Well, just to let everyone know. The engine noise was caused by whoever had the Vette apart last time. The valve covers were installed upside down on the wrong sides! The taper on the inside is wrong, causing the rockers to periodically touch, causing the intermittent noise! All switched, and all good now.
Someone in my family had a 70’s Chevelle. It over heated so the mechanic told them “sorry you blew the engine” cause there was fluid on the ground. She didn’t know any better. So he bought the car from her for 500 bucks in 1980. It didn’t have a scratch on it. Unfortunately there were a lot of dirtbags out there. Just like heater core guy.
Rustolium makes a spray product called ‘rust reformer ‘ for rusty metal. I know it works as long as the painted surface stays dry. If the leak is fixed that product should be ideal for spots Ike your firewall.

As parents, we often don’t realize just how much our own kids are learning and growing (because we see them all the time, so like watching a flower grow, if you watch it all day, you don’t see it blossom - but if you only saw it once or twice a week, you’d notice it). So I wonder if you see just how much your son is learning and growing. He’s an impressive young man. He is clearly picking up what you are putting down!
A lot has to do with proper footwear. I’m not sure those cars perform as well unless you’re wearing New Balance sneakers, tall socks, khaki shorts and a button up shirt with pictures of Corvette’s on them 🤷♂️

Just a note on the syringe, you can take it right out and pour your liquid in and then pressurize it to put the liquid into whatever you want. Easier than trying to pick the liquid up

Bloody hell, the dumdum! When I was younger I worked in a spray paint shop in Dunedin New Zealand we sent the boy to the suppliers for a can of dumdum. He thought we were joking, so he buggered off to the beach.
So I learned this lesson with my dad. It's not that the fuel pump is bad out of the box. It's that a fuel system that has a return line. That's how it creates an equilibrium. Otherwise it's just gonna suck on the tank until it can't suck anymore. And that's when it breaks the webos inside the pump. And that's when the hole spits out. Because that's what prevents the fuel from leaking into your oil and ruining your engine. The only thing you can do is either drill.A hole in your gas cap like we did or you can put a vented fuel cap.On if they are available or run a pump with a return

My 94 suburban, the previous owner took it to a shop for a heater core, was about the same quote, I changed it in 10 minutes. Sometimes I think shops hear heater core and think all vehicle's it requires the dash to be taken out.

Ahh square body life. One of the first repairs I did myself at 17 was a heater core on the hand me down ‘86 K20. And if I remember correctly it was a two piece heater box requiring an arm through each side to thread the tiny bolts out of the blend door rods all by feel. Next job was a leaking fuel tank due to those lousy plastic shields trapping dirt and water.

I really like your Mom's K5. The engine swap was the first PBG episode i watched, and that lead to the binge and therefore a subsequent subscription and eventually a membership. The Vette isn't bad after the Crossfire delete. If you were driving without New Balance and the Members Only jacket, that could cause the problem you were having. I like the 2 vehicle special episode format 👌🏻

BMW's are great, those shops soak those owners like crazy. I've made money on 6 of em. "Mechanics special,, blown head gasket". Quik look and it's water pump. $80 pump and I just made the special tool needed from a piece of flat bar. Flip the car for a tidy $2k profit.
Basic maintenance - and that includes diagnosis of a water pump over a head gasket - should be required knowledge to get your high school diploma, that and the same qualifying test the police take twice a year, that should be in curriculum as well if you're going to provide knowledge basically forced into children's minds, might as well be useful knowledge.

I learned the 'stethoscope' trick from my granddad. He would use a long screwdriver and listen to the handle. On rockers, with covers off and engine running, he would hold a hammer by the head and 'feel' the rockers with the handle. Great channel!
GM did everything they could to keep the crossfire from reaching the potential it was capable of doing. They knew the future was in tuned port injection. The crossfire was based on the cross ram from the 69 z28 which was something special back in the day putting out over 300 hp with a 302 cubic inch motor. I'm old enough to have seen the 69 cross ram camaro walk all over big blocks.
The heater core replacement brings back some good memories of my High School car a 89 Chevrolet Corsica. When my heater core went out and started to pump out white smoke in the car. It was pouring antifreeze on the passenger side floor. After I got it fixed I used my Mother's brand new carpet cleaner. Man she wasn't happy about that. Lol 🤣😆🤣 good times.

I put a cheap fuel pump in my square. It lasted about 3 months. I put a Napa gold pump in after that. It’s good so far. . That return line helps it not vapor lock in the summer. But you already know that.
Mom's 78 K5 is a peach! I had a 79 a Wyoming truck very clean loved it should have kept it. Had the SilverRayDo trim level PW/PDL/CC/A/C Am/FM 8 track Power Rear Window, Rally Wheels, 350, TH400, NP203 3.73 and a locking Diff. That truck was awesome! Long Live the Self Tapper King!
Those project farm tests are frickin excellent. The science is sound, and his recommendations are solid. He also got me switched to cheap bar oil. Just hope the price doesn't creep up(it already went up in proce on Amazon, probably because they were flooded with thousands of orders now that his video came out. The Cletus McFarland crown vic effect.
Oh and any time you have a bolt stuck in a sleeve......if a ball joint clamp is available, and fits.....it always does a great job pushing stuck bolts out of leaf spring bushings....or shock bushings.

My mother’s ‘84 Caprice did that. We thought for sure the engine was shot but just them TC bolts loosened up.
Feel around on the bottom of the bell housing. Had a tahoe back off a torque converter bolt and was hitting the inspection plate ever so slightly.

Running a return pump is always the way to go it will stop you from vapour locking

Air filter and cabin filter for my wife’s Subaru for the dealership to do it $250. It was $50 in filters and less than 5min of my time

Im lucky i have a brother that’s like a bloodhound trained to look for problems like this on a car. When i bring him to buy a used car he can sniff up like 5 problems at least that the owner never thought about. He checks literally everything and i am so grateful!

I put a cheap fuel pump in my square.
It lasted about 3 months.
I put a Napa gold pump in after that.
It’s good so far. .
That return line helps it not vapor lock in the summer.

Mom's 78 K5 is a peach! I had a 79 a Wyoming truck very clean loved it should have kept it. Had the SilverRayDo trim level PW/PDL/CC/A/C Am/FM 8 track Power Rear Window, Rally Wheels, 350, TH400, NP203 3.73 and a locking Diff. That truck was awesome! Long Live the Self Tapper King!
Those project farm tests are frickin excellent. The science is sound, and his recommendations are solid. He also got me switched to cheap bar oil. Just hope the price doesn't creep up(it already went up in proce on Amazon, probably because they were flooded with thousands of orders now that his video came out.

Oh and any time you have a bolt stuck in a sleeve......if a ball joint clamp is available, and fits.....it always does a great job pushing stuck bolts out of leaf spring bushings....or shock bushings.
