Little did he know that he would pile up 30 more wins over the next 12 years going from 63 to 93 with his final one also being the fall race at Martinsville.
This was my first visit to Martinsville. I went with 2 college friends and we camped in a tent behind the back straight the night before. It was a really cool experience to wake up and see the track right there on a crisp October morning. 15 years later I'm heading back but this time it's for the March race.
2003 Subway 500 Location: Ridgeway, Virginia Track: Martinsville Speedway Type of race track: Short Track Starting cars: 43 Finishing cars: 38 Laps: 500 Cautions: 15 Pole Winner: Jeff Gordon (24) Most laps led: Jeff Gordon (24) (313 laps led) Race Winner: Jeff Gordon (24)
Hard to believe Jeff might not get a 5th Championship. If they hadn't changed to the chase format Gordon would have won the first or second year of the change.

Fun Fact: This was the very first race where Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson finished 1-2 in their careers with Jeff coming out on top

3:16:20 Look at the young Steve Latarte
Crazy enough, he became Gordon's crew chief less than two years later and even got his first win with Gordon in the 2005 running of this race.
Damnit Robby
Great race. I dont think a single car passed Jeff Gordon all race long under green flag conditions.
Sterling Marlin's 600th career start
Ward Burton's last race in 22 Caterpillar car
Jimmie Spencer still wearing an open face helmet in 2003. Wow safety has gotten better.
Their race talk question was pointless, they didnt let fans choose road courses which is very pathetic on nascar side of it 👎😟
Michael Berkey Oh Boo Hoo
TheDieHardWWEAddict not a surprising answer from a fan of the most rigged and faked so called wwe.
