I work nights in central processing. Its only 2 people on nights so im basically doing a 3 man job by myself while the other person is strictly dealing with instruments by herself. Its extremely overwhelming right now
Sterile Processing is a great department to work for. Good pay and the job I'd say is very secure. The more surgeries a hospital do the more sterile techs they need to employ. 10 years ago it was rather easy to get hired into S.P.D. Nowadays, most places requires a year or more of experience and must be certified. For those who just finish school for S.P.D. can't find a job cause of lack of experience and most hospital will not train or even take in volunteers.
+Thang Jake, it's becoming a bit harder to get into S.P.D. but it's not impossible. Sometimes it depends on how well you interview. Even with 5 years experience it took me 4 years to get back a sterile processing job. It's competitive to sometimes land a job in SPD especially places like Kaiser where the pay is really good. Please don't let me discourage anyone as that's not my intention. If you work hard, do well on the interview, then it shouldn't be hard.
The only concern I have is Pay I've been doing research and depending where you live it's low pay. Where I live it's about $13 hr. Who can live on that anymore these days.
For a short course,it beats CNA.Its not like you're dealing directly with patients. Most facilities have very good benefits, and the traveling assignments pay very well.

So much exaggeration going on this video. Comical. Pay isnt good for the importance of a job we do. Nickling and dime'n you. Can go to a factory job such as amazon and can paid same amount. SPD tech are worth more than these hospitals are paying people

I have a question, do any other techs out SPD techs out there also transport patients to pre op%? I have worked in SPD 10 years at 3 different hospitals, this latest job one of our responsibilities is who ever is picking casses also gets called to go to the floors and bring inpatients to OR, unless they are critical then they require an RN to go with us. All we have is a BLS certification ( on top of our CRCST) Anyone else have duties they didn’t tell you about in class%?
I know smaller hospitals by mine required the spd staff to scrub techs and doctors in. Set up the sterile field and even turnover the rooms when it's a light case day. 😅 fk all of that.
Ok, this is for show off only. The real world of SPT is miserable pay, work until your back crack, angry people with bad attitude and keep your mouth shut After five miserable years I quit went back to school and study sonography.I went from 15 an hour to 42.Payoff my student loan and today I’m debt free.Get out of SPD.
Some places take in ppl with little to no experience. Pay isn't great if you can't do o.t., but it's a good foot in the door to get into the hospital setting.
I am a former employee of Intermountain Central Processing department (worked at IMC, where this video is filmed). After I watched this video, I was led to believe working in CP is like a grassy field with beautiful flowers but I found a desert with bunch of rattlesnakes instead. Take it from me: ITS NOT WORTH IT. Tim, the CP manager, is a fuckin joke when it comes to employee concerns. He basically told me to fuck off and blamed me after Ipi Masic yelled and threatened me. She literally have to knock someone into a coma for management to do something about her. Intermountain prides itself on a hostile free environment and yet she is as hostile as it can get. Trust me when I say that the only thing to look forward to with this job is when you are heading home. It is not worth it to sell your soul to this organization. Eventually I had enough of the monster that is Ipi that I just said fuck this and walked right out. From what I know, I wasn’t the first one to have a confrontation with Ipi. All others have left. I was just the latest one in the long trail of former employee with this department. If you can deal with hot tempered employee and completely inept, incompetent, and irrational management, then be my guest and work for Intermountain.
Studying for this right now and I’m excited !!!
