Rosanna Arquette has three songs written about her. Rosanna by Toto, In Your Eyes and Digging In The Dirt by Peter Gabriel. Sheesh!!!
That is only a rumour spread by Rosanna herself. Peter has never said it was about her, even though he has explained the origin and meaning of In Your Eyes quite a few times. If you listen to the lyrics, it doesn’t make sense at all they were about Rosanna, as they talk about a dying love, while his relationship with her was quite new. And Digging in the Dirt isn’t about her either. It’s about Peter’s struggles with his failed marriage and subsequent relationships, and his look for mental peace through therapy.
@@rpraelsporcupine3112 I was told that “Digging In The Dirt” was about their break up. My bad for believing that.

It’s not about Roseanna, it’s about Peter being in a bad mental place after his divorce of Jill and then seeing that his relationship with Roseanna also failed, and then his complicated relationship with one of her teenage daughters, who didn’t take well the divorce either. He was very depressed after all these emotional struggles and he was also bottling up his anger. He started to work through his issues through therapy, which helped him understand and channel his feelings. That’s what Digging in the Dirt is about in Peter’s own words. As for In Your Eyes, many people believe it’s about Rosanna because she said it herself, but it’s not true. Peter never confirmed it and, as I said, by listening to the lyrics it is very clear that it was about a relationship ending, not beginning 🤷🏻♀️
