  • Today we visit Brooklyn’s most famous hood…. Or realistically what’s left of it… The Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn has long been ill reputed for drugs, violence and all sorts of crimes. “Do or Die Bed Stuy” is the nickname the area earned due to all the madness that occurred here. It’s a birthplace to hip hop and entertainment royalty, people such as Notorious B.I.G., Jay-Z, Chris Rock and many more. However over the past 20 years gentrification efforts in the area have ramped up and physically, and demographically it’s just not the same Bed-Stuy. Follow me along this journey in this first installment where we ride through some of the area’s most notorious or formerly notorious housing projects and neighborhoods. We visit Sumner, Tompkins and of course Brooklyn’s most famous housing project, Marcy Houses. Thank you for watching. Please like subscribe and share! Most importantly ENJOY!

Nice video. "Do or Die Bed-Stuy" seems like a pretty cool place to live, despite its dangers. Even those tall project buildings are awesome in structure. My ex-lover was born and raised there. But he lived with his mama in Bed-Stuy and mostly stayed at my apartment. He never took me home with him. But I digress -- this video is a spectacular coverage of Bedford-Stuyvesant! Thank you!

Bed-Stuy is not a scary name. You going by why they call it that. It's just an abbreviation of Bedford Stuyvesant.

Good for gentrification - wasn't like the locals were doing/trying anything about improving their lives in the neighborhood. Gotta love when people give grief for it. If you don't want outsiders in, then get the hoods' act together and improve it. No? Just want to stay the victim? Well, gentrification will roll on in and take you out. Simple as, as the kids say.

There's this little thing called "red lining" where banks and other lenders target areas such as this one and will not lend money to local residents to improve their properties. It's systemic racism as its worst.
