You CHEATED again Larry! 17:07 you rolled a 1 and moved your frog down a space. Then your suspiciously convenient nose bleed created sufficient distraction to poor Stuart who continued to allow you to take an extra 1 move after your intermission at 17:50. Caught red handed, or should I say red nosed.
Still waiting for Hollywood to make a multi million dollar movie of Frogger. When it happens (one day it will, you'll see) I hope it's in live action, no cheating with Toy Story CGI. I want a guy in frog outfit and everything.
reminds me of fairy tale theatre may have had a frog man movie before seemed like or some company-frog price was called di you see that..thats your dream come true already maybe?
I think all I really want to see is a remake of Frogger 97, Frogger 2: Swampy's Revenge, and a third Frogger that expands on the previous two. At the very LEAST, I'll take a Steam port of the existing ones.
You two need to do way more of these. Love your content Larry, but the board game stuff is great to even just listen to. Cheers for bringing another one out!
Thanks for posting the full playthrough. I know most viewers can only pay attention for 200ms, but personally when I sit down to watch two men playing 30 year old childrens board games, I wanna watch the whole thing. :) Also, good job on using the nosebleed as a diversion to get an extra roll Larry. ;)
Konami's 1981 arcade smash Frogger became the first videogame turned into a board game when the upright cabinet and the table-top variation appeared in the same year. In the spin-off, players had to navigate three frogs to the opposite side of the board using the numbers shown on the 6-ixed dice. It was one of a number of videogame-inspired board games created by Milton Bradley Games. Others included Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man. Donkey Kong, Zaxxon, Berzerk, Defender II, Centipede, Jungle Hunt, Pitfall!, Turbo, Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, Tetris, Sonic the Hedgehog, Street Fighter II, Donkey Kong Country, and Pokémon Master Trainer III.
Maybe it’s not that the frog dies in water, but that after dodging a bunch of stuff, when he jumps into water he’s like ”Screw this, I’m going downstream!”.
Solidified water, or as we call it in the trade "ice". And "Why is this bacon so cold??" Are two of the greatest quotes created by Ashens and his posse
Ashens mentioning the frog horror film just reminds me of all those b movies about random killer things, tomatoes, whales, mice, spiders, leaves. All they would do is cut between a video of spiders and screaming people running away and they would do that with a never ending list of bizarre things.
There is a film called Strays from the 90s (I think) that does this with housecats. Basically it's just 30 cats wandering around the set while the soundtrack tries to convince you this is scary. There is a scene where the cats supposedly kill someone and you can clearly tell someone is just dropping cats on him from just barely off camera.
When they started talking about a frog horror film I instantly thought of the Elvira pinball table Scared Stiff which references "Night of the Leapers" which is a great title for a non-existent B movie about frogs
I think Chris Packham argued that too many resources were going towards the conservation of pandas, at the expense of numerous other equally endangered species, simply because they're cute. Although your idea of him simply being misanthrope with a hate-boner for bears is funnier.
As MatPat theorised when he covered the video game a few years ago - Frogger is an Aussie Rainforest TREE Frog, not a bog-standard (heh) one like around ponds and rivers.
*First the pond, then the world!* No seriously... that was the tagline to the film Frogs. Anyways, great to see you two blokes playing boardgames again!
Frogs cannot breathe underwater, they require air to breathe. Tadpoles have gills for breathing underwater but these are lost when they mature into frogs.
Fantastic! Larry and Stu back together again in another video game based board game shenanigans. By the way,I think the bits in the middle look like Spam and cheese.
I gotta say, this is an interesting take on the Konami classic. One variation to the rules I'd make, though, is that if a player is forced to move forward into a space occupied by a car, that frog is forfeit, as per the arcade game. I might also add that you can't go in the river without a log... but those fly spaces would make the game as long as _Monopoly_, I reckon! Also. I really missed this series. Thank you for bringing it back. :3
"Breathe underwater" Frogs don't have gills, they cannot do this. Frogs are not fully amphibious creatures, being obligate water-dwellers as infants and becoming obligate air breathers as adults.
Another extra rule the game should have: once a frog has landed on a fly and thus "eaten" it, the log should be turned over to the non-fly state. There were a lot of flies on the river by the end of this game!
Stuart: Who's going to build a motorway in the middle of a swamp, that's a really bad idea isn't it? Larry: A bit like Outrun where they build a motorway next to the sea, I can't think of anything bad happening there. The Dutch: We're going to build an entire country in the swamp next to the sea.
The reason Frogger is avoiding the water IS because the water is so fast. The idea I imagine is that he is trying to make it past to river into the wilderness where he could possibly get closer to more calm waters (such as a pond). While frogs are resilient swimmers, they tend to prefer ponds, and calmer streams than aggressive rivers. As for why he dies, ehhhh video game logic mostly but essentially it is him getting carried away and possibly smashed into logs and rocks.
I figured that frogger dies when he jumps in the water because there's alligators in the water that want to eat him. that's why instead, he has to jump across their backs into the frog berths. and then sometimes a lady frog appears in one and he gets bonus points for mating with her. . .
Nutkins had a pet otter as a child, and well...things didn't go too well. Don't forget he also hosted Animal Magic with the legend that was Johnny Morris.
The movie "Frogs" was very deceptively marketed. Despite its name and its various promotional materials, it features no killer frogs. Other than an animated frog during the end credits, various other creatures do all the killing within the film.
It was an otter that did done the deed. Incidently another usless fact on missing fingers was that James Doohan ( scotty from TOS) lost part of his finger in a Bren gun accident and so they had to use hand double at points in the series. A usless fact
Oh it's "Guru Larry"! I always heard you say that and thought you were making a portmanteau between your name and the word "gorilla" as a form of self-deprecating humor!
Maybe it wasn't the water itself that killed Frogger, but the things IN the water. He hitches rides on alligators, turtles & logs. The gators and turtles eat him and the logs crush him if he falls in. Also, I remember the movie "Frogs." It had Ray Milland, Joan Van Ark and Sam Elliot before he started rocking the 'stache. It was one of many "nature gone nuts" movies cranked out in the mid-1970s to capitalize on the success of "Jaws." They used giant African bullfrogs and cane toads, but a frog big enough to swallow a person whole never did show up. I live not far from Eden Garden State Park where it was filmed. I keep meaning to go there for a tour.
I feel like, the logs and cars should move 1 square each, like same for the frog, roll the die thats how much you can move em Adds more tactic thinking to block or ready to run over Could have the car squares be two squares long so they move farther/faster
No one said that the frog died when they jump into the water. It's just that jumping into it greatly inconvenients it since that's not where it wanta to go. Evidently, once a frog jumps into the water, it's very difficult for it to jump out. This is reflected in the loss of a life.
Remember when arcade games were so simple you could make board games out of them? COMING NEXT SEASON: FINAL FANTASY 7, THE BOARD GAME! Yeah, probably not. Fun video guys!
I never knew there was a frogger board game! Enjoyed the video as always. 0:50 "The water is acid." Ah, so after all these years, we finally find out that Frogger takes place in Flint, MI.
Hyuck
You CHEATED again Larry! 17:07 you rolled a 1 and moved your frog down a space. Then your suspiciously convenient nose bleed created sufficient distraction to poor Stuart who continued to allow you to take an extra 1 move after your intermission at 17:50.
Caught red handed, or should I say red nosed.
although it did help Stuart run over Larry's frog so maybe he planned it on poor Larry ;)
True. However it could have been a more insidious plot to lure Stuart into a false sense of security.
We will never know.
Larry's never said he plays fair...
Mr_StephenB w
Well spotted ! Shame Larry is a knob
Still waiting for Hollywood to make a multi million dollar movie of Frogger. When it happens (one day it will, you'll see) I hope it's in live action, no cheating with Toy Story CGI. I want a guy in frog outfit and everything.
First Cats and soon Frogger
They made a Gameshow on Peacock
lol

At the very LEAST, I'll take a Steam port of the existing ones.
The logical progression of this crossover is Guru Larry, Ashens, and Yahtzee play Dungeons & Dragons.
Basic Dungeons & Dragons
You two need to do way more of these. Love your content Larry, but the board game stuff is great to even just listen to. Cheers for bringing another one out!
I unrealistically hope you two never run out of old video-board-games.
Don't worry about the tangents, Larry, I could listen to you for hours.
singular of dice is die. if the game has one cube, it's a die, however the action of throwing one cube is called throwing the dice.
Thanks for posting the full playthrough. I know most viewers can only pay attention for 200ms, but personally when I sit down to watch two men playing 30 year old childrens board games, I wanna watch the whole thing. :)

That would make quite the playlist 👍GG👍

Solidified water, or as we call it in the trade "ice". And "Why is this bacon so cold??" Are two of the greatest quotes created by Ashens and his posse
18:22, you let him move twice. He moved one before the bloody nose, but you let him move again after.
mgunter yep i noticed that, then ashens rolled 1 and killed him...so karma i guess.
Please tell me you don't actually own a "You Mad Bro?" shirt.
FINALLY ANOTHER ASHENS GURU COLLAB!!!!!
Oh, the lols when the "British Teeth" ad popped up in the middle of this video. I thought it was in bad taste before, but on this vid it's hilarious.
I would love to play board games with you two. Such a great sense of humour you both have. 😀
Ashens mentioning the frog horror film just reminds me of all those b movies about random killer things, tomatoes, whales, mice, spiders, leaves. All they would do is cut between a video of spiders and screaming people running away and they would do that with a never ending list of bizarre things.

"Night of the Leapers" is a great way of referencing both "Frogs" and "Night of the Lepus", the latter being a movie about killer rabbits
5 Minutes in and you haven't even opened the box. What is this, an Ashens review?
RazonOnline Nice Ricky pfp
i mean. . . yes technically?
"Chemicals in the water are turning the friggin' frogs gay!"
I think Chris Packham argued that too many resources were going towards the conservation of pandas, at the expense of numerous other equally endangered species, simply because they're cute.
Although your idea of him simply being misanthrope with a hate-boner for bears is funnier.
Great reference with the "Intermission", I can imagine most people would get it.
What's it referencing?
Those responsible have been sacked.
Jexxter1988 You get it then.
:)
And now for something completely different!!
James Laforme Spot on.
For those curious, Terry's fingers were bitten off by an otter. :)
Two of my fave RUclipsrs! Can't believe you two live near each other.
Radical SatiRICKal Ashens, Larry, Barry... Norwich youtube succes trio.
As far as I know Barry lives in Bristol, which is far away from Norwich. Thats why they meet in London for Barshens ^^
I like that flip board option, pretty much finalizes things.
It is bothering me way more than it should that the board's folding line isn't in the center...
i had this a wee kid but came with a spider inside
Camui Kenshin a real spider inside ?
yes
a robot spider W lazors beams on it's back
A flying, nuclear, tactical, robot spider with lasers on its back and a bottle opener attached to it's arse.
I know a guy who came with a spider inside.
He sat on a bird to catch the spider.
He sat on a cat to catch the bird.
It's just absurd.
larry and ashens improving old 80's gamse that no one had or has seen ever
As MatPat theorised when he covered the video game a few years ago - Frogger is an Aussie Rainforest TREE Frog, not a bog-standard (heh) one like around ponds and rivers.
I wish I could talk about a box for that long.
I wish I could watch a video without seeing your stupid name in the comments lolz
@@samholdsworth3957 sorry you have to read the comments and bitch about 4 year old comments. My heart aches for you /s
My favorite dynamic duo!!! Back in action again.....
I found this board game interesting. I wouldn't play it, but watching you two play it was worth the watch.
It's pretty amazing that I've only now just watched this.
Uptown Funk/Really Wild Show - Oh man!
Can we just have an hour long video of Stuart and Larry making jokes and laughing at each other?
*First the pond, then the world!* No seriously... that was the tagline to the film Frogs.
Anyways, great to see you two blokes playing boardgames again!
Great vid :D I like you two with board games ^^
Agreed ^_^.
I wish I lived close enough to my fellow youtubers to do collabs with.
Well Stuart lives in Norwich and I live in London, so we're hardly "close" ourselves :D
@@Larry the United kingdom is tiny
Frogs cannot breathe underwater, they require air to breathe. Tadpoles have gills for breathing underwater but these are lost when they mature into frogs.
Here's to a greatly anticipated video and to Terry Nutkins missing finger.
Id love to play a game of "Frogs Cars Bacon" possible an Ashens Guru Larry Boardgame in the making if we get a kickstarter on it lol
Frogs have lungs, they cant breathe underwater. They have gills as tagpoles but lose them as they grow up
Fantastic! Larry and Stu back together again in another video game based board game shenanigans. By the way,I think the bits in the middle look like Spam and cheese.

Just picturing this board being populated by janky Christmas cracker frogs... especially orange ones! GG
hey you
It's actually pronounced 'Hello you'
Hi there you!
actually it's "Hello you!™" but i just greeted them. what the fuk bruh cash me ousside and fite me irl how bow dah
+Wes Lesley lol
No no no, it's "Ello You!!!"
Had the Donkey Kong board game, but had no idea the others existed! Thanks for the footage; I'll catch up on the others you've filmed soon :-)
I think the river is full of hungry piranhas that eat the frogs the moment they touch the water.
"Breathe underwater"
Frogs don't have gills, they cannot do this. Frogs are not fully amphibious creatures, being obligate water-dwellers as infants and becoming obligate air breathers as adults.
Frogs absorb Oxygen through their skin, they don't actually breathe underwater, but they can live underwater indefinitely.
Another extra rule the game should have: once a frog has landed on a fly and thus "eaten" it, the log should be turned over to the non-fly state. There were a lot of flies on the river by the end of this game!
"An excellent crossover."
Fight me Stuart.
Maybe the water is so polluted the frog suffocates in it?
Or the river flows so fast when the frog touches it, it just gets instantly vaporized.
Milton Bradley died in 1911, so you chaps'll have to go back a bit farther.
lol Larry's face during the opening is priceless XD
Solo many genius lines in this. And you successfully redesigned it at the end.
can't help but watch Larry fiddle with his shoe at the beginning of the video lol
There’s a bad late 70s - maybe early 80s movie called The Maze. And it involves a giant Frog. I am filled with useless knowledge! 😁🐸
Pop station gambling site? Now THAT'S something I'd waste 100's of dollars on over two months, then realize the worthlessness of the games and resent.
Frogger is a classic game. I've never played the board game version.
the tradition of looking at a boardgame with extreme confusion should never die.
more of this plz
i love seeing arcade games turned in to board games
You now wonder what other video game based board games are out there.
Shiro-Luna there's a Bioshock Infinite one, for some reason.
the bacon looks like the junk that floats in the canal near me lol
Stuart: Who's going to build a motorway in the middle of a swamp, that's a really bad idea isn't it?
Larry: A bit like Outrun where they build a motorway next to the sea, I can't think of anything bad happening there.
The Dutch: We're going to build an entire country in the swamp next to the sea.
Guru Larry moved twice on that one he rolled right before the intermission...
one of my favourite things that you do, video games adapted into obscure board games.
Always a blessing to see you two work together.
Thanks to this video, I just remembered we had this board game back in the eighties.
Great to see it being played, i have this in my collection but have never tried it out.
Looking forward to the next video in 2019, fellas!
Red and yellow frogs reminds me of an arcade game I used to play when I went to chuck e cheese as a kid.

Holy shit, I remember this! a d the Donkey Kong one too! this just made my day. thanks, boys!
to be honest just having these two chatting about random crap would be awesome to!
I figured that frogger dies when he jumps in the water because there's alligators in the water that want to eat him. that's why instead, he has to jump across their backs into the frog berths. and then sometimes a lady frog appears in one and he gets bonus points for mating with her. . .

I'm so glad for this! I love these board game videos.
It's true. We really did look out for Nutkins' missing finger. That's why the NES didn't sell well in the U.K. We had better things to do.
If the die falls off the table you're supposed to reroll, I thought this was a universal board game rule
this is quite competent if not too impressive for a boardgame, does the job even if too short.
Yay! More Ashen and Guru Larry board game shenanigans!
The movie "Frogs" was very deceptively marketed. Despite its name and its various promotional materials, it features no killer frogs. Other than an animated frog during the end credits, various other creatures do all the killing within the film.
Holy shit it wasn't until half way in I realized this wasn't on Ashen's channel.
"You mean one of those blogs where you complain about everything."
Hahah great.
Never thought they would make a board game version of frogger , I used to play the old table top arcade version of the game.
It was an otter that did done the deed.
Incidently another usless fact on missing fingers was that James Doohan ( scotty from TOS) lost part of his finger in a Bren gun accident and so they had to use hand double at points in the series.

Damn. We had this back in the 80s. I wish I had taken all those old board games...
I feel like, the logs and cars should move 1 square each, like same for the frog, roll the die thats how much you can move em
Adds more tactic thinking to block or ready to run over
Could have the car squares be two squares long so they move farther/faster
I think we did screw up the rules a bit in hindsight.

Ashens licked the box XD
He dies because it's the Hudson river. (snicker) Just substitute the River Thames across the pond.
I'm actually scared of frogs but I'll try and endure it for you Larry and Stewart.
noah2x4 Why? They are pretty cute and harmless.

At 15, Nutkins lost part of two fingers to an otter, named Edal while filming Ring of Bright Water
