RIP Amy Winehouse, gone too soon. She was known for her deep, expressive contralto vocals and her eclectic mix of musical genres, including soul, rhythm and blues, reggae and jazz.
Thanks Sarah. Wonderful to see your reaction. I get chills every time I hear Amy's voice. Heartfelt, unique, and authentic. Her "Love is a Losing Game" is also a very beautiful and poignant piece; her 2007 performance of this live At SXSW is well worth a listen.
@@stevestone1527 It was a lot of complex reasons, mainly untreated mental illness which she suffered from a young age. It was mainly the alcohol (she died from alcohol poisoning) and the drugs did its part but not as much as people make it out to be. It was only the few years she married to Blake Fielder-Civil as he has said he was the one that introduced her to hard drugs. At the hidden reason nobody talks about is bulimia which prior to the drugs was the reason why she was so skinny. Amy's doctor has speculated that was a contributing factor to her death, and Amy's brother seems to think so too.
@stevestone1527 And if you're wondering, yes, the British press demolished her. The British press can be a another kind of nasty. They wouldn't leave her alone (you can find the footage of Amy punching cameras) so in the end she had to get a restraining order through the courts so they would stay away from her house and from the houses of her friends and family. It's just awful if you read what they wrote about her.
She's talking about her on again off again relationship with her boyfriend Blake, she and him had a love that was so strong, and when he finally ended things she just couldn't get over that. It is worth mentioning she was engaged when she died, but I think Blake was her 1st love which she never got over.
Ah hem...kd lang sang So In Love by Cole Porter on Red, Hot, and Blue. kd has a voice that is unmatched in terms of range, beauty, and control. Leonard Cohen wrote "Hallelujah" After hearing kd sing it, he said no one else should ever sing the song. How often do songwriters say such a thing? Amazing!
About her boyfriend who left her to go back with his girlfriend. This album was a huge hit for her, she won a grammy and became an overnight global superstar. With all the money she was making and her being so famous, he left his girlfriend and got back together with Amy. He was the worst thing to ever have happened to her, he destroyed her. She may have still been here today had she never met him.
Amy had a lot of serious mental health issues that were untreated and long-standing eating disorder that contributed to her death. Taking the addiction issues out of the equation, eating disorder can be and are deadly and would have caught up to her eventually. This is a gross oversimplification of a very complex situation with many contributing factors.
Black/white does not mean vintage. It's simply a production decision on how best to tell a story. The first commercial movie to use color came out in 1908, fyi.
I think every girl should hear the Etta James song "I'd Rather Go Blind". Personally, I have to listen to the Monkees "The Girl I knew Somewhere" when it comes on. My surprise is to find out that all four of them played the instruments on the song and it was written by one of the Monkees, namely Mike Nesmith. Another good song is Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come"
Hey love Amy Winehouse! Yes we lost her way to soon! Favorite song and video by her is Rehab!

Hello Sarah. Thanks to take the time to listen the great Amy. I think you’d like too Mon Laferte and her song Tu Falta De Querer cause is one of the chilean singer most internationally acclaimed a couple of years ago. Cheers from🇨🇱
Rest in peace Amy.I got the tattoo of Amy with hirse shoe and Daddys girl in the middke and i git it for 43 birthday i am now 50 and Sarah please listen To REHAB
Hi Sarah! Thanks for this, now do Angelina Jordan singing this at 10! Her mum told her she had to change the lyrics and she rewrote the whole song in 24 hours! BTW I prefer Angelina’s version! Thank you! Peace and Blessings to you and yours from Australia.
I think in this sense the word “black” means a void that offers nothing and cannot necessarily be a place you can reemerge from. It’s very sad and final sounding the way she sings the word.
I love music, I'm in my sixties and have seen it before unfortunately many times the artist that burned oh so bright and then gone, alcohol and drugs the abyss of the creative soul....

Quite agree.
Great song. Thanks for posting! She had an awesome voice and made some great music. Sad that her personal life was so troubled. RIP, dear soul.😣
Makes me cry just watching her ….. gone way too soon 😢

Another wonderful British talent who was hounded by the tabloid press until she could take no more 😢
@@annepalmer4912 All down to the British Press and nothing to do with booze or drugs? Are you sure?

Aah. Such a loss. You keep doing this to me Sarah Dengler - another all time favourite.

I just found your channel today and am loving it …. Love how you can take the time to appreciate beautiful songs
The very last true talent that could effortlessly and magnificently do vintage 60’s blues/soul. 40 years later. And nobody since. And it is a crime.

@@marionotto4902 No argument there. KD is magnificent. But she does not have “That Sound” to which I refer.
The headstone says “R.I.P the Heart of Amy Winehouse”. The shot was edited out after her death in 2011.
Great song!! Wonderful artist.
Oh my word...... Are you aware that you are an amazing singer yourself.
Love her...miss her! RIP
What a beautiful Gritty voice Amy had. A true talent.
With different lyrics this would be one of the best James Bond Songs ever made...
Really great to see your reaction!! It's lovely the way you feel and speak so eloquently about the music. Love the show well done. Thank you 😀
Nicely done. May I say the music you have in the background as you spoke of this wonderful song was very fitting.

Amy was unique. She was unlike any other singer in modern times. The closest I can come up with is from back in the way back, Billie Holiday.
SHE was only 27 at her death....but the voice will live forever

She’s my all time fav!!! Check out love is a losing game at the mercury awards!! Live it’s so good!!
She was singing about the man who introduced her to the lifestyle that ultimately destroyed her. He did not deserve her
You need to listen to more AMY!! Next try "Tears dry on their own"

She’s singing about addiction and going back to what’s killing her.

Why do all the greatest artists die so young, Janet Joplin, Jimmy Hendrick, Jim Morrison. And others.
Because the world chews them up and spits them out. They are too beautiful for this world.
