I still find it interesting that IL Sturmovik puts American decals on the p-39 considering, the American pilots absolutely refused to fly the plane because the engine was in the rear. Which, is the reason - in the first place - why the plane ended up in Russia. But then again, Americans are not the brightest lightbulb in the house, now are they.

From what I remember about the p39, it wasn't so much that the engine was in the rear, from a balance standpoint to me it makes sense. AND She can slug it out closer in with her big 37mm, the main cavoite was the fact that she never got a good charger or if any that pretty much limited her affectively to lower altitudes. However the Russian pilots liked her mainly because they had nothing else that could HIT like she could! at the time.

@@eddrummerhands9448 not exactly - there were Yaks with 20 and 37mm cannons. Airacobra was loved because it had outstanding maneuverability and armoring in addition to it's firepower. Many dogfights on eastern front were on medium-low height, because russians used low flying IL-2 instead of classic bombers and in these conditions P-39 had maneuver and firepower advantage over german fighters. Many pilots refused to switch to other planes even when La-5/7 entered the game.

@@yurkofess3825 Man! i cant remember or can i bring up my comment from some time ago, however i may agree with you Because the later Lavochkin la5/7 with radial engine and great power seemed to be a dream to position that weaponing plaform to remain victorious in dogfight and attack/ bomber intercept.

@@eddrummerhands9448 I read about it long time ago from memoirs of one of the pilots. They really loved cobras and at some part regime even hushed up the the fact, that major soviet aces achieved most of their victories on foreign planes.

@@yurkofess3825 True, They had to do what they had to do! Me personally appreciate the engineering approach and philosophy of mig, yak, and Lav,, But when did Sukhoi enter the scene? now thats a different rabbit hole!
