- I dragged my friend Skootish to Japan to watch cars go fast then to Awaji Island so we could zipline into Godzilla's mouth. Then we found even more to do on the island. Let's talk Godzilla Island, Dragon Quest Island, and Naruto and Boruto Island, all on Awaji.
NOTE! If you decide to go and take a taxi, definitely give the address of one of the parking lots to the park and not the park address itself it will save you a lot of confusion!

As a ambulatory wheelchair user I am so appreciative of you mentioning accessibility as it can be really hard to find good information especially for places like Japan.
I have (albeit very mild) cerebral palsy and lived in Japan for six years. There’s actually a lot of options but it depends on if you (or someone you know) speaks Japanese and also the area. Big to mid sized cities are great, but smaller cities that aren’t tourist spots can be difficult.

I realise it's too late now, but as someone who lived in Hyogo and visited Awaji when there wasn't any special events happening, there is a lot more to do outside of anime/gaming/general pop culture events and I think you would have really appreciated the traditional wooden puppets and puppet shows (known as Bunraku) that the island is famous for; it would have been all in Japanese, but the puppeteers breathe so much life into those performances that you could infer almost everything that was happening. Even as someone who's afraid of dolls and puppets, it was definitely worth seeing.
The island is also known for it's onions, and I can say from personal experience that it is honestly the sweetest vegetable you would have ever tasted- getting a whole roast onion on Awaji island is one of the best meals you can possibly get.
There are also whirlpools around the island that you can see, but the viewing windows are quite small due to the tides and you would have to take a boat ride to see them.
so what i'm hearing from this video is that Swell needs to make a zipline tier list.

The original 90s crayon shin-chan is not at all a kid cartoon. It's full of crass adult humor, to the point it gained a cult following with younger parents at the time (it portrayed somewhat relatable parenting sitiations)
I recommend you checkout some clips of the older series, they're wild
I get so hyped every time she posts a new video. Definitely one of my absolute all time content creators. Her laugh is pure gold and her comedic timing is mint.
As someone who was initially introduced to Japan mostly through Abroad in Japan and then through the Trash Taste guys and people in their wider circle and now watches a lot of Japan food content it was nice to see Swell going as like an honest to goodness tourist (as in not from there or living there, I know it’s still a work trip and not pure vacation) and see that kind of content. It’s just nice to see a different perspective and a person with different travel goals show us their experience!

My wife and I did Dragon Quest Island last year. Almost had heat stroke but that made it feel more like a real adventure lol we loved it!

i went to this island in 2022 and honestly, felt like it was a massive dissapointment, everysingle attraction was so expensive and seemed so short, godzilla was cool but even the base package was pretty damn expensive
Hey, this is going to be a nit pick as someone who lives on Awaji, but it bothers me when people hate the theme park and say the whole island is a disappointment. The theme park is totally separate from most of the island.

I went there.
Most of it is like a regular public park with a playground and green spaces. And they just happen to have a bunch of these big resin statues of the characters all over the place. I’m not sure I saw everything from the outside, but I think the part that you pay for is like an obstacle course for kids.
I’d like for you to be on Trash Taste with boys. I’m sure the hot takes & tangents would be fun

Casually listening to this while working on my Dragon Quest XI Jade cosplay, the Dragon Quest mention jumpscared me so hard! I LOVE getting Dragon Quest jumpscared, it happens more than I expect 😭 Super jealous, I would love to go to the island eventually >_< I’m glad you had fun even without any knowledge of the franchise!
They sure know how to do a good theme park in Japan. If you're ever in Kyoto, the TOEI park is really fun.

I went to Awaji Island in July! I wanted to do the zip line, but I’m pretty heavy and the posted weight limit was really low. I thought they only wanted children riding it. I didn’t even see any Japanese adults go on it. But I did the museum, and I got to see the movie before going in.
Godzilla was really the whole reason I went there though, so I didn’t pay for any other attractions. I just walked around the park looking at all the cool figures. It was SO frickin’ hot! I was flitting from vending machine to vending machine like a humming bird looking for more sweet sweet Matsuya nectar.
I thought about going into the Naruto park, but I didn’t know there was a whole game involved, and it was the most expensive attraction I looked into. But they had the ramen shop that all the Konoha ninjas eat at! I almost paid the entry fee just for the chance to eat at the ramen shop, but I thought better of it because I had already spent a bunch of money in Tokyo and Kyoto.
As I was on my way out, I also saw they had a Demon Slayer experience. I didn’t go because I don’t watch Demon Slayer, but people should know that it’s there.

We were at Awaji Island last October. We loved the Godzilla and Naruto park. In the godzilla shop you get a free bag with every 500 yen spent, we had 4 bags lol.
We did this as a day trip from Osaka. Would love to go back again.

It always shocks me how in North America people don't know/like Shin Chan o.o Back in the early 2000s in Spain everyone knew him and watched the show on TV (it was marketed as a kids show even though some of the stuff was not the best thing to show a 5-9 year old), so Spanish people on our 20s-30s would love that section of the park!

Went to Japan last year and fell in love with it. Did the Disney parks, Fuji-Q, and Universal Studios. Could not make it to Awaji, though.

Shin Chan was peak early 2000's humor and Laura Bailey did the American voice over for him. He's basically like an anime Dennis the Menace? Probably doesn't hold up well, but it was peak Adult Swim anime in the early 00's

My partner and I are actually PLANNING to go to do this in September (huge Big G fans here) and were wondering if they asked Skootish his weight before they did the zipline? We're "American" sized and I was worried we might have to diet ourself to death before the trip (thankfully we have until Fall). My inference is that access to the zipline _requires_ one to disclose their weight, and said weight cannot be in excess of 243 lbs. *could be 242lbs if "between" is literal

the dragon quest thing sounds super similar to the one piece theme park they had in the tokyo tower for awhile (don't know if that was permanent or not, probably not tho lol) overall this sounds like a great time and I wish I could go! Also the shin-chan with his pants down thing is cause that's something that character does all the time, it's like his thing

The only Dragon Quest I know is Builders 2. Honestly, loved it.
I don't know anything about Dragon Quest aswell, and my friend and I went to a Dragon Quest cafe in Japan because it looked fun. And it was great, amazing food design and it did taste good aswell (wasn't sure if that would be the case haha).
I've been to all 47 prefectures in Japan, but I've never been to Awaji Island. I really want to go to the stepped garden there.

I haven't been to Japan, but I want to go to Yokohama one day! I had to put a pause on my Japanese lessons for now, but my teacher kept insisting it was time for me to go and put my language skills to use! I want to get better on writing (grammar) and reading some harder material in Japanese before I go across the way, even though I know I can use translator apps and English will be available 🥰 I just need to gather the courage to speak my Japanese more! I'm always so shy about it! 😳 I feel like my accent is too childish 😭

I studied abroad in Japan (Nagasaki specially) last year and absolutely loved it. Japan is amazing. Winter was awful tho lmao. So wet 😵💫😵💫

I'm going to Japan next month and this place is on our itinerary. I wanted to go for naruto and my friend for godzilla. If you can still walk around the whole naruto area for pictures with bust the base ticket I might to that if the scavenger hunt was confusing lol
