Robert Duncan McNeill produces and directs the awesome show 'Resident Alien' on SYFY channel. Stars Alan Tudyk of Firefly fame. Really heart-felt and funny show. Great cast top to bottom. Highly recommended.
While 'Voyager' always gets snooty derision from me from the watching-entertainment POV, I will **always** go to the mat for any one the creative talent on screen and behind-the-scenes because they gave what they had to give 115% of the time
Oh, look... George Takei talking about one of his 3 endlessly looped topics. Diversity. There's always Diversity, Sx Orientation, and his Shatner Hatred. Call it DSS.
What I don't like about this is its all separate interviews, sewn together. What We Left Behind, they were all in the same room sharing stories and adding to it. This is just a 10 interview mashup.
As an early backer why am I finding out about this new trailer through Trek Movie website rather than an update email? At 1.30 Kate's audio sounds really poor, I hope it's fixed for the bluray.
My second favorite Star Trek series ever, I don't know why so many people don't like the series, I found it always had the same character and morale as TNG, and sometimes even a little better.
You know what stands out about Voyager to me? I never noticed that there was a female captain. Or a black Vulcan. Or a female chief engineer. Or an Asian operations officer. Or a Native American first officer. I honestly never noticed until I got older. This show was never preaching diversity. It just happened to be there as this incredible, knowledgeable, brave, compassionate crew showed me how to live with integrity and to experience life with the joy of discovery from the age of four onwards.
Thank you. Exact same experience. But say that & people twist your words and make you out to be some hateful person. No matter how well you word it. It's disingenuous pandering from networks people can't stand. Not diversity itself. If we hated diversity we wouldn't watch star trek to begin with
The reason it was like that is due to their world getting rid of bigotry since right wing conservative fascists capitalists dont exist and they did talk about these things, maybe you haven't seen every episode. The reason it wasn't talked about more was due to conservatives in the 1990s and early 2000s, as well since capitalism is the goal of making profits by exploiting workers and they were still bigoted in some views like sex and gender and didn't want to hurt their ratings, or at least they thought it would hurt their ratings when it wouldn't have since true fans of Trek are left wing or centrists at least who accept people for how they were born or how they want to be now. I remember hearing people in the 90s upset about a black commander and two women kissing on DS9 and a woman captain and black vulcan on Voyager. We have always had right wing bigots who don't pay attention to the world and story and just like pew pew phasers. Sometimes it can change them as well once they pay attention and that's why talking about these issues heavily now is what needs to be done do within a generation or so, these things will be as normal as they should have been 100s of years ago and hopefully we will not have a republican party or a centrist lib Democrat party that causes harm at the most and the other doesnt do enough to fix the problems they helped cause or the right wing caused. Short version, it's good to be seeing humans as humans but when you use that to say it's the cause of racism and bigotry, you listened to right wing conservative fascists or came about this in some convulted way. We are nowhere near that world yet but have done well getting there since the 1960s and still have more to do since we like to think we are so far away from slavery in the 1800s but people don't know it continued afterwards with reconstruction, Jim crow laws, and still laws are made to hamper people of color from voting or doing other things. We are better now then in the 1960-70-80-90-2000-2010s but we keep going.
I take breaks, so I haven't watched Voyager in a while. I need to be in the mood or it ruins it for me. I never want it ruined. Haven't watch Next Generation in forever so watched all that recently. Seeing this, I think I'm finally in the mood for a Voyager run again.
It all started with VOYAGER...my being as fan started with Voyager....thanks for that opportunity to get that documentary. I supported the campaign and can´t wait for it. Greetings from germany with love.
I grew up on TOS on reruns in the late 70's early 80's and refused to watch TNG until Season 3 and then I fell in love with TNG. But after watching Voyager it might be my favorite. Lucky to have them all.
Or AT THE VERY LEAST give us HD, remastered, and why not reworked editions the TOS and TNG way. But I won't hold my breath considering how much Paramount and CBS despise the fans and the franchise (look no further than the way they handled the 50th Anniversary).
@@jean-mi1825 clearly you don't understand why it's been so hard to do the upscaling on DS9 and VOY. It's got to do with how TNG was filmed, the physical film strip and mostly practical models of the ships, as opposed to DS9 and VOY that relied more on CGI ships, From the 4th season on, the Voyager was entirely CGI. ruclips.net/video/M3w6Lf4Um6Q/видео.html&t=
@@RichO1701e Don't worry, I know this. It would be difficult, expensive and time consuming. BUT the 50th anniversary was THE occasion for Paramount and CBS to show the respect they PRETEND to have towards the franchise. Fans have been doing a GREAT job at remastering scenes from the shows for a few years so it can be done. It's just a question of WILL from those who decide. A will they lack, because they despise the franchise's fans and are only interested in the fan's money.
I ran into Robert Duncan McNeil in Toys’R’US back during the run of the show with his kids. As fate would have it, I was wearing a Star Trek shirt that day, and I felt self conscious about it, so I tried to keep away from him but still ran into him at the check out. He asked me for the time. My biggest takeaway was he was a good father, which goes a long way with me. A few decades later, I ran into Robert Picardo at a convention I was working at as a panel host. I didn’t enjoy that interaction as much, but he’s definitely a good actor. For a few months, I worked at the old Star Trek: The Experience and kept hearing how Garett Wang would show up a lot. I never saw him and was disappointed. From the stories I heard, he was very down to Earth and a nice guy. Here’s hoping for a great documentary. This show really brings back a lot of fond memories for me as it perfectly existed during my middle school and high school years, back when I was still an uber fan of the Star Trek franchise.
I stood right next to Gates McFadden after a play (she was in the audience) and I really wanted to talk to her but I didn’t want to be a bother. She was with her husband and didn’t seem to be engaged in the conversation with whomever they were standing next to so maybe the timing would’ve been okay. Her fiery red hair was even more beautiful in person.
I have fond memories of Voyager and am looking forward to this. I always hated how quickly they ditched the Maquis / Starfleet conflict though. Felt like a missed opportunity.
Yep, that's Berman logic for ya. Didn't want serialised episodes, just stand alone, self contained episodes, which is why there's so little continuation or progression of characters.
They missed a lot of narrative and character opportunities on the show unfortunately. It has some of the best trek episodes, but they should have had more arcs like DS9 and the dominion war and fewer standalone episodes.
I guess you mean, there should have been more frequent internal conflict between that Maquis crew and Star Fleet on the ship? Well, they did revisit the Maquis vs Starfleet theme quite a few times during the course of the series as it went along. Although, since the Maquis faction were more centred around the Cardassian conflict back in the Alpha quadrant, perhaps it just made more sense to leave most of that behind as the seasons progressed, focusing instead on the unified crew vs all the external conflicts and threats of the Delta quadrant. There were also the Maquis conflicts dealt with in DS9, so perhaps it was better not to over-saturate that narrative.
I was just thinking about mentioning this, but its true, they dealt with it 'some'. I was also thinking that its doubtful they'd integrate them, but then you remember their situation, and its certainly unique so as I think they said on the show, thats a long time to keep somebody in the brig. My criticism is that their writers had very interesting ideas, but didn't play them up very well. I seem to recall the video game had more punch to it than the show. That 'year of hell' two parter really could have been a whole season.
Voyager, for my money, was the most consistently solid show in the Star Trek library. It didn't have the highs of TNG or DS9, but it also didn't have the lows of them either. It was just all around solid (for the most part).
@@Corbomite_Meatballs Well, they did say “for the most part”. However, for all that people rag on Threshold (deservedly), it’s one of the few completely awful episodes in VOY. TNG and DS9 had a higher percentage of acknowledged awful episodes, although once DS9 hit its stride after season 3 there weren’t many. TNG had duds through its run.
@@Corbomite_Meatballs The space lizards was just a brief moment at the end of an otherwise fine episode, in a very solid, consistent, well-formed show. Compare that with TNG and DS9 which both went through huge production turmoil in their early years and took a very long time to discover what worked.
I absolutely can not wait for this to come out. ‘What We Left Behind’ was beautifully done and a real joy to watch and I can tell this will be just as wonderful!
I rewatch the entirety of Voyager a few times every year without fail, and am beyond happy with all the easter eggs, callbacks and references to it in the ongoing modern shows. The only thing missing to LITERALLY make my life complete is a full HD remaster on Bluray or streaming. And maybe a small room in my house where I keep all the actors so that they can regail me with stories and quip lines from the show for me. I would feed them and treat them well, but I suspect I'll just have to settle for a HD remaster for now.
They should create a special project where they remake the episode where Harry and Chakotay send a message back in time to save Voyager from crashing into the ice planet where everyone died. It would work. And it would be so cool to see actual older actors.
100% agree. I wish they would also do this with "All Good Things", it would be perfect. Also Back To The Future - all the cast could re-shoot their scenes with their older selves.
there is another video of the crew behind the doco talking about everything and they mentioned there were still lot more interviews to do including Jeri
Yes, almost all the cast members (Jennifer Lien may not be) will be interviewed. Jeri Ryan has been busy with Picard and Dawson busy directing. The producers of the doc said they will get to them.
I hope they somehow coax Jennifer Lien out of hiding. I always liked Kes, and was sad to hear that the actor that portrayed her has fallen on hard times.
Although still really enjoyed and watched premier in UK and Cinema I was really sad to not to see Avery in What We Left Behind. It was kind of an insult, not only to his fellow cast but to the fans as well. I have high hopes for this Doc. Really looking forward to it.
I like the podcast by Garrett and Robert the delta flyers, but Garrett Wang really exaggerates his Asian origins in almost EVERY podcast. This is where he starts talking about identity politics again, and yes, unfortunately, a lot of the Star Trek actors have gone extremely Vogue and extremely Left. And it's just annoying.
I have been wishing for a Voyager documentary, and loved "What We Left Behind," the DS9 documentary. I've been rewatching the old (pre-2009) shows and really enjoying them. -- I've run across a few eps I never saw in the original runs, because life interfered with fandom, watching Trek shows. Rewatching VOY has made me wonder about possible storylines we never got. There could have been lots more interesting stuff we never got to see, or that would have been big changes to the characters and series, or alternate choices and timelines.
Hell yes I love everything associated with Star Trek you can submerge yourself in the theory behind it hopefully in the future the world will be something like this I would like to think as a race we can achieve the understanding of different cultures and different personalities and the question of are we alone in the Universe is pretty obvious we are not because if we are to me that's a very depressing thought I just wish they would hurry up and make contact with us
Shawn Rhymes here. I've been a fan of Star trek for a long time. Voyager was my favorite. Janeway was better than Shatner's Kirk. I have the entire series on DVD. Enterprise was good until they took the show in the wrong direction. For the record Ster Gate screwed up with the show Universe. Thanks for the video.
Trekculture just mentioned this documentary so here I am. Gonna finish this? Release what you got? Hmm??? Would very much like to see it. Enjoyed the teaser. Its so good it fits the name teaser.
Masks? I get. But what on earth is the point of wearing a mask until the very moment you sit down, unless you're trying to make your stance on masks painfully obvious like politicians do when cameras are rolling? I love Garrett Wong but it seems sooooo performative. Serves no purpose
So many great episodes (and yes, some clunkers too...), but the one where she is asking Neelix if he would be willing to represent the Federation in the Delta Quadrant while he was about to ask her if he could stay with his people is one of the most touching of them all, especially when Neelix gets the official sendoff from the crew as he heads for the shuttle bay to board his ship.* The one where Janeway says goodbye to Kes is also emotional, because they were, in fact, really saying goodbye to each other. * Here's that one, including the crew sendoff: ruclips.net/video/7r5a4kxB4Us/видео.html
Jennifer Lien has had a rough life these past years. It would've been really interesting to see her in this doc. On another note I don't like George Takei, to put it mildly. He makes my skin crawl
Too bad voyager played it so safe. Have a woman captain and diversity up the ….. the stories were mostly an alien of the week with a different nose. There was very little character development for chakotay after the second episode where he pushes for Torres to be chief engineer. No conflict between the characters equals boring.

Robert Duncan McNeill produces and directs the awesome show 'Resident Alien' on SYFY channel. Stars Alan Tudyk of Firefly fame. Really heart-felt and funny show. Great cast top to bottom. Highly recommended.
He's also got podcast with Garret Wang, but I can't remember the name of it, it's something Trek related. I'm not one for podcasts, but it sounds fun.
@@miniwolfsbane2407 The Delta Flyers! 😉 👌 Ha if I only had time to listen to the 147 podcasts on my list.
While 'Voyager' always gets snooty derision from me from the watching-entertainment POV, I will **always** go to the mat for any one the creative talent on screen and behind-the-scenes because they gave what they had to give 115% of the time
"You're not going to win, boys." Love Kate even more for this.
yeah if you every watched her interviews, Kate has mentioned more than a few times she felt like they were watching her- waiting for her to fail.
@@ML-yn9yu and the number of executives increased each time she tells it:)
Never have I been this excited for a Documentary to be released before!
Thank you for doing this for the fans, we love you for it!
Oh, look... George Takei talking about one of his 3 endlessly looped topics. Diversity. There's always Diversity, Sx Orientation, and his Shatner Hatred. Call it DSS.
Yeah, Takei is pretty tiresome these days. He's actually become quite insufferable.
Is it bad that I’d rather watch this teaser than the entire 2nd season of Picard?
Robbie McNeil at a console... clever.
What I don't like about this is its all separate interviews, sewn together. What We Left Behind, they were all in the same room sharing stories and adding to it. This is just a 10 interview mashup.
COVID: that’s why
When will it be released?
As an early backer why am I finding out about this new trailer through Trek Movie website rather than an update email? At 1.30 Kate's audio sounds really poor, I hope it's fixed for the bluray.
exactly, I threw $100 I was hoping to get updated before the public lol
An email came out today from Indiegogo (at around 1418 EST) mentioning that this was going live.
I knew it! I knew Neelix had a crush on Janeway!
Tim Russ reminds me of Obama

no... studio wanted to reboot the franchise with something new and fresh for...... moneh. It was inevitable after DS9.
Well, this went all the way to no where. Must be coming up to 3yrs now. About time we received some more excuses! Thanks for disappointing the fans.
Fantastic stuff, can't wait to watch the full film! The 90's Star Trek, what a wonderful universe that was!
Please make a full ST Voyager movie, or new series !!
Yes! My favorite ST series! I am in full-on nerd mode awaiting this one.
Voyager crew is definitely the one I would feel most at home with if I was a crew member.
I grew up on TOS on reruns in the late 70's early 80's and refused to watch TNG until Season 3 and then I fell in love with TNG. But after watching Voyager it might be my favorite. Lucky to have them all.
Super hyped for this one. Paramount needs to give us several of Voyager/DS9 movies.
Or AT THE VERY LEAST give us HD, remastered, and why not reworked editions the TOS and TNG way.
But I won't hold my breath considering how much Paramount and CBS despise the fans and the franchise (look no further than the way they handled the 50th Anniversary).
I refuse to buy the new shows until they release it on 4K/HDR. I'll pay triple the price if they redo the previous shows in 4K/HDR.

Don't worry, I know this.
A will they lack, because they despise the franchise's fans and are only interested in the fan's money.
two years later and still not released.
Yeah, we’re all curious as to wtf is happening. It’s been more than 3 years since we gave them more than a million dollars.
I can't wait to see it !! I love ST Voyager series with all my heart !!!
What's the status of this show? I thought it was going to be finished last year. It's almost March 2023 now..
If we're being realistic, there's no way in hell a captain would integrate an enemy crew into theirs like that.
Yes, the Warp 10 space lizard babies was certainly a high point.
@@Corbomite_Meatballs Hey, listen, there was a stinker or two. But I'll take that over the TNG clip show any day of the week! :D
I'd rank the ST series as follows:
TOS
TNG
Voyager
DS9
Enterprise
Haven't seen the recent ones.
I could not be more excited to see what’s to come. Thank you!
That's a sick thought and I love it ; - )
... the entirety... a few times... every year?
Are you just watching 3 episodes a night, every night? Repeatedly?
@@Jogwheel I binge it, usually alongside some special brownies and some snacks.
hd remaster is possible when the source is analog. IIRC voyager was shot in digital. Only some A.I. enhancements are possible.
Any update on this project??
Ethan and Bob P are the obvious choice for a Grumpy Old Men movie with their little hats lol.
I've never stopped watching this show. The Journey will never end
This is very promising. I loved “What We Left Behind”!
As a massive Voyager fan *self declared* I am so excited about this documentary! - Bree
we just finished the series and absolutely loved it , just as good as DS9 imo .
ST Voyager is awesome !! My favourite ST series ;-)
ds9 eviscerates all
it's not tho. Ds9 is off the scale, better character development, fully fleshed out plot lines... I could go on, but it is better than VOY

No release date, they say still editing a few months ago. We will be lucky if it gets released this year, but highly unlikely.
@@Conufan Thanks for the info :)
So cool! Anyone know if Jeri's a part of this too? I assume there's more interviews in the actual thing 😅❤️
I was asking myself the same question!
there is another video of the crew behind the doco talking about everything and they mentioned there were still lot more interviews to do including Jeri
And what about Roxann Dawson? I always thought she was awesome, and she signed the contract without even knowing what a Klingon was.
Yes, almost all the cast members (Jennifer Lien may not be) will be interviewed. Jeri Ryan has been busy with Picard and Dawson busy directing. The producers of the doc said they will get to them.
I hope they somehow coax Jennifer Lien out of hiding. I always liked Kes, and was sad to hear that the actor that portrayed her has fallen on hard times.
git it done
when is this coming out??
Robert Beltran sort of aged into Marlon Brando when he played Jor-El
I like that they mentioned kes
I’m looking forward to seeing this :-)
I had no idea this was a thing until it was mentioned on The Delta Flyers Podcast by Garrett and Robbie. Cannot wait
Although still really enjoyed and watched premier in UK and Cinema I was really sad to not to see Avery in What We Left Behind. It was kind of an insult, not only to his fellow cast but to the fans as well.

Voyager... back when Trek was good
I like the podcast by Garrett and Robert the delta flyers, but Garrett Wang really exaggerates his Asian origins in almost EVERY podcast.
This is where he starts talking about identity politics again, and yes, unfortunately, a lot of the Star Trek actors have gone extremely Vogue and extremely Left. And it's just annoying.
Looking good 👍🏾 I hope you got to interview jeri, roxanne , Jennifer?
Tim Russ was a fantastic Vulcan.
I want them back so bad :(
I have been wishing for a Voyager documentary, and loved "What We Left Behind," the DS9 documentary.
Hell yes I love everything associated with Star Trek you can submerge yourself in the theory behind it hopefully in the future the world will be something like this I would like to think as a race we can achieve the understanding of different cultures and different personalities and the question of are we alone in the Universe is pretty obvious we are not because if we are to me that's a very depressing thought I just wish they would hurry up and make contact with us
wonderful! I look forward to seeing this.
I have been waiting and waiting for this doc to be released. When will this happen really?
Shawn Rhymes here. I've been a fan of Star trek for a long time. Voyager was my favorite. Janeway was better than Shatner's Kirk. I have the entire series on DVD. Enterprise was good until they took the show in the wrong direction. For the record Ster Gate screwed up with the show Universe. Thanks for the video.
Fuck yeah
Trekculture just mentioned this documentary so here I am. Gonna finish this? Release what you got? Hmm??? Would very much like to see it. Enjoyed the teaser. Its so good it fits the name teaser.
Looks great guys! Excited! Audio panning could do with a few tweaks to be perfect 👌
Voyager, the last ST series that I loved... Although I quite liked Enterprise.
Jeri Ryan and Roxanne Dawson are noticeably missing, I hope they’re both in the full documentary.
Masks?
How did Harry Kim not age at all?
The last episode, he was supposed to be 30 years older with grey hair. 30 real yrs later, not a single one!
Wow
I am SO waiting for this! Voyager is not the "best" Star Trek, but over the years it became my favorite - that's for sure!
I feel just the same! Voyager has a spirit like no other, and that's mostly down to Mulgrew.
@@Scripture-Man They were all amazing and I'm still SO waiting for this!
