  • In this video, I head out to Triple Falls on Vancouver Island to make photographs with only one focal length. Unfortunately, the conditions are so good that I end up using my video camera, the Fujifilm X-S20, instead, since it has a focal length that is ideal for the waterfall.

    I’m off to Japan in July and I’m only taking the 16-35mm so I can keep it light. So that’ll be a challenge. Probably less so than a 55mm but I’m actually excited to see what I come back with.

  • @peterhoehsl

    The 55mm range is very still. Wide angle is more busy and more forgiving and lazy because it adds character of it's own. Capturing a scene with a 55mm lens is more transparent and truthful. When you do nail the composition with a 55 (which you do btw) I find it more compelling than anything with a wider angle. - Now to add to the challenge go for a square aspect ratio with that same lens. 🙂

    Beautiful images sir. The one-lens challenge fail is funny. I tried it myself in Amsterdam taking out a prime and hated it. So frustrating. Zooming with your feet can make you bump into people, fall into canals, off precipices, just doesn't seem like a thing my life-insurance providers want me to do. And I have much less fun. Kudos to those that do it though, just not my thing.

    As an APSC shooter, I found it interesting to see what you can achieve at 43mm in a situation where you would usually shoot at about 16mm (FF equiv). I don't own a superwide zoom so I am always trying to find compositions that are more 'zoomed in'.

    nice Adam.. i dont know how you are doing your focus stacking in PS.. because ive tried no end with my GFX and every one especially if there is movement is a complete fail. The software simply cannot do it.
    I used good dof with fairly high aperture and i take at least 4-5 shots so there is no chance of not getting the dof coverage in the image and no matter what there are still smudges etc.
    How did you you make a success of the first hassy shot with just 2 images and a 55mm lens!?!!?! I mean you shot one of those at a wider fstop meaning dof on that one was shallow. How did ps handle that!? OR You using different software now?
    Ive shot large format for a long while but cant afford it anymore, so without shifting the plane of focus, there is no way I can do what i like without stacking. Cambo systems are too expensive. Ive thought about getting the G adaptor for view camera, and going back to it but using the gfx, but i think im past using LF now. Wider lenses will not work with most of my compositions because i dont like those really wide/near and far field of views.. i like to compress the view, and I like my backgrounds really involved in the frame. Would appreciate if you can let me know thanks!

    • @QuietLightPhoto
      @QuietLightPhoto  3 месяца назад

      I’ll often do the stacks manually. You’re right if anything is moving then it doesn’t work very well. If you look carefully at the first images with the Hassy there are areas were I couldn’t get a good transition

    • @QuietLightPhoto

      @peterdclark 3 месяца назад +4

      If you plan a 2 shot blend to deal with foreground freezing (leaves/fast shutter) and then 2nd shot drag (falls/slow shutter), then you’d likely focus on leaves 1st as you’ll ignore the falls focus and then the opposite for the falls focus ignoring the foreground leaves. Just my .02
