    WIRE FOR JIGGING - HOW TO STOP LOSING JIGS
    How do you stop losing jigs? well, if it is just snags, you can deal with it, but when you get a barracuda slice your line it tends to get old really fast. Wire restricts the movement of the jig too much have has its own share of issues. Think of this contraption as an extended snap of sorts, it might just help you. It is not difficult to make and could blend in with your system easily.
    Thick wire is used to create this connection, but thin wire such as 100-150lb single strand wire is what I use for the rigs I use when fishing. Again, it does not fully protect you, but saves you about 50% of the time from losing your jig. It offers some protection but it is not full proof.

    Thanks Kit. I think this is a good improvement on your earlier vid with the easy to swap wrap-on/wrap-off connection. The split ring keeps changing lures easy and puts less fatigue on the wire.
    Last week I lost a 4 or 5 inch Storm jig head with soft plastic body. All I felt was a tiny bump on the line as I was trolling it off the kayak. I suspect a wahoo came up from behind, swallowed it whole and sliced the 30lbs mono effortlessly. After reeling it in I could feel a couple of nicks in the line, just above where the lure had been!
    Funny thing in Japan - it's hard to find single-strand wire in the fishing shops, mostly it's the 7 strand wire they use here.

      @@TheFishingKit Yeah, I've used that before, and got hits, but it's thick for its strength. Now that I have some "real"(!) fishing wire from the US, maybe I can give them a strength comparison test?

    Could you shorten the assist hooks and use wider hooks?
    Also wire will impair the jig's movement right?

    • @TheFishingKit
      @TheFishingKit  3 года назад +1

      you can shorten or lengthen the assists, no limits when you make your own and it will be your decision to make it short of long on your jigs. Wire does impede, but thats why this is a very short length and double loops so it gives the most articulation and doesn't jam. Like I said in the video, experts can choose not to use it, this is mainly for us that think we're spending too much to feed Barracuda :D

    Is it better to put the assist hook in the snap ring? I was in the belief the assist hook should go to the main line side in case the snap ring fails.

    • @TheFishingKit
      @TheFishingKit  3 года назад +1

      You can do that as well, but with the strength of the split ring these days, it's not the weak link anymore. Depends on availability of course. The one I have on this video is rated at 200 or 250lbs.
      I use PE 2 or PE 3 tied on to a 40lb leader with that jig shown in the video. That split ring is the least of my concern.

    • @TheFishingKit

      the one I am working with is Malin 400lb. I don't like crimping that much, but if you are in a hurry, or don't know how to do it as clean, it is an option...so I showed it.

    Your video came to me at the right time. I am just starting out. I have not drop one lure in the water due to covid but I would like to know the name of the video you mention about making wires for your lures. Why waste money if you can prevent losing them. Again great video and I await your response.

      @@TheFishingKit I am confused. About 1:20 sec to 1:29 sec of the beginning of your video, you state this video was a continuation of how to stop losing lures using a single-strand wire connection.
      To call it a long or short snap setup is still considered wire which is ok. I want to see the video you mentioned that this one is a continuation of that video, which covers long snap connection setups.
      Plus do you use this snap setup on all your lures?

    • @TheFishingKit
      @TheFishingKit  3 года назад +1

      @The Truth Will Set You Free not all the lures., and depends on the lure as some lures swim better without a snap. What I meant was - There is a video about "Making better connections" in the channel. The setup is similar to this. Basically just getting rid of the split rings. ruclips.net/video/OTl8A2TiB6w/видео.html

    Will it affect the action of the lure since 400lb is thick enough, or even if Assist wire is less than what you've rig? And by the way kit in our city there is no tackle shop so I always order online , a copy of jigs, does it have a difference in action one buying one?

      not so much depending on the weight of the jig. I did mention you can scale it up or down according to your need - when making a video, I show bigger/thicker examples to make it show up better on camera.
