    Im glad someone else finally mentioned the lackluster prize pool from evo. No reason they should have over 5k entrants and only paying 12k especially when they cut it to top 6 for sponsors

      They keep wanting to expand but they should use that cash to up the prize pool.

      Yeah I know the event itself costs but that advertising was intense so there should be some more money going to placers.

    From the latest patch, the dev team has been not only doing great with the patches, but also way more open about it then before, we could use a more thorough explanation about it with actual frame data and hitboxes.
    Terry's uncanny valley ass face aside, the game is going on a great direction, and I can't wait to what Kobayan and you'll be cooking in the future!

    In evo all gief lost in Livestream, even itazan lost to lili and jamie😢
    And there are two types of Zangief, regular geif and kobayan geif which can consistently hit spd at frame 6 on wake up, and the difference is huge as cammy without od dp and cammy with od dp.

    Gief needs even more to help him vs Lily and Sim. I love your videos 🕹️

      funny, i have him as backup as well. he really dominates in most of the match ups that are bad for gief (except for maybe bison or guile)

    am i odd for not giving a huge f about tournament representation?
    all those chars listed in the unrepresented sections are characters i play vs all day down in the midcard, whereas i almost never see a deejay (of course, when i DO see a deejay, he's cracked and that's hard to learn from). this list just doesn't have a lot to do with how i experience the game. gief's gameplay feels pretty much just like what i was looking for before i even tried the game, and i have fun. i enjoy getting better, but i ain't on a mission to dominate the world. i'd probably resent all the bandwagoners if gief did become top tier.

    From what I remember a lot of the Giefs ran into Lilys. Even tho I think you could make a valid argument for Gief in the top 7-10 character range he still gets destroyed by Lily

    Not surprised that guile didn’t make it top 32. Guile has some nasty match ups like JP and Bison

    Season 2 gief is weird, he looks better but he has the same weakness than season 1 but with some brain dead stuff like my beloved knee. And kobayan robed the topanga league with jump cancel spd and everybody keeps trying to throw him... idk why!

    • @dobiqwolf
      @dobiqwolf Месяц назад

      He is weird is season 2 because while they buffed some aspects, more drive gauge damage and better combos (level 3), they did not address his issues.
      I would even say that the universal light attacks scaling change for season 2 hurt Gief the most so that was a huge nerf.
      He got no reversal beside level 3 (level 2 is too slow) and his normals are way too slow: going from 4F down light kick to 6F down light punch so no 5F move, all his mid attacks are 8F or slower beside 7F hellstab that is only used in combos, sweep is too slow with huge recovery, his overhead is not safe on block (unlike the rest of the cast) and only combo if it is a punish counter (rest of the cast can combo if drive rushed in addition to counter status).
      The extra range of the 10F standing medium kick was removed shortly after the update, it is a 10F move... some characters have faster heavy standing attacks...

      @@dobiqwolf The problem here is moreso that Gief is REALLY good....if you actually take the painstaking journey of actually learning how to play neutral with him. And his neutral game is also only really good if you are actually cracked at playing keepaway neutral. In a sense, he's more of a midrange character than close range and have an even higher skill floor than Chun or Guile, the 2 notorious hard AF character because their charge affecting their combo structure, while Gief is about doing consistent jump cancel SPD, delay SPD and whiff/block punish SPD to really leaning onto his great neutral game and force the opponent to actually play that neutral game with you. Which is kinda why he will probably be in the same type of tier here.

    • @dobiqwolf
      @dobiqwolf Месяц назад +1

      @@angquangnguyenthac2833 Thank you for your reply.
      You listed his strong point and highlighted his issue by the fact that you omitted it aka his lack of defensive options beside the upmost mastery of the game mechanics (read just parry). Top tiers in this game can corner carry like crazy, mix you to death in the corner and when on the defensive have way more tools to deal with that situation.
      No one beside Kobayan has been consistent with jump cancel SPD ( I can pull it in matches but with a 10% success rate so not worth it for me).
      From my observations, Snake eyez has godlike reads on his opponents (no other Gief players do that to his level), Kobayan is the most aggressive and Itabashi is the most technical; if a Gief player can achieve mastery of these 3 attributes (read, aggression, technicality) then Zangief will look like a top tier.
      And they will still lose to a good Lily (sorry could not resist)

      @angquangnguyenthac2833 Месяц назад

      @@dobiqwolf His lack of defensive option is a deliberate weakness that he shared with Ed and M.Bison due to his own incredibly strong neutral game. S2 meta focus moreso on good neutral game and thus his strength being emphasized while his weakness is less of a problem, which is the same thing for most of the top tier in the cast (Akuma being an absolute glass cannon, Cammy's low damage in exchange for Oki and good neutral, and Rashid for his bullshit lvl2 in exchange for stubby normals and low damage). Him being unpopular is a byproduct of S1 Gief being inconsistent instead of him not being top tier, which is what the problem also lies for the other grappler in the cast (Manon).
      However, he's NOT intermediate skill curve friendly since you can't rely on SPD mix to shit on newbies anymore, while also having a very difficult neutral game plan to get around of compare to some of the more straightforward character like Cammy, Akuma or M.Bison (which is basically Knee Press spamming) due to how slow he is (even if his normals hits you from Moscow to Memphis) and how unorthodox (albeit insane) his punishment game is with L-SPD being what it is. It's a pretty steep learning process tbh

    practicing for a bigger prize is not a bad idea......however saudi has a record of not paying players, remember the qudans incident......now, im not sure if these are the same guys....i just remember qudans not getting paid everytime i hear about a tournament in saudi
