Wonderful video, and for the record you were correct they are called playmats
Hey just heads up around 10:13 there was a kids face that wasn’t blurred
AMANDA PLEEEEEASE REVIEW AIR UP BOTTLE I JUST NEEEED TO KNOW THE TRUTH LOL😅
just someone living my DREAM
RIGHT ???
Like mc'scuse me I'd love to go
Same
Come out here! It’s cheap right now.
I spent 2 weeks in Japan back in 2019. It was a father-daughter trip and my dad was unaware he was going to get dragged into every single Pokemon center that we could find. It was absolutely magical for me though! Those stores are amazing
No Pokemon center haul? How could you!
Rip no filming
@@Zarugoza5969But we aren’t asking for the inside scoop on the centres, we wanna see a haul of what she got :(
@ghoultooth oh wait im dumb lol
Each Pokemon Center has a theme and representative pokemon which is why the Shibuya one has mewtwo front and center, and it focuses more on fashion and street wear, while, for example, the Sapporo one features alolan vulpix and has more snow themed decor. A tip for collectors: each store (usually) also has gacha machines outside that sell pins with the city name and some landmark etc with pikachu or their star pokemon. They make for small souvenirs that are easy to bring back. Also, the train station and airport stores all have station master/pilot pikachu plushies with their airport code eg Haneda = HND, Narita = NRT, so you can't just buy one, you gotta go around and get them all lol.
Glad you had fun while you were here!
I did not realize how much I want to visit a Pokemon Center until this video.😂 I remember being excited as a kid when Sears (I think, or JCPenney) had their little "Pokemon Center" mini area for merch.
Same 😅
Finally, the Swell that is Entertainment
For those looking for Mega Tokyo center, that's in top floor Sunshine City Ikebukuro. They also have a separate crayon shin-chan store and one piece store literally next door. Ikebukuro is one of the holy pilgrimage sites if you're a weeb, tons of anime and manga stores closeby to the mall
We went to those stores and I bought so much crap
one activity i think you will enjoy next time you’re in japan is collecting stamps from stations! also sometimes there’s anime events that have stamp rallies! you don’t even need to know the anime but it’s so much fun following the map and getting the stamps.
I think your review of the Sunshine City location probably would have been a bit different before lockdown! We lived in that neighborhood from 2019 to 2022, and basically watched the pokemon center eat up all of the other retail space on that floor before finally renovating the Pokemon center itself to flow better. Before all of that, it was pretty tight in there (and still can be tbh). The spread of the statues and whatnot outside of the actual store was gradual but it helps make it feel more special than the centers that are just one store in a mall imo.
ok! I wasn't crasy, my memory was that it was tight (in 2016)
Yeah when it first opened, it was just as cramped and crowded as the other stores. But it was a huge improvement from the old Hamamatsucho store.
I'm SO glad you got to see the Mega Tokyo one!!! When I went to Japan, I was staying at a hotel about a 5 minute walk from that mall. I was playing PokemonGO in my room one evening after getting back early, and I saw that one of the gyms said there was a Pokemon Center there, so I went over there on a whim. I had absolutely no idea what I was walking into, so discovering all the pokemon stores and statues and murals was genuinely better than Christmas. I cried when I saw the whimsicott statue. Definitely took more photos there than I took anywhere else on my trip. 100000000000/10 experience
Also, next time you go, you have to get a reservation for the Pokemon Cafe at the location in Nihonbashi in Tokyo!! The tickets are very competitive to get, but the experience is so worth it if you do! The food is adorable and quite good, there's a bunch of great photo spots there too, the merch is fantastic and exclusive to the cafes, and the performance part, while obviously geared towards kids, is very cute as well :)
In the Mega Center, they also have a small exhibit of the Pokemon concierge set with a life-size Psyduck photo op, I don't think it's always open, the first time I walked through I almost missed it but it is by far my favorite part! it's across from the check-out exit door of the center when it's not open it's not obvious that it's there.
I can't believe how much I LOVED Pokémon concierge, as a 40 year old. I've been into Pokémon since red/green/blue came out - but I thought that looked like it was aimed at kids far too young for me to really get into it, but it was so goddamn good. Like a warm hug. I can't wait for more.
Sunshine City was just one of my favourite malls in Tokyo!!
It had the biggest Pokémon Centre, Kiddy Land, Disney store and Sanrio store all together and it wasn’t even that busy (at least when i went)
It also had a starbucks on the roof which overlooked Ikebukuro
Pikachu Sweets had this really unique drink when I went! I'd ordered Polteageist tea and had no idea it came with a whole interactive part. You got to pour tea from a Polteageist replica. They give you a little glove so it doesn't steal your soul. 😆 I might've had no idea what I was supposed to do except the person before me ordered the same thing, so I copied what they did. It's also where I learned how cute its Japanese name is (Bulbapedia explains it better than I can).
I would generally recommend the Pokemon Cafe at least once, but the Polteageist thing is the closest experience to that. The Pokemon Cafe is pretty childish, but it's adorable.
This is the kind of fun niche video that is Swell Entertainment at her finest. Love it!
Pokemon is so niche
Nice to know the term “Sterile” to describe a location aesthetic is legitimized.
I wonder who it is and what “trend”/“marketing” they pitch to someone when this is the emotional response result
I think “minimalism” is the hot trendy way to market it
NOOOO LOL the SKYTREE mall location was the only one I went to in 2017 😭😭 super jealous! Awesome video, I definitely need to go back.
I recommend the biggest store the Pokemon Center DX near Tokyo Station( also has a full service Pokemon cafe), they have 3 exclusive Pikachu: Cherry Blossom Afro Pikachu, Kabuki Pikachu and Ninja Pikachu. Narita airport and Haneda have different style of pilot and flight attendant Pikachu too.
This is completely irrelevant, but Swell would make a great vampire. Like you know how in media vampires always seem to know about every historical event? Well Swell would be thst except it would just be random conventions taking place near major historical events
Anyway thats my swell fanfiction have a nice day
I feel so seen and validated by you putting Helioptile in the thumbnail of this video, thank you 💖💖💖 For the record Skytree in general (not just the Pokemon Center) is pretty awesome, Rayquaza smashing through the roof is also a great bonus 👌
i didn’t know they were so different!! this is SO COOL
I went to the Pokemon Center in Taipei and it was amazing. It was a bit small, and they actually had very few plushies outside of the Taipei exclusive stuff, but it was definitely worthwhile to go
I went to three of the Pokémon centres that you went to (shibuya, ikebukuro and tokyo station character street)…agree that the shibuya one is awesome…its cramped and was a super busy cos the Nintendo store is right next to it…but i did love the art focus. I did love the ikebukuro one though cos of all the extra spaces they had…i also loved the wall of pokemon store exclusive gachapon machines…and added bonus with all locations is that they are usually located in areas with stacks of character stores (eg. Jump shop, ghibli store etc)…and agreed that the tokyo station one is a small one - thankfully you had gone to the other ones! I am flying out of narita on my next trip, so I’m going to have a squizz at that store! Also going to try and go to the pokemon store in the jewel at changi airport as i havent been in there as yet.
What might hurt you more is the fact that there’s two Pokémon vending machines at Haneda airport that have the Pikachu pilot and flight attendant plushies 😭
I was also just in Japan and I made it my mission to get to one of the vending machines (the terminal 2 one is before security) before I left. I bought the flight attendant Pikachu and a luggage tag.
Awesome video! Planning to go to Japan and going to every pokemon center as well! Mind sharing tips about hitting every center?
Yes!!!! Been waiting for this type of video since you were in Japan
As someone who sells furniture and mattresses pls put a platform board under your mattress
Why?
Yeah it might be more helpful to mention why it's a good idea over your credentials for delivering this advice 😭
@@beckyginger3432I believe that its a quick and surefire way to grow mold.
@@beckyginger3432 afaik most beds are meant to have a box spring, if you have no box spring you need a platform to evenly distribute the weight and avoid breaking the beams
I went to Osaka's and Shibuya's. I had to fight myself not to buy 150 pokemon dolls...😅😂
I needed this video today
You are living THE DREAM!
I am sooo envious
I like Swell videos but LOVE Pokemon, thanks 🤣
Yes there were more decorations in the sunshine city mall, but when I went back in August, I thought the pokemon center was overhyped. It was SO packed with people and it was hard for me to find pokemon merch that wasn't plushies. I perfered the pokemon cafe next door and the outside area much better than the store itself
Oh geez we went there in August too! It was way overwhelming and my partner ended up having a bit of an anxiety attack because of the crowds and the *heat* so we were in, saw mostly plushies, then bounced,,,
@@AceCasinova yep same here. Went in, checked that box, and went out. I think i had a better time going to the nintendo store in NYC than the pokemon center
@@jokerrfox354 Yeah, iirc the NYC one definitely felt like there was more space (I got a Gengar shirt there lol)
I actually really liked the experience of using the Pokémon vending machine in the Haneda Airport- it was a fun way to cap off the trip~
More fun content like this please!!!! love your usual stuff but it's nice to see you actually enjoy some of the places you review LOL
i just discovered ur channel thru the miku expo vid and im so happy to see a vid abt my special interest yippee yippee
I'm going to Japan next month so this is perfect watching for my Pokemon addiction. Will definitely check out the Centers you recommended!
Pokemon Center DX is also fantastic! I went to a few of the same ones as you last October. They didn't have the pilot Pikachu at Narita when I went 😭
Swell Entertainment, Your videos always make me happy, so I subscribed!
I like most of your videos, even if the topic itself is not something I am particularly interested in, but I must say, this one feels like it was made for me.
I love pokémon, I wanna go to Japan just so I can visit all the pokémon centers, so like, this is exactly my jam.
I went to the center in Okinawa Japan. It was really cool
I could tell it was a medium size location but it has pretty much all the same features like the gaming area and it had toys and plushies
They also had a Pikachu in a floral Okinawan shirt which was really fun and a giant statue out front.
I’m going to Japan in two weeks and 100% planning to do this, thank you
Next time you go you should definitely go to the Pokemon Center DX location because it has a cool entrance and a Pokemon Cafe attached to it. Reservations for the cafe only open once a month (like 3 am California time) though and go pretty quick so you'd have to plan ahead.
The Henada Airport had Pikachu Pilot Plushies too that said the name of the airport. It wasn't in a store but in its own vending machine near the airport gates
I went to the one in Sunshine City a long time ago and it did not look like that lol. However that mall used to have a shonen jump theme park in it that was really cool. I managed to visit right before they closed.
I am surprised that you didn't go to the one that has the pokemon cafe. That location has a really cool interactive wall that shows you the pokedex entries for all the pokemon. And it's one of the newer locations, so it's quite big. The pokemon cafe also had really good food if you manage to get a reservation.
15:38 MY BOY IS HERE
You should definitely go to the DX one in Tokyo too. The cafe is there (but reservation is so hard to get) too and theres a snorlax display at the entrance
This hit the ancient reptillian part of my brain and activated something deep within me. Great video!!
I remember being so excited to go to a pokemon center when I first moved to Japan. I hasn't been told beforehand that it's literally just a shop. I was so disappointed lol
May I ask what you expected it to be? Pokemon centres are essentially doctors offices so I’m unsure what you could’ve expected besides a shop
This will make a great guide to plan my trip.
Any chance of a haul video of what you and Scoot bought?
Took a quick trip to Japan when I went to visit family abroad and visited Pokemon Center Skytree, the Station Pokemon Store, and Pokemon Center Tokyo DX. I was very fortunate to get last minute tickets to the Pokemon Cafe as well. While the merchandise is relatively similar across the stores, the theming and decor is just a marvel to look at and definitely a place where you can get lost taking pictures. Skytree's specialty mascot is a pikachu hugging the skytree and it's really cute! Tokyo DX's current specialty pikachus are modeled after kabuki, sakura, and ninjas. When I went DX was selling some pikachus dressed in somewhat more historical Japanese wear and my favorite plush that I brought home was the hakama wearing pikachu. Definitely go for the experience if you can! But plan accordingly for your wallet, haha.
I'm going in two weeks - thanks for the reviews!
i usually go to a pokemon center when I travel to the touristy cities and I don't buy much but I always enjoy walking around. Kyoto's is too small but I cherish my Kimono pikachu. Obviously you couldn't go to the one in Okinawa but that one has a kimono too and I think it's really neat. The Narita one is very very small! If you had gone during any of the holidays, to Osaka or Tokyo, you would have had to make a reservation time to shop because thats how they combat the crowds.
SO JELOUS, I love this
I live here and agree that your top two are truly premiere. The Shibuya and Ikebukuro ones are also surrounded by lots of other really interesting character shops that you might find interesting if you’re a Japanophile
Thanks for this swell video Swell!
Swell Entertainment, This made me laugh so hard, thanks for sharing!
I went back in 2019 and the first Pokemon store my friend and I found was the Tokyo Station one! I have the Tokyo Station Pikachu keychain plush from there! The second one we found was the one with the cafe, but we didn't eat there because you probably needed a reservation and we got there at like, 8 pm. I also went to the one in Kyoto which we thought was a lot closer to where our group was supposed to meet in an hour, but we ended up walking like 2 miles to the Pokemon Center. I think one of the specialty Pikachus from the Kyoto one are geisha Pikachu, I didn't get one though.
I am SO jealous. My fiancé went to the Nintendo Store that used to be a Pokémon Center in New York and he came home with a New York costume pikachu ❤
The DX store at Nihonbashi is walking distance from Tokyo Station. I’ve been to a fair amount. One of these days I’ll look at my records and count.
I always recommend people to go to the pokemon center in ikebukuro. Mainly it's in a giant mall with other stores like sanrio, ghibli, etc. and also it's less busy compared to the other pokemon centers In tokyo,.
The Helix ad was so dang cute 🐶
I did this in March! Exciting 😊
I've been to the Shibuya and the Okinawa Rycom Mall pokemon centers. Your Japan videos make me want to go back so badly 😢
Paused a million times to look at the merch and scan for my favourite pokemon. Post your haul if you can
I get to enjoy swell and my favorite nerd topic, great day
I also did a pokemon store tour, Skytree sucks you can skip it. You need to go to the one in Kyoto!! Very cute, barely busy and you're in Kyoto
The Mt. Fuji Pokemon center is also a bit on the smaller side (it's called a Pokemon Store than center) but yeah they do have a statue of Pikachu in Mt. Fuji. (Although I've never been able to get/see the plushie when I visit the outlet mall).
IIRC, the Mega Tokyo Pokémon Center in Ikebukuro at Sunshine City is the largest one in the world! It's my personal favorite since it never seems to be as crowded as the other big locations. The art display cases at Shibuya are cool, but it stunk when you were stuck waiting almost an hour in a queue looped in that area to get in to shop 😅
I trekked out to the Skytree one once, and I particularly enjoyed that one since there were two Rayquaza statues in there (one of which was shiny!). 😍
My friend just told me about the Pikachu Pilot plushie in Narita and coincidentally, my plane from the US is going there!!
i totally saw you at the shibuya store and was wondering when this video would come out lmao
The only Pokemon Center I've been to is in Singapore, I intentionally took a day in Singapore on my travel back home (Australia) so I could explore Changi Airport. BUT, I did buy the pilot Pikachu plush and he is adorable! Then when my friend went to Singapore she got me the flight attendant one. I also spent a stupid amount on an Arcanine plushie, I think he was around $70aud. The things you do for your favourite Pokemon.
Oh no now I gotta find a way to get to Japan, these are SO cute!!!!
I wish I could so what you got! These centers look so cool tho
I got to go to the one in Shibuya during my Japan trip- I really only went because my brother, who went with me, wanted to go (and I didn’t realize there was a DOPE ASS LOOKING Disney Store around the corner), but I ended up liking it more than him lmao
I have a legion of stickers still just waiting for future water bottles and laptop cases
The Mega Tokyo Pokémon Center at Sunshine City is my favorite out of the 6 Pokémon Centers I have visited. I can’t believe you didn’t go to the Pokémon Center Tokyo DX in Nihonbashi; it has the Pokémon Cafe right next door to it. When I went to the Pokémon Cafe in 2019, the food and drinks were delicious (and super cute!) The dish ware, cups, and cutlery were also quite adorable (and available for purchase, too!) I bought a Gengar glass cup after seeing how cool my Gengar smoothie looked. While I understand that it might not have been easy to get to (and that it required advanced reservations,) I do hope that you get a chance to check it out on your next trip to Japan! 😊
I didn't even know these existed and now I'm upset because I went to Tokyo in 2019 and never saw any of these and nobody had even mentioned them in any of the videos, sites, books I looked at for tips and attractions!! Guess I'll have to go back!
Whaaaat??! You went to Nagoya??! My hood!
Kanazawa has the coolest Pokémon center that isn’t Tokyo or anything. The kimono pikachu is special there.
You should of visited the Pokémon DX centers in Osaka and Tokyo. They have the Pokémon cafe's attached to them. I'm not sure about the Tokyo one but you can shop in the gift shop in the Osaka one.
That last footage was the footage of a man who loves Pokemon.
I was I Japan the same time you were! I went by myself, you lowkey inspired me to travel to places and get out in the world and do stuff! I'm like, 1 year younger than you idk man it's neat!
Amanda! If you ever go back to Japan, you should review one of the JRA horse racetracks! There's a pretty significant fan-friendly culture with Japanese racing (including women-only lounges), and I would so love to hear your opinion on it ❤
Theres also a special pikachu holding the skytree! Ahh I love Tokyo Skytree.
I don't mind watching you talk but I really wish we could see more footage it all looks so good and so cool! 😍😍😍
I was thinking the same. No side by side of the actual video footage, just her talking and looking at her phone?
swell entertainment AND pokémon? YAURR SIGN ME UP XX
But did you do the Pokemon kuji? Those are always so much fun to see. And I’ve heard SkyTree is amazing.
I've been to Skytree's pokecenter! IIRC it's pretty similar to what you described about Osaka's when I was there pre-lockdown.
Edit: We also have one right here in Singapore which is pretty small comparatively, but I still like taking the chance to visit every time I'm in the area! Bought my copy of Scarlet on launch day there too, and the process went smoothly despite the crowd.
Looks like you didn't get to go to the pokemon cafe. Don't blame you it's often at least a month in advance reservation. The food is hit and miss but it's one of the better themed cafés in terms of decoration, theme and merch
Omg some of the spots you went to brought back so many memories from my time in Tokyo🥲 can’t wait to revisit!!
I love japan. I went in november last year. It was so good. I cant wait to go again
HAUL PLEASEEEEE
Is your background supposed to look like a yearbook photo background?
Btw thank you for covering pokemon centers. Sky tree was my favorite when I went but shibuya is best if you want the Nintendo store too
thanks swell
I am so full of envy right now 😂
Kanazawa's Pokemon Center has an exclusive Pikachu wearing a kimono plushie.
Oh how I’ve missed hearing Americans pronounce Narita 😆
I should also make it a point to go to all the Pokémon centers
Nah REE tah!
OH-sa-ka
@@TarunoNafs KEY YOH TOE
I'm going to Japan in June, and I'm planning to go to as many Pokémon centers as I possibly can
i NEED the pikapilor omg what a PROFESSIONAL
Let’s see the haul!
Google is telling me I visited the Mega Tokyo location 6 years ago but absolutely no part of that looked familiar... okay I'ma have to go back, that settle it.
I’m so excited for this. Taylor Swift and this both on my birthday? Obsessed.
Dude Taylor’s new album is gonna ruin me. I’ve only listened to Fortnight so far and I can’t take the feels 😅
Ive been to the skytree center i dont think you missed much. Its not as cool as the Shibuya one and did feel a little cramped. But i went on a weekend and the entire mall was PACKED. The skytree does have the kirby cafe which is very much worth it. And a life sized Luffy in the shonen jump store.
