@@corsa180 Oh yes I remember seeing that. My bad! 😂 Obviously it has been out for more than 5 years. It's always confused me why it was 20th Anniversary when the original was published in 2011. Was there one before that is even older that I don't know about?
@@TheBoardGameGarden If I remember correctly, it might have been to celebrate Stefan Feld's 20th Anniversary of making games, but I could be mis-remembering that.
I just started looking into this and then I noticed the Gamefound pledge ends tomorrow!! Even though I haven’t played it, I love board games and made the jump! I did the splendid pledge. The only accessory missing is the 3D Buildings which I’m ok with! The tiles and castles will make it for me! Thanks for the review!
Gone all in on this one! Great video thank you! Enjoy the style in which you've shot it too, wothnnicd close ups. But did I miss the B roll? I didn't see it at the end.
Hi Jenna, Thanks for covering this game. CoB is one of my top ten games. I only play solo games and I had an opportunity to test the new solo mode and it rocks! I went all in on this edition and can't wait to receive my copy. Take care
I didn't back this when the campaign was going, and I've been kicking myself for it ever since. When the chance to late pledge came up, I couldn't pass on it again. It all looks beautiful. Can't wait to play it!
I'm pretty new to board gaming and was just about to order the 20th anniversary edition off of Amazon, but I think you've convinced me to spring for this new edition.
Great video, Jenna! This looks great! I love how the tiles now tell you exactly what they do on their backs now. I think I would get the non-minis version. So often I feel like minis are an unnecessary overproduction (I.e. the minis in Wonderland’s War). Nice thick tiles have always been needed here, though, as well as better goods, silverlings, and workers’ tiles.
Is it coming to retail? I really like it but I don't want to buy it until I actually try the game. Btw are you going to do a video on Obsession? I love that game!!
You had me at the intro for this game. That, and the 3d double sided board to keep everything in place. Great design. Beautiful game mechanics, and nice review! I just placed my ALL-IN pledge at Gamefound. I hope the castles have that weathered gold look like yours. The site shows a red primer look (3D CGI probably).
I've never played CoB but knowing how beloved it is, made me want to spurge on this Deluxe Edition with AR. I can't wait to get it and play it. I just love the way it looks and seems like it would be a lot of fun to play.
Hello Jenna I love your video and it’s really got me intrigued about a game I didn’t think I would really like so now I might just give it a try thanks
Is it worth to get the special edition vs the anniversary edition, especially looking from a solo gamer point of view? And is it possible. Pretty please to do a solo game play through/review of the special edition version 🌸
I would say that it is worth it if you really enjoy The Castles Of Burgundy. They added a lot of things that makes playing the game multiplayer and solo feel so much better. For solo they have added that second way to play solo which is amazing as well. I haven't played that variant yet but I am sure it is amazing. But if this is a game you haven't played yet or a game you like but don't absolutely LOVE I think the anniversary edition would be just fine. The gameplay is still the same minus the vineyard expansion, second solo variant and just overall all the changes they made for enjoyment and ease of playing. Hope this helps! 😊
The thing is about the busts standee, is you only get one set. If you upgrade past classic they remove the cardboard standees from the box and replace them with the 3d busts. Only one set can physically fit into the plastic storage trays.
Ohhh that’s a bummer. At least they are just the point trackers. Not a huge part of the game. 👍🏻 Plus I think I might be in the minority that thinks they are creepy lol. 🤣
I'm going to comment on what I think needs changing whilst watching then see if we think the same. 1. The dice are not easy to read, that said AR have said they will be redesigned. 2. The red dutchy doesn't match in colour to the red standee and castle turn order mini, they are orange and to close to the yellow colour. 3. No text on the back of the acrylic tiles. 4. The new add on of acrylic workers and stuff shouldn't be an add on on its own, it should just be a part of the acrylic tile upgrade or sundrop upgrade. They haven't said if that ad on will fit in the main box, which it definitely should seeing as the original acrylic tiles will fit in the box. Other than that it's looking sweet.
As big of a Stephen Feld fan as I am, this game is not my favorite design of his. I too have the deluxe anniversary edition in shrink. My wife loves the game. But we haven’t played it for some time. Macao, Bruges, and Aquasphere are my personal favorites. She is more into Uwe Rosenberg than Feld, but I think that’s because of In the year of the Dragon and Notre Dame she didn’t care for much. As beautiful a presentation you have provided, I can’t justify the price tag. I can get two new games for the price of that CoB, maybe three. Thank you for the detailed video. It sure was purdy!
@@Poiuytrew.Q I don’t know why. It’s one of his best designs. Agonizing and puzzling is the best way to describe it. Not for everyone though. Lot of people hate the art, but I think it is a bit claustrophobic as it should be. It’s very much a game where the board plays you while you play against your opponents.
I`m really shocked by the dice`s design. I think they tried to make that details right on the corners, but the factory misinterpreted or the where unable to do it.
The main reason I don't own this is because of how god awful ugly it is, so I guess I should try it on BGA and see if it's for me so I can buy a nice looking edition.
Hey there. No offense. But are all board game channels’ end goal is to get Kickstarter stuff? But anyways, yeah that edition is gorgeous. Can’t justify the cost or size though so will have just the great 2019 version.
No not at all! The reality of it is that crowdfunding is a huge part of the board game industry. I personally am not a huge crowdfunding person. I've only backed 3 campaigns so far, but I understand the reasoning for publishers using crowdfunding and I love to support in any way I can. In the last few weeks I have gotten some great opportunities to try and share some of these games so you might have noticed an increase of that here on the channel. I will be doing mainly content that is not crowdfunding related with some sprinkled here and there. I think just a few have been all in a small amount of time these last few weeks. 😊👍🏻
Hey friends! I mentioned they had this up on Kickstarter but it was actually Gamefound! Just wanted to correct myself there. Enjoy the video! 😊
Also, the version you currently own is the 20th Anniversary Edition, not the 5th. :)

I agree, Obsession is an awesome game. Maybe a solo play through.
The anniversary edition is available now. Awaken Realm's plans for a retail release of Special Edition are unknown at this point.
No to the delux. They said in the last update this is the one and only print of a delux version.
Yeah unfortunately I don’t think it it coming to retail. As for Obsession, I will definitely be covering it on the channel in the future! 😊👏🏻
All good energy from Poland :) I really enjoy your videos, thank you! This special edition is so beautiful. Hope to have opportunity to play it.

I am so excited for this one. Backed it on Gamefound looks gorgeous for what is an absolutely amazing design.
Ouuu didn’t know late pledges were open! I changed my mind on this one, just backed it!🎉😁

Is the clear acrylic piece in the base game? or do you need the acrylic tile add-on to get that?
Those are included in the base game. 😊👍🏻

Those dice are awful! Impossible to read what the number is and they are Square. Meaning they won't roll at all.
The dice have been updated luckily, new ones look just fine.
