A 50-year wood structure is one that has been poorly protected. Here in the L.A./Orange county area, wood homes have been standing for up to 100 years. There aren't wood homes much older because of the young nature of this area, building-wise. Firing bricks consumes an enormous amount of energy. Where is that going to come from? As has been pointed out, trees grow back . . . mountains don't.
