Thanks for being a regular guy showing and your goofs at the end of the videos. Its pretty obvious that you are a true American patriot with a great sense of humor.I really do get a kick out of your videos so thanks for doing them. Long live the republic!
I've been waiting for your review on this pistol. I saw one in a local gun shop last week but I resisted the temptation until I saw what you and a couple other trustworthy reviewers thought. Excellent video, as always. Love your channel.
2022 I bought a used sw22 for $300 because I wanted it for hunting small game. The more I keep shooting it the more I love it. Honestly I thought I would NEVER own or let alone enjoy a 22LR pistol. Glad I waited for years for a reliable 22LR to own.
I can't understand why so many people whine about how difficult the Ruger semi autos are to disassemble and reassemble. I think they are some of the most intuitive guns around to asssemble and disassemble. If you can't figure one of those guns out you should leave your maintenance to some one else.
Just FYI, I have had 2 Victory pistols. First one in early 2021 was a jamomatic and the rifling was bored off center. S&W worked on it. Functioned pretty well, but not accurate, even with a new barrel. Sold at a considerable loss. The concept of the pistol and the many marvelous reviews everywhere, convinced me to try again 11/2022, but not before going to a store with a return policy!! The pistol was a jamomatic, extraction, ejection, stove pipes double feeds, bent hollow points nearly in two, light firing pin strikes, magazines did not feed, it was accurate, but I knew that barrel would go with a new throat. Returned. Great Heavens. I used 7 types of quality ammunition on the 2nd one. Different types of CCI, Browning, Federal, and some Golden Bullets. Before buying, check the S&W official site and the threads on the Victory. Very informative.
My nephew is a former Nava! ROTC pistol champion now serving in the Navy when he decided to purchase a new target pistol he purchased a victory when we were discussing his purchase he surprised me by saying that he had already purchased one when I heard that I led him to my vault, and handed him mine telling him that I was way ahead of him on that one!
Picked mine up on Friday. 350+ rounds no issues, take down screw very tight, nothing loose, or loosened during range time. sights are great, and quick to make minor adjustments. As for the magazine disconnect, not an issue on a target pistol, especially a 22lr. I agree on the grips as they fit my hand great, controls are easy to reach. Really like this pistol. Great review.
Great review, thanks. I got one about a month ago, very happy with it, same purchasing decision, was looking at a Ruger with a target barrel, but saw the disassembly process, glad S&W made this, they did a fine job.
Just got this SW22 Victory ,only fired a little over 300 rounds through it but it's a very nice pistol and worth every penny you will pay for it..The new Mark4 looks very nice also but I have no regrets buying the Victory at all
In step five or six of the takedown procedure for my Ruger 22/45, the manual actually says, at this point, you may need a hammer. The S&W certainly has an advantage here.
Yes Smith & Wesson got it right. I am so glad to see this. I have a S&W 22A good shooting gun but I have always wanted something better and now I have found it.
Great review as always. The part you're calling the slide doesn't move and is actually not a slide. It's a housing that's attached to the barrel, which is attached to the frame. The bolt moves, but this pistol doesn't have a slide. Like you mentioned, as long as you keep the takedown and barrel screws tightened, it will never lose zero with optics or irons.
Mine came from the factory with red Loc Tight on the barrel screw. Be careful re-mounting the firing pin onto the ledge because it will fly on you. Lot of great features for the money and lots of aftermarket accessories. Thanks, Sooch!
Just got Victory and it is great so far. My only experience with .22 rimfires was 50 yrs ago with a cheap bolt rifle (also a blast to shoot). I've read conflicting arguments about how to best maintain a targeting pistol -- never clean the barrel; clean it but only with a nylon brush and mild cleaner/oil; scour it with a bronze brush and aggressive lead/copper dissolving solvents -- and even the S&W manual isn't much help. So I come to you, Knower of All Things .22 Targeting and ask for your best tips and secrets on cleaning this fine piece of machinery. Thx.
There's just too much good stuff out there to bother with the crap.... Truer words have never been spoken, thanks for the insight on this new pistol Sootch!! Long live the Republic!!
I like how the S&W Victory...doesn't have that white plastic "recoil spacer" that wears out after so many rounds fired like their Model 22 A does. I wish S&W if your reading ...come out with an all metal Recoil Rod with metal attached spacer...Great Presentation sootch00.
+sootch00, that is good news. I despise those things...especially on the P35. I wonder if it will increase the trigger quality in the same way as it does on the P35?
Anybody else remember when high velocity brass plated 22 was $20 for a bulk 525 rounds? About 6 years ago. Glad I have a connection that works in a local gun store. I get a text whenever they get the good stuff.
I've had mine for about a year and really like it. The only ammo imine dos not like is Remington golden bullet. Stove pipe 2 to 3 times each 10 round mag. By the way, what you referred to as the firing pin is actually the recoil spring and guide rod.
Great review! I bought the first one of these that I could find. All the screws were tight! LOL I've had 2 misfires out of about 1000 rounds but that is it. Sootch the magazine disconnect is easy defeat and only takes a couple minutes. Naturally check RUclips for instructions. : )
First pistol I ever bought was a Ruger 22 in 1977. It was a headache to take apart and couldn't go through a magazine without a misfeed or stovepipe. This may be the 22 pistol I've been looking for.
My pistol did not have any loose screws. Do not over tighten the screws. Tighten to just where they stop FIRM!! I took it apart and cleaned and lubed it with LIGHT GUN OIL!!!!! Volquartzen Already has Competition barrels and accessories available. See 22 Plinksters introduction video. SOOTCH Still a great video and review!!!! I always enjoy your video's!!!!!!
@@menumlor9432 I have never had any reliability issues with mine. A couple of failures to fire, but those were ammo-related. As long as you don't use crappy ammo you should be fine.
I liked your review I just picked one up for $370 🙂 the Torx is a10 the Allen is 1/8th you were dead on it’s a really good buy I love shooting this pistol 😎
Bought one yesterday on a whim. Found a good price for a new one I couldn't resist. Can't wait to take it to the range. I have a small Bushnell red dot on my 10/22 that would be perfect for this nail driver. Time to dust off the 22 ammo bucket, haven't plinked in awhile. Been shooting too many Glocks, ARs, and Benellis lately.
Great Video was having trouble between the Victory and the Mark lV Competition the Victory is slowly coming ahead. Thank you for showing the take down all most as easy as the Mark lV but the ease of changing the barrel is a winner.
Thanks for yet another review of "the good stuff". I was thinking my second pistol purchase to be a rugar 22....NOPE! Easy to clean, easy to shoot and it looks better than the rugars. I am sold. One question. Is the grip angle simular to a 1911 like the rugar 22/45?
I saw 22plinksters review several days ago, that was the first time I had ever heard of this gun, and I knew then that I have to have one, your review was also good. I'm surprised Jerry Miculek hasn't posted a review, I'm sure they sent him one to enjoy.
I agree with Sootch. Why waste the time, money, and energy making a video about a gun that one does not like, just so that in the end of the video you can say "It sucks. Don't buy it.". It makes much more sense to review and showcase guns that are excellent or at least guns that the reviewer actually likes. Thanks for the video, Sootch.
Do you think the idea behind leaving the sight so high is so you'd clear the divot under the adjustment screw when you removed the sight assem. the first time. My thought is if it were lower and in the divot, there's a chance a new owner might bend/break the sight assem. trying to slide it back to remove it. Just a thought... Great vid as always.
found a easy way to reload the magazines. The gun comes with a little allen wrench that happens to fit nicely between the slits in the magazine push it through and hold it between your fingers works really well
This was one of the NRA Basic Pistol Shooting qualifying firearms used. (At least in my area) It shoots really nice and flat. It's a .22, and it fits my hand nicely. I just might get one then worry about available ammo later. The range I use only has .40 & .38.
What is so bad about a magazine disconnect? It doesn't affect the trigger pull. I think it is a great idea for the newbies, who unload a pistol by dropping the magazine. People get killed that way. BTW, that's not the firing pin. lol
You make a good point 999. But also keep in mind that people who only have weapons with a magazine safety may shoot themselves when using a friends weapon without the safety. The three major rules of safety are: #1: Every weapon is to be considered loaded until you have personally checked it. And if you leave it unattended with others around when you come back check it again. #2: Don't point a loaded gun at anything or person you don't want to shoot. #3: Keep your finger outside the trigger guard until you are ready to shoot. If you follow these rules a magazine safety isn't necessary. And it's often convienent to just drop one round in the chamber without any other hassle.
Scooch, your a man after my own heart. Try the Nub's brand of cigar they are close to the barrel diameter of the gun :-). These are really neat. I've had mine since mid February and I just love it. Triple-K holsters out of Fredericksburg Texas is making custom leather holsters for this little gem. They make some very good Cowboy Action leather goods and I'll be getting mine for the Victory in late March or April. I've seen the videos on how to remove the magazine disconnect. When you do the video, don't forget to show how to re-install if that would be possible. Thanks for all the great videos.
Bought one at RK guns. It was a jam o matic with all types of ammo. Sent it back and they replaced everything but the frame. Still jammed. I called them and they sent me 2 new mags saying “that might be the problem”. I haven’t tested since.
God bless America. Long live the Republic. Long live your 2A From an Aussie in Australia who thinks Trump is the only dude who can save you from the tyranny of the Democrats...
I've had my SW22 for about a month now. The screw that holds the rear sight on mine is hex head, not torx. It is smaller than the take down,. and I think they should include that wrench as well, since they include the rail.
Just picked mine up last night , going to try out real soon , they sell very fast , when they come , there gone , big gun shop & can only receive less then 10 at a time , cause of all gun shops ordering them .
Just picked mine up yesterday and wanted to clean and lube it before using... but the takedown bolt was too tight. I twisted the longer 1/8" hex wrench that I had in the tool box, I put a vice grips wrench on the supplied hex wrench but that didn't grip enough and just came off. Took the pistol to my mechanic and his hex wrench bent. He took it next door to the machine shop and their hex wrench twisted. We finally put the pistol in a vise and used an electric heat gun on high for probably... oh... at least three minutes. Maybe five, being careful to shield the plastic parts. Tried it once more and with a mighty push we heard a "crack" and the bolt broke free. After the pistol cooled for about 15 minutes I still needed to go outside and grab a handful of snow to cool down the barrel so we could touch it. We found traces of red on the threads and the barrel where it made contact with the frame. I can't say it was red loctite from the factory but I can assure you it was a red thread locker of some sort. When I reassemble it I will use a socket with a 1/8" hex head on a torque wrench and set it to 40 inch pounds to see if it stays tight. If not, then we try the alternatives. So..... if at first you don't succeed - heat heat heat. Then push!
To be fair: it's been a week now and using both the OEM Williams fiber optic sight and an inexpensive red dot on the plastic picatinny rail, it is the most accurate handgun I have ever shot. Don't see the need yet to consider another barrel or trigger, especially after adjusting the trigger screw. Every brand of ammo I tried worked - from super high velocity to subsonic and pistol match. And the take down bolt holds tight without coming loose. Verdict? Well done.
Handled one of these at a local gun show last weekend and liked it except I thought the grips were too thick. Good to know some thinner replacements are available. Had a Ruger 22/45 bull barrel and liked it except for the reassembly process. I may have to have on of these.
Just got my SW22 back from S&W for repair. The trigger hung up and could not fire it. I tried to remove the takedown allen screw. It was so tight that I rounded off the supplied allen wrench. S&W Customer Service was great, paid shipping to and from the factory. I have not tried to remove the allen screw yet.
Jack Tunstill good luck getting the take down bolt out just got my victory back I plan to shoot and clean what I can with the bolt locked open till it won't shoot anymore
Just the ease of takedown and ease of modifying make me want this over my 22/45 Lite. I'd love to see an integral suppressor for these! Or a short Tac Sol aluminum threaded barrel.
Just bought a Victory. I bought it for two reasons. One is its simple takedown. It's easy for anybody. But the Ruger MK IV is also easy. Reason number two? I wanted the S&W famous trigger. I own a number of S&W revolvers and also a S&W Model 22A. They all have the 3+ pound trigger that releases with ZERO creep. Not so with my Victory. The trigger is light as is expected from S&W, but there is noticable creep. And after several hundred rounds through the pistol that issue doesn't seem to be going away. I'm disappointed to say the least. Surprisingly it didn't seem to affect my accuracy at the range. My 22A has zero creep yet I was able match the 22A with the Victory in accuracy overall using several different factory .22's. But I'm having another issue that has me worried. Feeding and stovepipe issues. The first hundred rounds were the worst. At about 500 hundred round the problems are less but far from gone. The weird thing is it has issues more when it is completely clean than a hundred rounds later. It's been so hot here in Arizona I've only taken it out 3 times in the 2 weeks I've owned it. Two months from now I'll have a thousand or so rounds through it and will know whether or not the purchase was a good choice. Or did I get a rare lemon?..... But I still love my other S&W's!!!!
Keep a close eye on the takedown bolt. Mine came loose a few times as well as the bung in the barrel that it screws into. Then the bad part happened. The Bolt broke in half. It looked to be over hardened.. S&W sent me a new one no questions asked. That means it has happened to others to me?
Yes I do accidentally hit the mag.release a lot.Gonna put a stronger spring I in the mag, release. Can not find mag, after a year.Smith says call back next month. The mag, disconnect is easy to remove under the grip panal.Love the gun almost as much as my S&W 41 model.
good video Sootch. Looks like a fine pistol, but since the controls are not ambi, it's not for me being that I'm left handed. However, I recommend you check out the S&W M&P22 pistol as well! It too is a great gun with M&P ergos, ambi controls, threaded barrel, great trigger, and 12 round mag capacity. Also highly accurate, fun to shoot and very reliable too! I've had one for 3 years now and it's been superb! Highly recommended!
I bought a new victory, brought it home and tried to dissemble in order to clean and lube.I used the 1/8 allen wrench supplied with the gun, first with my hand and then with a extension on the wrench.Wrench rounded the screw but did not come loose.Sent it back for repair.Gun is supposed to come apart it did not never got to shoot one shot'
I'm going on a limb and saying that I am a fan of the magazine disconnect. I don't suggest removing it. It's there for a reason. I compete in 22 pistol matches on a regular basis and rule #1 is no loaded firearms behind the firing line. I have seen experienced shooters pull the slide back to clear the chamber before removing the mag thinking the gun is safe without knowing they just loaded another round. Removing the magazine disconnect in that circumstance can lead to an accident.
Great video. One thing though. If you don't like something, you should be reviewing it also. How are gun owners, especially the new ones, supposed to know what's good for not if you don't give them a heads up?
Its hard keeping up with ya Sootch. I just got my Ruger 22/45 Target, and now you say this is great too. Man, I saw it right beside the Ruger but it looked ugly so I put it back. Well, I'm lights out with that 22/45. Maybe I'll get one of these in the future.
This looks great. I have the 22a (which is a high standard clone) and that firing pin goes flying when ever I do a full break down. This looks like it solves that problem. Tool-less breakdown can really be taken too far. I don't mind needed a few tools to get the job done. A real improvement on a product.
federal 36 grain with no issues but this gun has to be cleaned good after every shooting, I use ramrodz 8' cleaner swabs for the hard to get clean barrel along with clp has my victory shooting great
My wife and I purchased one of these after trying at our local range. This is an AWESOME pistol.
Well I'm sold. I love how simply it comes apart and overal it just looks like a well designed pistol. definetly a gun I want

Just bought one. Well done video! Thanks from British Columbia.
Another great review by Sootch00! Just picked one up yesterday - raining here today, but really looking forward to a test run. Thanks Sootch00!
I've had my SW22 for about a month now. The screw that holds the rear sight on mine is hex head, not torx. It is smaller than the take down,. and I think they should include that wrench as well, since they include the rail.
Reminds me of the old Colt Cadet and probably shoots just as good.
I rather had bought this gun instead of my Ruger Mark lll. I like how you can clean this pistol so quickly. The Ruger is a real pain to clean.
Once I get back to the states I am selling my ruger and getting this. That takedown looked so freaking EASY!!!
Jack Tunstill good luck getting the take down bolt out just got my victory back I plan to shoot and clean what I can with the bolt locked open till it won't shoot anymore
i always like 22 lr pistol this is just so cool
Putting this on my "Must Buy" list!
Excellent review. I think you may have found my next .22 target pistol. I really like this! - C.J.
takedown looks incredibly easy big victory pun intended over the Mark series.. looks like a wonderfully accurate little pistol
Keep a close eye on the takedown bolt. Mine came loose a few times as well as the bung in the barrel that it screws into. Then the bad part happened. The Bolt broke in half. It looked to be over hardened.. S&W sent me a new one no questions asked. That means it has happened to others to me?
Try putting a lock washer for the takedown screw. The mag. disconnect is easy to take out. Love your videos.
From watching other videos, an easy fix for the disassembly screw from loosening is a lock washer
My new favorite .22 LR pistol.
How about a review of where you can actually find .22 ammo, it's still very hard to find in Ga.
Fast forward 5 years and sleepy joe is president, good luck in any state finding ammo
Couldn’t wait to sell mine, pos!
Looks awesome.
+Mrgunsngear Channel You'd love it : )

Just picked one up yesterday (store had the last one)I like this better than the Ruger.
My oldest boy is about ready to learn on a pistol (he is a pretty good shot with a rifle). Maybe a threaded, suppressed victory is the way to go.
Great video. One thing though. If you don't like something, you should be reviewing it also. How are gun owners, especially the new ones, supposed to know what's good for not if you don't give them a heads up?
A Burris Fastfire II or III/with 4 moa reticle...its smaller, and quality is outstanding for the S&W 22 LR Victory.
I'm digging it. Looks kind of like a blaster pistol.
My Colt 22 breaks down the same way, but a lot easier to put back together. Over all design is very similar to this gun.
Very fine shooting .22 love mine
This looks great. I have the 22a (which is a high standard clone) and that firing pin goes flying when ever I do a full break down. This looks like it solves that problem. Tool-less breakdown can really be taken too far. I don't mind needed a few tools to get the job done. A real improvement on a product.
I just picked one up about 2 months ago. Very nice pistol. Thanks for the video.
What are these going for nowadays?
@@AlwaysLucky86 i picked the one i have up for $340.
Hey Sootch, thanks for the vid.
looking for a nice intro .22 for my 10 yr old. What's your opinion?
federal 36 grain with no issues but this gun has to be cleaned good after every shooting, I use ramrodz 8' cleaner swabs for the hard to get clean barrel along with clp has my victory shooting great
looks like the copied a Ruger, I've had my Mark I for over 40 years now and it still shoots like a rifle, great design.
I'll wait until 22LR is cheap to buy and available. At the present I have several 22LR paper weights since 2012.
That's is one great looking .22 pistol!
