S&W Victory Breathes New Life into .22 Market [Full Review]

  • The S&W ends the draught of uninspiring .22 pistols from Smith and Wesson. Instead we get a classically designed durable and fun to shoot .22. Its weight is perfect for its purpose: fun and fast plinking. This version shot and reviewed has a threaded barrel, perfect for suppressor fun. Reliability with quality ammo [not Winchester M22 in other words] was excellent and accuracy was on par. Add in a good price and the Victory gives the Ruger and Browning .22s something to again worry about.

If something is really cool, especially when it's affordable, it can sell out of a lot of places. Kinda weird how it works, but it's made us buy whatever we want before the vid drops in case it's out of stock for a few weeks. The watches really make it tough sometimes, we've uploaded ones and the seller only had 3 or five on-hand and then they start jacking the price up. For firearms it's a little better, though I wish I could've grabbed a few Garands from the CMP before we finished that review. (Which, go buy one if you haven't already. You owe it to your descendents!) -Doodle

Accurate and reliable [with good ammo!], I think the SW22 will achieve classic greatness. It's been awhile since we've seen an excellent new S&W .22 pistol. This is it. Buy with confidence. More versions will probably come out as well but I like this TB SW22. -nutnfancy

Jon Asgaeroth me too. I was 10, my dad had a table at local gun show. The end of the day a 15 yr old kid and his dad were looking for a rifle for his son and he had a blue mk2 for trade. He got a scoped sks and I learned to shoot pistols with that mk2. I traded it for a para ordnance p13 a few years later.

Nice review as always. the range footage outlines why i shoot cross dominate.. left eyed, natural right-handed but learned to shoot lefty. Just getting into 22 pistol after being an avid 9mm/40 call guy. Have a browning and love the trigger, only complaint is the way it charges. Looks like the victory has better grip. glad to hear there is a valid competitor to the browning.

I changed up my .22 training pistols for intro classes and my students absolutely LOVE this pistol. Under $400., fiber optic sights, how can ya go wrong? Kinda reminds me of my Colt Cadet I use for plate shoots. Love it way more than the Ruger .22's........ (I know, so much butt hurt on this one, but no recalls?! :)
So far, One of them has over 5k through it and only 3, yup, 3 misfires!
I have no idea why this pistol doesn't have nearly as many misfires as any other pistol I've used to teach with. Completely mixed ammo, flawless performance.
I'm really surprised as at the cold weather feed issues, I'm up here in New England and no issues. Though, last winter was sort of mild by New England standards.

I bought one of these in the spring on a whim. I needed a gun to take new people shooting with, something that would be cool looking, fun, and accurate, with a caliber that wouldn't recoil too much. I saw that SW22 in the case and it was love at first sight. I love the tutone stainless and black appearance. It's more accurate than I am. I currently have a spare Holosun red dot mounted on it, so it looks silly but it is fun to shoot.

The magazine disconnect, and 10 round magazines makes it able to be sold in more states, and countries. It might be a good opportunity for a secondary market manufacturer to make 12 or even 15 round magazines for the 22 target pistols, like this one, the Buckmark and the Ruger Mark series.

I'll never forget living in California back in 1992 I was pulled over on my way to Bishop, California for speeding. 95 in 55 mile per hour road. I was on my way to another week of Fishing in the High Sierra's and had my German Sheppard tied in the bed of my truck. Rather than have the police officer/Sheriff walk up and deal with a barking dog I got out and met him behind my truck. The Officer thanked me for doing so and while taking my Driver's License, Registration and proof of insurance he asked me where I was headed. After telling him I was hiking and fishing the High Sierra's he asked me if I was taking the dog and if I had a gun which I replied yes. He told me not to go hiking with the dog without the gun because the Mountain Lions will come after the dog if they see him. I was also asked where the gun was which I stated behind my Drivers Seat and in my gear bag. Not once did he ask me if he could see it, (it was loaded and concealed) and to my surprise he told me he was going to Bishop the following week and hoped to see me there. He also gave me a verbal warning to slow down. I've had a great feeling of respect for Officers of the Law my entire life and this just confirms the respect they deserve. Yes Sir, No Sir and Have a great Day Sir and most of All Thank You ALL for keeping us safe!

You give it a pass on ammo and having to have tools to take it down? I have a MK III that shoots everything. I think you set the bar too low.
