Admittedly knew nothing of Terry prior to recent FF reveal. Then got overwhelmed with information and I’m excited for what he’s doing in fighting games.
I was terrified to use it as a title cause like, SEO and the algorithm has no idea what to do with that kind of word so hopefully it doesn't bite me in the butt
I’ll be honest, I went most of my life not knowing about Terry, but in these recent years it’s become very apparent to me that he’s genuinely one of the coolest mfs to ever do it, love this guy now
13:28 Cygames absolutely LOVE SNK and the faction Anila is a part of, the Twelve Divine Generals are all fun references to SNK characters. The SNK wiki actually has a page for GranBlue Fantasy that contains a lists of quite a few referenced characters as well.
"Satsui no Bogard". I like Terry mostly because he's not a brooding, moody teenager with out of controls powers and such, he isn't from a long lineage that allows him to spit fire and never finish high school. He likes to fight, but is not obsessed with being the strongest or whatever. He's positive, never a sour loser or winner. He smiles all the time. He's just cool like that.
Also, in Shadow Hearts: Covenant for the PS2, there's a side quest about one of your party members seeking out and dueling other wolves throughout the world. There's one named Kelly who's wearing a red trucker cap like Terry's. ruclips.net/video/ETeWwjBb-M8/видео.html
I started playing fighting games because of Terry. He was added to smash Bros and he looked like such a cool guy I started playing through the entire Fatal Fury series then I branched out into being a fan a fighting games in general. I cannot describe how excited I am to see Fatal Fury come back.
it extends to more than just fighting games. You know Rude from Final Fantasy VII? When you fight him in Remake, he’s got shockwaves, he’s got flip-kicks, he’ll toss you in the air just to power dunk ya, hes an action-rpg Bogard.
No wonder every time I looked at Axle through out the years, I couldn't help but think of Billy Cain, like "why does he look so familiar" he just has that Billy Cain vibe.
if I can get a bit personal here if it weren't for Terry getting into smash and watching Max's terry legacy during the build up to his release I would not have become the die hard FGC fan that I am today Terry in Smash CHANGED. MY. LIFE. and I can't thank him enough for it Thank you Terry and thank you SNK for making me appreciate the beauty of the Fighting game
I believe Fatal Fury was also the first fighting game that got adapted to other media. The anime trilogy (the 3rd being a theatrical release) finished before Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie came out. Terry was a trailblazer. His popularity alongside Mai's is why many are left scratching their heads about her being paired up w/ Andy instead.
Another place you might not expect a Terry Bogard reference: Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth has Rude, one of the Turks, use moves that are basically Power Wave and Triple Geyser.
people forget that he was originally the mascot of snk with his pet monkey, the original main character of street fighter 2 for those that know, and the original king of fighters that caused the fighting game genre to peak in japan and world wide. the original
i still remember being so shocked when Terry came to smash bros, I felt like I was the only in ANY of my friend groups who knew who he was. nobody i knew, not even my after school smash bros game club members knew who he was. Terry will ALWAYS be my GOAT
Just going to add that there was another Terry clone in a mid-90's fighting game, that being Roy Bromwell from Rival Schools. Roy is an American who has four of Terry's moves (Wave, Knuckle, Tackle, Geyser), but he differs in being a rich kid who likes American football
Ever since I played Fatal Fury with my dad on his old PS2 when I was in my early teens and I've never stopped loving Terry. I was so hyped when I saw him added to Super Smash Bros Ultimate
I love Kyo, him, Terry, Ryo are some of my mains. but I felt cheated that Kyo took Terrys spot back in capcom vs snk 1 and snk vs capcom. capcom took out Kyo and Ryu for CvS pro and 2. so I feel justice has been done.
I remember getting him in random when playing smash and the only thing I could think was "Huh, when was Terry first released and when Sol first released."
It's not just that Terry's a regular dude but a nice guy who gets along with just about everyone, encourages those he defeats to get stronger and even tries to reach out to the anti-social grumps of SNK like Iori and K'. If you really think about it, Terry was also the original Luke as far as how they view fighting and how it influences their actions. Plus, Terry could honestly pass off as Luke's big brother.
Terry has such a distinct, simple and catching design. My first SNK fighting game was King of Fighters 98 and he was also the first character I immediately selected because he just looked so cool. He has always been my main in every game that has him since then.
I'll still never forget the time I met a guy on the bus who looked exactly like Terry but if we worked in construction and he offered his seat to me and my brother.
Knowing Terry he probably showed up to KOF even during the years that the tournament was canonically skipped, the dude really does it just for the love of the sport.
Fun Fact: Besides Terry, his friends and Geese, one of the pixelated characters on the background of the stage of the original Guilty Gear is Leona Heidern.
I'm much more of a Ryu fan, but I have huge respect for SNK fighters. Terry and his brother Andy are cool characters, and so is Joe Higashi and Mai Shiranui. The Fatal Fury anime is pretty damn cool also. Capcom, SNK, Marvel , Nintendo, Namco, Bandai, Arc Sys, I hope all these companies continue collaborating
Kind of feel bad for Kyo. He was on all the promotional stuff even fighting against Ryu. Now thats all gone and he doesn't even touch the cover he used to be on.

You should make this type of video a series. Like videos explaining fighting games to casuals like me. I think it would get more people involved in the genre. Subscribed
Terry is my favorite fighting game character of all time. It’s been great seeing him appear in multiple different games and I love his moves, voice-lines, and his vibe in general. It’s because of him that I had the motivation to start my fgc journey just out of the love of the character.
Terry has been my favorite video game character ever since Fatal Fury 3. I'm so happy to see him in the spot light and I'll main him in any and every game he's in.
Terry has been one of my favorite video game characters since the 90s. Easily in my top-3, usually in position 2. He's just such a great character, and I've been so frustrated to see him so stagnant within the KOF games since he was never able to actually grow as a character or influence the story. Seeing the love he's getting (and finally having a game where his story can continue again) I've been stoked lately. I'm so happy to see him get the attention he so rightly deserves.

I really love all the threatment that Terry is getting. My man is a legend and SNK itself it's really tough (but they could do better with my boy Kyo 😔😔)
I say put Kyo and Iori in Tekken
Now all I’m gonna hear in my head when I think about Terry is *“SOL BADGUY!!!”*
Buster Wolf: Are you OK?
Heavy Mob Cemetery: You won't be okay!
I attribute all of this to Sakurai and it was my introduction to the character and it made me fall in love with him. Thank you Sakurai.
That sheep girl will never be Terry
*Sees her do a buster wolf and spits out my cereal*
Well attribute Terry to Sakurai, cause without Terry none of this smash nonsense woulda happened to begin with.
@@rooflemonger you make a very compelling point. 🤔
Without kof... Super smash won't excited @@rooflemonger
Terry is just a regular blonde American guy who lost his father at a young age, enjoys playing video games, basketball, eating junk food, is a shoto archetype fighter that loves to fight and has a star plaster on his outfit(s).
All of those traits sounds a lot like another certain MEMPHIS/ BEAST MODE BABY fighter that's in Street Fighter 6 and I'll be surprise if Terry was the inspiration for him lol.
Somebody pay Aleks Le to say buster Wolf in Luke's voice lol
@@Rockstingray790 I don't even think we might have to pay him, especially considering that Aleks' in general is currently trying to get all of the SF6 EN VAs on his stream, so Terry's EN VA is probably gonna be in there as well
Oh snap you are right! Luke has the military angle but takes that away and he's just Terry!
@@ZenPaladinI mean Luke is literally based on Terry.
Yeah they white wash terry
There's also Zinogre's moveset in the Monster Hunter games. The beast's moveset, along with the creature's full title of "Thunder Wolf Wyvern" are direct nods to Terry Bogard's moveset and his nickname "Garou Densetsu" or "The Legendary Hungry Wolf".
Thanks for this fantastic homage and the "Bogardisation" !
We love this guy for so many years... Legend.
its crazy you have viewers who's parents were shitting themselves in cribs as you were playing street fighter.
well I was a kid myself back then but yeah im an old bum basically lol
Admittedly knew nothing of Terry prior to recent FF reveal. Then got overwhelmed with information and I’m excited for what he’s doing in fighting games.
all this is TERRYfying
You get a like and a comment just for Bogardification.
I was terrified to use it as a title cause like, SEO and the algorithm has no idea what to do with that kind of word so hopefully it doesn't bite me in the butt
"It's all just Terry?"
"Always has been."
I’ll be honest, I went most of my life not knowing about Terry, but in these recent years it’s become very apparent to me that he’s genuinely one of the coolest mfs to ever do it, love this guy now
The only game he is still missing is Fortnite.
For now
It's not a matter of "if" but "when".
_Everything_ will become part of Fortnite, given enough time.
Earth 2 will become apart of Fortnite at some point at this rate 😭
@@ZephyrK_ Actually, considering Disney's $1.5 stake in Epic I think DC stuff might become less likely.
@@ZephyrK_ earth 2? Special low frequency edition?
So, Terry coming to SF6 is just his homecoming. He's going back to where it all began.
Terry's sheer charisma, positive vibe, humbleness and subtle branding cannot be overstated.
Never forget when the founders of America signed the Declaration of Terrypendence.
13:28 Cygames absolutely LOVE SNK and the faction Anila is a part of, the Twelve Divine Generals are all fun references to SNK characters. The SNK wiki actually has a page for GranBlue Fantasy that contains a lists of quite a few referenced characters as well.
Another thing about Terry from Smash, he had the longest presentation out of all the DLC characters before or after. Sakurai loves Terry that much.
Geese Howard curled up in a corner, screaming in confusion as the Terryverse continues to expand.
When people are more hyped for Terry than Mai, you know he's really popular.
Also, in Shadow Hearts: Covenant for the PS2, there's a side quest about one of your party members seeking out and dueling other wolves throughout the world. There's one named Kelly who's wearing a red trucker cap like Terry's.
ruclips.net/video/ETeWwjBb-M8/видео.html
it's insane how terry's design has so much personality in it while you see ryu is just bland as water.
The guy is just that cool. The hat is just so cool and his nickname "The Legendary Hungry Wolf" now that's badass.
I had to buy the Terry amiibo when I saw it. I could hear him calling to me. “ARE YOU OKAY?!”
I started playing fighting games because of Terry. He was added to smash Bros and he looked like such a cool guy I started playing through the entire Fatal Fury series then I branched out into being a fan a fighting games in general. I cannot describe how excited I am to see Fatal Fury come back.
The King of Fighters is awesome too.
@@AmazingSpider-Man I played 95, 98, 2000, 13, and 15 I played them alongside Fatal Fury
It's cool to hear this kind of story.
@@hermontarmand2404 this is Sakurai’s Vision
it extends to more than just fighting games. You know Rude from Final Fantasy VII? When you fight him in Remake, he’s got shockwaves, he’s got flip-kicks, he’ll toss you in the air just to power dunk ya, hes an action-rpg Bogard.
No wonder every time I looked at Axle through out the years, I couldn't help but think of Billy Cain, like "why does he look so familiar" he just has that Billy Cain vibe.
if I can get a bit personal here
if it weren't for Terry getting into smash and watching Max's terry legacy during the build up to his release
I would not have become the die hard FGC fan that I am today
Terry in Smash CHANGED. MY. LIFE. and I can't thank him enough for it
Thank you Terry and thank you SNK for making me appreciate the beauty of the Fighting game
all fighting games deserve to have somebody as cool as terry!
love your channel so keep up the great work my fellow grappler enjoyer.
Agreed, and thank you very much for the support!
The satsui no bogard sounds sick though.
I feel like Smash definitely boosted his popularity. He is way more known
“Hey, Terry! How’s my car?”
“BURNING!”
“…”
“Are you okay?…”
“Not really, Ter. Not great.•
I believe Fatal Fury was also the first fighting game that got adapted to other media. The anime trilogy (the 3rd being a theatrical release) finished before Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie came out. Terry was a trailblazer. His popularity alongside Mai's is why many are left scratching their heads about her being paired up w/ Andy instead.
It’s would be terry-fying see such rapid growth for the franchise for any competition
I remember ORDER SOL literally used to do a POWER GEYSER😂😂
Another place you might not expect a Terry Bogard reference: Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth has Rude, one of the Turks, use moves that are basically Power Wave and Triple Geyser.
😂 it's like that scene from Puss in Boots:
"You never knew it Puss, but I was always..
There" - Humpty Alexander Dumpty
people forget that he was originally the mascot of snk with his pet monkey, the original main character of street fighter 2 for those that know, and the original king of fighters that caused the fighting game genre to peak in japan and world wide. the original
i still remember being so shocked when Terry came to smash bros, I felt like I was the only in ANY of my friend groups who knew who he was. nobody i knew, not even my after school smash bros game club members knew who he was. Terry will ALWAYS be my GOAT
This made me realize how much I want Feather as DLC for Granblue. Hope we'll eventually get him just because he is Rock Howard.
Loved Terry in media ever since I saw him Fatal Fury The Motion Picture back in the 90's. Always a delight when he shows up.
You summed up a lot of reasons why Terry is my all time favorite character.
Just going to add that there was another Terry clone in a mid-90's fighting game, that being Roy Bromwell from Rival Schools. Roy is an American who has four of Terry's moves (Wave, Knuckle, Tackle, Geyser), but he differs in being a rich kid who likes American football
Terry is living in my walls. Help me. I just heard a muffled "are you okay?"
Ever since I played Fatal Fury with my dad on his old PS2 when I was in my early teens and I've never stopped loving Terry. I was so hyped when I saw him added to Super Smash Bros Ultimate
The ending makes me a bit sad for Kyo though, he's an iconic character in his own right
A bit but Kyo is also kinda a jerk and he dropped out of school so now he's got nothing else to rely on and its all his fault
He will have his time to shine again I'm sure.
@@rooflemonger Oh yeah? Did Terry go to school, hmm? Or was he _too cool_ to be in school?
I love Kyo, him, Terry, Ryo are some of my mains. but I felt cheated that Kyo took Terrys spot back in capcom vs snk 1 and snk vs capcom.
capcom took out Kyo and Ryu for CvS pro and 2.
so I feel justice has been done.
@@hermontarmand2404
Hope he likes being pitted against Mega Man…
I remember in my teeens, some of my buddies and I would wear leather weightlifting gloves and we called them our "Bogards".
Ah... My favorite fighting game character archetype: "Terry Bogard in all ways but physical"
As someone who played a lot of Anila I had no idea I was a secret Terry main!
Terry has such a distinct, simple and catching design. My first SNK fighting game was King of Fighters 98 and he was also the first character I immediately selected because he just looked so cool. He has always been my main in every game that has him since then.
And there was the Terry Bogard line of contraceptives.
Yeah that was a thing too, for a quick minute..then fizzled out real quick.
You forgot to mention Capcom's own homage to Terry in the form of Roy Bromwell from Rival Schools
Thanks for this video. I've never played a fighting game before, but ever since the MvC collection was announced, ive been watching fighting game RUclipsrs talk about the genre. You should make this type of video a series. Like videos explaining fighting games to casuals like me. I think it would get more people involved in the genre. Subscribed
I usually make vids like this where I feel its appropriate going into something big. My whole brand is basically helping people into the FGC lol
Terry is my favorite fighting game character of all time. It’s been great seeing him appear in multiple different games and I love his moves, voice-lines, and his vibe in general. It’s because of him that I had the motivation to start my fgc journey just out of the love of the character.
Damn I guess it all kind of came full circle with him back in Street Fighter. Definitely the best option for the first guest character in SF
You either die a Terry or live long enough to become a Bogard.
My first time seeing Terry was in smash! I learned a lot about him here, thank you! You're an awesome guy!
The announcement of Capcom Fighting Collection 2 has Terry on the front cover with Kyo nowhere to be found. The Kyo Erasure continues
