Hell yeah, I 💯% agree. He makes that setup work very well there at the corner of Mott & Bayard streets in Chinatown -- and on the path to guitar heaven.✨️ Angelo's passionate guitar had me doing a 360° spin halfway up the block on Bayard Street. When I reached his spot, he'd just finished the song that entranced me. Then I tucked a donation inside the shopping bag that's on the left -- to Angelo's right. I really needed (not just wanted) to listen to more from this man's guitar; I desired to see his fingers work that ax. I didn't know if he'd allow me to capture his lyrical fire on video, but I asked. He said yes, and I felt grateful, for in my heart I knew that this artist was the real deal. It will help you to advance to the next level. I used to play like you so I get it. I bet even you get tired of the same old and tired scale runs. Most all songs will sound the same. I had a very limited musical vocabulary once too. Learning simple things like inversions, triads, the CAGED system; how to bounce between the Major and Minor Pentatonic...in the same song, make you sound better and more musical. Tip: E.g., A Major Blues, you start out on the I in A Maj. Penta, but when the song changes to the IV and V chord, you can jump up to the A Major Penta that lives just a few frets up. You go from your pinky finger on A (low E string) to your index finger on A. Simple things like that make a big difference. Also, slow down- let the music breath like a fine wine. Less can be more. Record yourself now and again in a year, after taking lessons. You will thank me! I am not a musician either, but I have been playing a while. I still take lessons. Here is someone I aspire to play like. Hear the difference of someone who has focused on learning. He is not much different than you and me except for his focus- not flashy, but solid. When I heard Angelo's searing guitar, I did an about-face in the thick of summer's heat.↩️ Drenched in perspiration, ears perked and camera in hand, I went sniffing toward Mott Street like a bloodhound.🎼🎶🎸❤️🔥👂🏽👄 After he finished the song that he was in the midst of surrendering his ax to, I tucked some currency as donation into his tote on the sidewalk. He thanked me and I gestured my gratitude to his artistry and to his mastery of the guitar. I made sure to ask Angelo for his name, for the title of his passionate song (it's untitled; an "instrumental ballad," he said), and then I humbly requested permission to film a video of his next performance. He said yes with a smile, began his wicked-fire ballad -- and I felt my body leaning into his powerful aura. All of that sticky heat I'd been suffering dissipated.
