. I have no idea what's going on. RUclips recommended me this for some reason...but I'm interested.
you should give it a try if you dont mind older graphics its a legendary game
Using jcs voice makes this perfect
This video is the masterpiece
Bro you are a genius and goddamn level god comedian. XD
Whoops! Denton confused "understated" and "overstated" :p
10:19 JC ascends to become a Minecraft RUclipsr
during my first playthrough nearly 20 years ago....I tried to keep both of them alive, including Walter. Unfortunately, it did not unlock an alternative ending.
weighted companion cube lmao
would love Simons, and maybe other UNATCO members
this was an excellent video.
I remember giving gunther a knife and mob-training guys into him (on realistic mode) and getting them killed. I remember prompts from this. IE the characters reacting to this.
Maybe it was at a later part? Does the magic murder box method skip/avoid scripting triggers?
I'll answer this when I'm done with work haha
Gunther killing enemies in level 1 shouldn't cause you to be considered "aggressive". But if you or your hacked turret kills more than 5 NSF, you'll be considered "aggressive".
As for whether magic boxing NSF will count as kills, I think it will, because gibbing unconscious enemies by exploding them will be counted as kills too, even if it was not your fault:
ruclips.net/video/HFV7lO2VLqw/видео.htmlsi=IbE3tnyp3fMg6PZL
But it'll be near impossible to kill NSF with the box method because they're hostile and will just run around
When you are considered aggressive, Paul will tell you to "pace yourself" and others in UNATCO will praise you.
In level 2, your kill count in level 1 won't matter, but should more than 1 NSF die in Castle Clinton, for any reason at all (even if it was Navarre or the Troopers that killed them), you'll be considered a killer. Also, picking up unconscious enemies and dropping them will be counted as kills. Just another Deus Ex scripting error
Yes Walton Simons.
If we ever get a remake I hope to have the option to not defect and to wife her up, she was into JC.
LMAO
Thats neat. I figured the game would freeze. Playing shifter I shot Gunther over the battery park wall by crouching next to him and blasting him with a shotgun. After sending him out bounds the game freezes.
I also blasted Anna into the water so she could go for a swim. Odd enough she floats. I almost expected her to lack a swimming animation and bounce like cats and dogs.
