MSG is a compound of Sodium and Glutamic Acid (an amino acid). Your body produces MSG. You shouldn't worry about having an MSG allergy if you can eat anything from a can, a bag of chips, or Parmesan cheese without having symptoms.

No it's not. Glutamate is something your body and every animal produces. Sodium is everywhere.

I am shocked. I was taught as an adult to stay away from MSG bc it can cause headaches and other disruptions of the body. I read almost all of everything I buy. I try to eat foods with minimal to no msg. Am I the only one to feel this way?

Queendee3428 well some people say that. Personally the only thing that gives me headaches is alcohol and I like msg and I have even cooked with it.

Nope. If this were true you'd literally be famous since nobody else on the planet has ever proven to be actually allergic.
MSG is in everything on the planet with very few exceptions.

Then there are a ton of foods you shouldn't be eating. Natural MSG is in cheese, fish, meat, seafood, cured meats, eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms, broccoli, potatoes, corn, green peas, Marmite, fish sauce, soy sauce, oyster sauce and miso. That's only some of the foods with naturally occurring sources. Adding MSG to foods, so long as you aren't adding a cup a time is totally fine.

MsCherade9 I’m referring to this ad sponsor and their garbage food and “spices”. Naturally occurring MSG is a different story.

CatManDude I’m not sure about the science of it but my sister and I are both allergic as well as 3 out of 5 of our kids. Glutamate found in veggies is different than the synthetically produced MSG flavor enhancer.
