    I’m impressed by how long they keep the crabs alive before breaking them down. That’s vital to fresh crab and this company doesn’t disappoint. I also appreciated their efforts at cooking, cooling and packing. Every process adds great value to a normally fragile and short lived product. Well done!

    Most of these people are unemployed this year since the King Crab stocks crashed again and the fishery was closed. These crab are cyclical in nature with up years and down years. The snow crab stocks did the same this year. If you buy king crab this year it's either old or came from unregulated Russian fisheries on the other side of the Bering strait. You can often tell because the crab legs are so much smaller. Most Russian crab wouldn't have been of legal size in the US fishery.

    • @burleybater
      @burleybater 11 месяцев назад

      @@ms.annthrope415 When an average consumer investigates what it will actually cost to buy enough KIng Crab for a family dinner, then we begin to understand the voraciousness of the industry. There are very few foods that cost more per pound weight than this crab.
      The same thing is happening to all the apex seafood targets: Bluefin tuna, Halibut as two other examples.
      It is obviously what took down the Canadian/Newfoundland Grand Banks cod fishery - a resource that had bravely stood its ground for five centuries.
      It's been 30 years since that fishery collapsed, and it never did come back in any commercially viable way.
      Seafood, properly managed, could help supplement the feeding of a hungry world. But when seafood dinners in Manhattan are pulling in upwards of $200 a plate, the peasants lose out.

      Regular king crab at $50/lb is a complete waste of money due to extremely small meat yield per pound. Jumbo at $70/lb is a bit better but still disappointing. Colossal legs are the only ones worth buying and they are $90/lb. To prepare a dinner for you, your partner and two guests with a a nice bottle of wine or two and a side of coleslaw will cost about $800. Also, people tell me blue crab is much more flavourful but it’s not available in my area. Obviously we no longer eat crab around our place, lol.
