Guru Larry and Ashens raid the attic once again to play another children's board game based on an 80's arcade game. This time it's the Nintendo classic Donkey Kong!

I remember this. When I was a kid in the US I got this from a Christmas trip to California. The difference was the Mario cards for "jump" and "hammer" had the Mario from the cabinet doing both actions. Those were good times :)

I think we got this in the mid 80's brand new as a present and the instructions were missing. I'm not sure we ever got the instructions but the barrells kept turning up round the house in various places for years.
I said we could use the computer game as a reference but my mum said that was a stupid idea. lol
i wonder now if it may have been re-gifted to us although the concept didn't exist back in those days.
I got the Pac-Man board game for 2021 christmas (by Buffalo games) that made me remember the time we got the Donkey Kong game lol

It's funny years ago I used to own Pac-Man, Qbert, And Popeye the boardgames. And they were supposed to be based off there Arcade games. Also I used to own a Donkey Kong Bank

***** It's been a long time. I believe the object was to get a few hearts, find the spinach, then drop a bucket on Bluto head And yes the bucket was a card. I forget but I think Bluto was a playable character.

The word sprew is what we called who worked in the plastic injection industry, is the excess plastic that runs along the channels when it is being injected into the tool. If it isn't automatically disconnected when it leaves the machine , then metal clippers are used to remove it.

It's the British charm of it. I wish I had it, but sadly all I have is the quirky charm of someone who has learned to cope with a social disorder, which isn't nearly as potent, but it's more charm than quite a few famous Americans have :)

I'm surprised no one at Milton Bradley decided to make a Mario Party board game. As it's already a board game, you just have to get a board and paper money printed and you could get in the shops quicker than you can say: "Do'h! I missed!"

actually those are runners, the sprue is the little raised part on the runner that indicates where the plastic was injected into the mold.
A tie after all of that?! I'm pretty sure the fair maiden could release herself while Donkey Kong was throwing the barrels by taking her hand away from her forehead to untie the rope around her waist!

Wow! Larry pushed down on Donkey Kong's arm and I got a free audiobook from Audible. That's an interesting mechanism. Very forward thinking for a game from the 80s.
Nope. If you had ever played the actual Donkey Kong video game, you would remember that when you jump over or destroy the barrels or fire, you get points for doing so. So, the point cards in this board game are the actions of jumping or using the hammer and you get the points on them for using them. Basically, if you don't have a point card to use when a barrel or fire gets to you, that is a strike against you; you lose points since there is no real "lives" system with the board game.
I used to have this board game. My mom bought it for me when it first came out.
