10:45 Y'know, I'd argue this isn't actually a miss from Kojima though. The public perception is still Russia and the US are "enemies" but globalization and cooperation (economic and otherwise) would definitely speak to the opposite. The same goes for the US and China, perception is that we despise each other but that's very far from the truth.
He's right that the threat of nuclear war seems to be greatly reduced, at least in the traditional sense. Mutually Assured Destruction worked to keep the Cold war cold. These days, the greatest nuclear threat comes from actors who may not have anything to lose in a traditional MAD standoff.
Pretty sure everyone is referring to the Russian war in Ukraine here. Before that sure, whatever, but uh... Russia is not exactly liked by the world right now.
Yeah agreed, you could even say that Russia now is the puppet being controlled through a proxy war, by those same countries they incited proxy wars in to combat the US
I agree. I do think that what Kojima meant is that in 21st century US and Russia will be forced to interact economically and politically as opposed to isolation that existed before. And he wasn't wrong. That did happen on a large scale. However it's impossible to predict what some stupid people in the military and their mindless ambitions can lead to. If the war didn't break out mutual cooperation would persist as it did, no matter how many times politicians would mention that other major countires are a "threat".
She's saying she doubts Russia and America will still be enemies in the 21st century so the fact they are at all means she was wrong. The thing about that moment I find interning is the game came out in 2004 so Kojima knew she was wrong when he wrote that. It was an intentional choice for The Boss to be wrong as it calls into question here philosophy and her motives.
Smart man I am not, but Kojima’s ability to revolutionize game mechanics while putting wacky and emotional together to make a movie/game hybrid will always impress me, the man is a movie director born into the game world, and he will go down in history as such, a legendary game maker. DS might not be for everyone, but Kojima never just make “a game”, as purely a game it could be tedious with the traveling and janky vehicle control, but as a whole package I love it to bits, and now I can’t wait for the DS movie and DS2 to come out. I love Metal Gear, I love it so much.
Just saying when the boss says “some how I doubt it” is in reference to the War on terror where Russia actually allied with the us. Course Kojima can’t predict wars and the change of allies and enemies to a T
I wish I was old enough to fully understand MGS3 when I first watched my brother beat it. Cause even nowadays looking back that ending just hits and hurts.
This is been a long ride. Pomu's now making me want to replay these games myself, and MGS3 was my first Metal Gear game, so I hold it in a special place. I really do wish she plays Peace Walker!
People thinking Kojima had a bad take when in reality he’s still right when you ask yourself what constitutes a nation and whether or not all of Russia and the US want to be enemies to each with each other. Same with the majority of nations on this planet.
Those "people" missed the point. There is no such thing as an absolute timeless enemy and the US and Russian won't perceive each other as "enemies" forever
@@superheriber27 even in this modern era I don't think they especially the younger generation Russian and American even see each other as enemy, only the useless old conservatives who's stuck in the past And now it got worsen by them who starts a war
Man, We thought you'd catch a break after she finished Phantom Pain. Now the Remake of MSG3 changed things lmao. That scene o7 will hit harder in high def.
People seem to forget that as much as the game is set in 1964 its was released in 2004 and made in the 21st century. Kojima wrote that dialogue knowing it was wrong. It was an intentional decision for The Boss to be wrong. It makes it so her opinion isn't seen as fact, you have to decide for youself if you agree with the message underneath. If everything she said was right and she predicted every thing in the future her opinion would be basically fact, making the whole conflict less interesting.
Except for the fact she wasn't wrong, especially not by 2004. The Boss is the character portrayed to be the most enlightened in this series, it's a gross misunderstanding of both the series and geopolitics to think she was incorrect or meant to be incorrect.
To be more specific, the game in which Big Boss repeats the words of his mentor to Snake is Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, on the MSX. Not Metal Gear 1. It's been pretty fun watching Pomu play this series!
A lot of people are discussing how Russia and the US are actually not as hostile as they first seem, and all I can think of is Ocelot and Snake, they're openly hostile, but still secretly work together or at worst tolerate each other
The Boss's truth is quite similar to Younger Toguro from Yu Yu Hakuso and Uchiha Itachi from Naruto But most would overlook both Younger Toguro's and Itachi's despite the fact that they did it for a greater purpose, even at the cost of their own lives. AND THE TRUTH is only known by a select few that will never speak of it, and they will be branded as evil Oh yeah. Younger Toguro CHOSE to suffer for all eternity in Hell due to the guilt he felt after his students got m*rdered even when Koenma wanted to give him a light sentence after what he did And Itachi shouldered the burden of becoming a traitor despite the fact that he saved the whole world TWICE. (even hated by the fanbase withOUT analyzing the truth contextwise)
The battle between Snake and the Boss is an insanely awesome scene and the song makes it even better... But fuck if it isn't pointless and stupid at the same time.
I hope they won't make the mistake of bringing back the original VA's to the remake, and just bring some good actors, because the English voice acting is this game's weakest point, especially after you see the JP version.
