I'm considering the G90 to replace our12 year old Panasonic V700 camcorder. It will be used mainy as a family video camera. I need something easy to use by the whole family, good footage, autofocus and stabalisation and will be used in auto mode the whole time. Would you recommend this camera for such use? Also, what is the internal mic like?
As a G80 and GX80 owner what use is the auto iso unless its dark? I am guessing that if you set a bright aperture and a 180 degree shutter angle your footage will still be overexposed during the daytime so its only really useful for dark places.
Victor Bart - RETRO Machines it’s a shame it did not have the same battery, that’s the thing I like about the GH5,GH5S and G9 they all use the same batteries! I would got for a GH5, they have really come down in price :) thanks for watching the video
Just found out it has a larger 4k crop then the G85... bummer! (1.26 vs 1.18) Was hoping for a whole sensor read out, guess that's the downside of a bigger MP count. Happy it has VlogL though, would make a good B-Cam to the GH5
Very true - I have the G95 with 8-18mm 2.8 (a $1,200 lens!) and am very disappointed I cannot shoot in 4k with the full 8mm I paid a lot for. On Top of that, the V-log sucks (unless Im using it wrong)... Cine-D is WAY better with the same settings in regards to noise and compression artifacts. I shoot with the lowest ISO-400 50fps 1080p with my pro lens, and I get lots of noise (and compression artifacts) in shadows in an otherwise well-lit scene. The 28M for 1080p is way to low. Needs to be double that, which could easily be done with a software update. I bought this for professional and personal use, and honestly it's not good enough. It performs really nice in 4K with good lighting, if you don't care about the huge double crop factors (both M43 and 4K crops), but if you shoot wide (eg for Real Estate) this is not a good camera sadly. I will upgrade to a Sony A7 with 14mm lens later, unless I can figure out this noise problem.
@@FullyHuman I agree about VLogL. On this camera it is just a gimmick and not usable because G90/95 just has 8 bit, and like you I use Cine-D, which is fine and better. (I purchased and use Vlog L on the G9 which is excellent. Big difference with 10 bit 4-2-2).
@@FullyHuman The 4k crop restriction you mention isn't usually an issue for me for my uses. (I use 7-14 lens and don't usually need to go as wide as 7mm, even with the crop) but I can see how it could be in some circumstances like yours. I like the size, weight and overall usability of the G95 and I use it a lot when hiking and cycling. It's also useful to have the unlimited recording time. I got a good deal for it (body only) and because I already had lenses it was worthwhile for me. But if I was just buying one camera, I'd pay the extra for the G9 which is very good value for money now, especially after V2 firmware updates which added to its capability.
Amazing video! Keep up this work. Sadly, the dropbox link doen't work anymore. Would you like to upload again, or send some files to me? I would realy take a look at the v log footage...Thanks in advance!
Only things that bum me out about it after tons of research are: - Price tag is crazy at 1200 USD - STILL EXTRA CROP ON 4K 30 (compared to 1080p) still don't know how much, the G85 had an extra 20% crop in 4k - no 4k 60 - I can actually live with that - Slow mo is set at 120 fps and not 180 fps, it's without auto focus and no audio. - nobody knows yet of they have added auto ISO in manual movie mode (this was missing on the G85) will update when I will know if it's there. - Can't see a body only price tag which is much needed for all of us upgrading from the G85 abd already own the 12-60
G9 is more on the photo side while the G90 is right at the center, a perfect hybrid camera. G90 has Vlog, headphone output jack and 120fps at full HD. Downside is that G9 can do 60fps at 4k while G95 maxes out at 30fps in 4k mode. I find that strange.
It doesn't make sense to review this kind of (temporarily overpriced) camera with $1000 lenses. It would have been more informative to demonstrate with the cheap kit lens so potential buyers have some idea what they are getting for $1200, which is no small bit of change. Personally, it looks like a loser at this price point.
Hai Darryl, thanks for your short and to the point review, big help. Keep up the good work! Greetings from Holland, Europe.
Thanks for watching Marian :)
I've got a G7 with two batteries and a GX85 with three batteries, and I'm fairly impressed with how long I can record with them.

You found the dials perfect which are on the G7 and G85. I agree.
Great video thank you very much!!! Does it still have that extra crop in 4k compared to 1080p like the g85 had or did they finally remove that?
Great review, really enjoy all of your reviews!

Nice camera! Was hoping on gh5 batteries. But no I gonna skip it 😄 probably gonna wait for GH6 to have another camera together with gh5

You can use external LCD while recording ? Mine G7 cant so Im hoping this will allow me to connect something usefull
Looking pretty lovely
What should i buy? Lumix g90 or xs10? 50/50 recording photography fuji has more af focus points, tracking system but lenses are so expensive
Hi Davgor, sadly I no longer shoot with Panasonic cameras
Welcome to Taiwan!
Thanks Mint :)
Hey nice video! What picture profile did you use on both of those cameras?
So you didn't get a GH6 loaner I take it? :)
Did they finally add AUTO ISO on Manual movie (creative) mode? AS It didn't exist on the G85
Nice one. Thank you
Thanks Ron :)

What is the actual advantage of having a whole sensor read out in 4k mode?
@@myxsys it's just so you can wider shots really, don't think there's any quality advantages.

wow,did you get this camera from Taiwan Panasonic ? How come😂

Wait, G95? WTF did that happen??
G90 is 899 GBP, G9 is 999 GBP - why would you buy a G90?
Because it weighs more than 100g less, is somewhat smaller and has inbuilt flash
@@franzweber7494 No I don't think those are the reasons. It does offer vlog and unlimited record time.

The G95 is more for video and the G9 is more for photography. I own the G9 and its a great camera, the G95 is smaller.
